Fr. Clement A. Hageman
Removed from ministry in the Diocese of Corpus Christi in 1939. Died 7/2/1975. Identified in 8/2005 by the Diocese of Gallup as abuser. There were at least 16 alleged victims in Winslow, AZ. At least one man settled with the Diocese in 2004. A 70-year-old man sued Gallup in 11/2010, alleging abuse by Hageman in the 1950s. Assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Holbrook 1942-1952 and Madre de Dios in Winslow 1965-1975. The suit also named the Diocese of Corpus Christi, claiming that there were allegations against Hageman there in the 1930s. The Gallup Diocese’s personnel file released in 4/2011 shows multiple settlements. Corpus Christi and Santa Fe were dismissed from the suit in 2012. New lawsuits were filed in 5/2013 and 6/2013. The Gallup Diocese filed for bankruptcy in 2013 after a lawsuit claiming 57 victims. The Diocese released names of 30 credibly accused priests and one lay teacher in 12/2014. Hageman’s name was included on Corpus Christi’s list 1/31/2019.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
