Fr. Kevin Lonergan

Ordained: 2014
Status: Convicted

Diocese: Diocese of Allentown PA

Charged with felony corruption of minors and misdemeanor indecent assault in 8/2018 after he was accused in 6/2018 of groping a 17-year-old girl and sending her nude photos of himself. Lonergan reportedly met the girl at St. Francis of Assisi in Allentown and asked other parishioners for her cell phone number. Pleaded guilty in 11/2019. Sentenced in 2/2020 to 1 to 2 years in state prison and to register as a sex offender for 15 years. Case sent to the Vatican. In 2016, prior to Lonergans’s transfer to St. Francis of Assisi, he was accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl. The girl’s family reportedly would not cooperate with an investigation. The diocese disputed that Lonergan was transferred to a new parish improperly, saying the County Children and Youth found the accusation to be unfounded. The D.A. and the diocese’s investigator both said the allegation was not “unfounded” but was “unsubstantiated” because there wasn’t a victim able to testify. Included on the diocese’s list of credibly accused in 12/2020.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
