Deacon. Removed from assignment at Church of the Holy Family in Albany in 8/10. Diocese deemed credible a single recent allegation that he had abused a minor in the early 1990s, before his training and ordination as a deacon. Denied the allegations. Also removed from position as chaplain at the state’s Greene Correctional Facility. Defrocked as Deacon in 2010. Convicted 8/14/14 of two counts of sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl in 2003. Sentenced to 5 years in prison 9/17/14, required to register as sex offender, and 10 years of post-release supervision. Garcia appealed his conviction in 2016 and was allowed to remain free pending the appeal. Indicted in 11/21 two felony counts of child sexual abuse for the abuse of two girls which occurred while awaiting the appeal. Sentenced extended in 5/22 to two additional 7-year terms.
