Fr. Thomas W. Maloney
Accused in a 6/2008 civil lawsuit of abusing an 8-year-old altar boy 1995-1996. Assigned to Epiphany parish in Normal. The lawsuit says a woman reported abuse in 1995 or 1996 and a second woman came forward to say that Maloney had molested her as a child in the 1970s. Maloney retired in 9/2002 because of “health reasons.” He died 8/7/2009. Authorities found insufficient evidence to file criminal charges. The suit settled in 8/2013 for $1.35M.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
