Deacon Laurence Gagnon

Ordained for the permanent diaconate in 1979. Assigned to St. Joseph Parish in West Warwick and was a teacher at its school 1990-2011. Gagnon was allowed to resign in 6/2011 after he was accused of inappropriately touching at least three 6th-grade boys between 2006 and 2011. The boys were his students. Arrested in 8/2011, charged with three counts of second degree child molestation. Confessed to fondling three boys. Released on bail. Removed from ministry. Pleaded no contest. Sentenced in 4/2013 to 10 years in prison, with one year to serve and the rest suspended with probation. Ordered to register as a Level 3 sex offender. Included on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused 7/1/2019. There were at least six accusers, all young boys. Gagnon died in 8/2021.
