Fr. Luis A. Bonilla Margarito
In a lawsuit filed in 8/10, parents of a 19-year-old girl alleged that Bonilla (high school chaplain) started a ‘relationship’ with her when she was a 17- or 18- year-old senior in 2008-09. The ‘relationship’ continued after the parents complained. He was removed from his parish in 11/09; sent to treatment. ‘Relationship’ continued while he was in treatment. The girl gave birth to his daughter in 7/10. He left therapy at some point and was living with the girl and baby. Diocese asked that he be laicized. Judge ruled case could proceed in 1/11.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
