Ordained for the permanent diaconate in 2000. Assigned to Church of the Holy Family in Albany and as chaplain at Greene Correctional Facility. Removed in 8/2010 after a credible recent allegation that he had sexually abused a minor in the early 1990s, prior to his training and ordination as a deacon. Garcia denied the allegations. Defrocked in 2010. Convicted 8/14/2014 of two counts of the sexual abuse in 2003 of a 6-year-old girl. Sentenced 9/17/2014 to 5 years in prison and 10 years of post-release supervision. Required to register as a sex offender. Garcia appealed his conviction in 2016 and was allowed to remain free pending the outcome. He was indicted in 11/2021 on two felony counts of child sexual abuse; Garcia sexually abused two girls while he was awaiting the results of his appeal. His previous sentence was extended in 5/2022 to two additional 7-year terms.
