On Gallup diocese's list in 12/2018. Died 9/8/1997. Accused in 2009, along with Rev. Conran Runnebaum OFM, of abuse of a boy, age 8, in 1961 in NM. Diocese settled. In 2002 a man alleged publicly that he was raped by Boardway at age 16 in 1968. He said he told the Franciscans in 1985, and that they sent him $650. He contacted them again in 1988, with little response. In 1992 he contacted the Diocese of Lansing; there is no record of meeting. Boardway was sent by his order in the early 1990s to treatment. His accuser settled with the order in 1994 for $107.8K. Aso worked in TX, IN, IL, WI, NE. and NM. At least one other alleged victim. Boardway was murdered in 1997 while living in AZ. On the Lubbock diocese's list 1/31/19; noted to have worked there 1987 until 1989, when he was removed from ministry. On Las Cruces diocese's list 6/24/19, where he worked in 1989. Shown in the Lafayette, IN diocese per 1989 OCD. Left Order in 1991; laicized in 1994. Worked as a counselor at Alpine Counseling in Lafayette, IN. Two more suits filed in 2009. Judge dismissed the 2007 suit; Navajo Superior Court reinstated it in 9/11. All Plaintiffs settled in 7/12. Agreed never to work with or around minors. Fr. Mario Cimmarrusti

Minor seminary faculty member in OR and CA 1958-1970. Parish priest. Assigned 1970-1981 to a medical dispensary in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico in the Diocese of Ciudad Obregon. Treated at Servants of the Paraclete center 1981-1982. Admitted to mental health professionals to sexually abusing hundreds of boys. Accused in 1993 of abuse of boys at St. Anthony Minor seminary in Santa Barbara. Per the L.A. archdiocese, there were 12 accusers claiming abuse 1962-1969. One former St. Anthony's student said he reported attempted rape by Cimmarrusti to the seminary rector in 1965 and was expelled. Cimmarrusti is said to have required students to submit to his "examining" their genitalia for proper development, and hernia checks. He used embarrassment, humiliation and threats. His accusers describe violent spankings during which Cimmarrusti was clearly sexually aroused, after which he would pray for his victims while pressing their faces into his groin. They said he would then threaten them with eternal damnation. Named in a 2003 civil suit. Ccivil settlements in 3/2006. Last known address was San Damiano Retreat House in Danville CA. Personnel file released in 5/2012. Died 11/23/2013. On Oakland diocese's list in 2019. On the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019. The source cited is a statement by the alleged victim. Fr. da Silva died in 1967. Reportedly, most of the priests mentioned in the article are Franciscans. Added to the New Orleans archdiocese's list in 12/20. On the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22. Worked in Boston MA, Honduras, Guatemala, Trinidad, Israel and NY. Charged in 2002 with the sexual assault of as many as 7 altar boys 1968-1973. Left MA in 1973, which stopped the statute of limitations. The Franciscan order said that it settled a sexual misconduct claim against him "a decade ago" involving one of the men who filed criminal charges in 2002. Pleaded guilty in 2004 to assaulting 8 youths; sentenced to 8 years in prison and 10 years probation. Still in custody in 11/11. Omitted from 2011 Boston AD database.

On 5/28/16 the Arlington VA diocese quietly announced Downey's suspension during an investigation of sexual misconduct with a male minor, alleged to have occurred in 1990 'in another state.' Per the Official Catholic Directory, Downey was working at Quincy College in the Springfield IL diocese in 1990. Downey denied the allegation. He has worked in NY, IL, NJ, NC, and VA. Province announced on 4/24/17 that the claim was found to be credible. Downey removed permanently from all public ministries. On the Raleigh diocese's list in 10/18. From Ireland. Per Ames Daily Tribune of 10/29/41, he had just returned from China after spending 10 years in missions field. Same article refers to him as a member of the St. Columban's Mission Society of Omaha. A 1919 news article places him in St. Louis MO, and announces he was soon to leave for mission work in China. Member of Franciscan Servants of the Sacred Heart out of Omaha, NE per 2014 articles. A man who was an altar boy at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings, MN in the early 1950s filed a civil suit 7/2/14 alleging anal rape by Ferguson and referring to multiple other victims. Ferguson was at Guardian Angels 1951-65. Worked in MN, NY, NE, IA and Ireland. Died in the 1973 (apparently in Ireland). Included in 2/22 on the Columbans' U.S. Province list of credibly accused. It notes two allegations, of abuse 1957-58 and 1963-64.

Chicago-St. Louis Province Franciscan, in San Antonio 1981-87. Accused in a 1988 suit of abusing two boys. Church promised to investigate and asked parents to keep quiet. Sent to treatment. The boys' older brother said the priest abused him, too. Previously arrested for public indecency. Criminal charges dismissed. Civil suit settled in 7/88. In 2002 a man said he told Archbishop Flores in 1983 about seeing Fernandez naked in a swimming pool with two girls, ages 10 and 11. Active priest in 5/11 in Bogota, Colombia. One alleged victim who said Fernandez Baeza molested and raped him as a 5th-grader was convicted of rape and murder in 1995; he was executed in 2011 by the State of Texas. Fernandez Baeza was working in 2015 at Universidad de San Buenaventura in Cartagena, and posting "Sunday Reflections" on a Bogota church's website. On San Antonio archdiocese's list 1/31/19. It notes eight allegations. Removed in 2015 in Colombia by the Franciscans, case referred to Vatican.

Deacon Angel Garcia

Also removed from position as chaplain at the state's Greene Correctional Facility. Defrocked as Deacon in 2010. Convicted 8/14/14 of two counts of sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl in 2003. Sentenced to 5 years in prison 9/17/14, required to register as sex offender, and 10 years of post-release supervision. Garcia appealed his conviction in 2016 and was allowed to remain free pending the appeal. Indicted in 11/21 two felony counts of child sexual abuse for the abuse of two girls which occurred while awaiting the appeal. Sentenced extended in 5/22 to two additional 7-year terms.

Left the Franciscans in 1986. Ordained for the priesthood, worked in the Diocese of Naval, Philippines for 37 years. Would return to Cincinnati in the summers. Arrested in Naval, Biliran Province, Philippines in 12/18. Accused of abuse of 10 boys there, as young as age 7; may be at least 50 victims. By 11/19 around 20 had come forward. Some lived with him and were allegedly abused during baths with Hendricks. The Cincinnati archdiocese denies authority over Hendricks, but says it did raise money for his Philippines mission. Died 1/26/22, while on trial for the sexual abuse of two boys, who were brothers. Included on the St. John the Baptist Province Franciscans List in 6/22.

First indexed in1955 US.Official Catholic Directory, so may have arrived in U.S. (Buffalo NY) 1954. Had radio ministry, "Comfort My People" on Christian Broadcasting Network per 1979 news article. Accused publicly in 2015 of sex abuse of boy for five years, beginning 1973 when boy was age 10. Abuse said to have included oral sex, masturbation and attempted intercourse. Accuser said Hennessy was father figure who stepped in to help his single mom with her three children. Reportedly lawsuit v Buffalo diocese rejected due to SOL and man rejected 50k settlement offer. Accuser asked Pope Francis to investigate his case. Hennessy died 5/9/83 in Buffalo. Suit filed 8/19 under Child Victims Act. Accuser said a Franciscan brother would force her to strip in front of him and he would fondle her repeatedly. Suit also says another Franciscan, possibly Henriques, was also present. Henriques left the priesthood in the 1960s and has since died. On the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/19. It notes allegations received in 1949 and 2005 of the sexual abuse of a minor in 1949 and 1963. Henriques was assigned in 1949 to St. John's in Laveen, AZ. Accused along with Rev. Charles Newman of sexually abusing a teen boy in the mid-1990s. Newman was principal of Archbishop Ryan High School and Howitz was a maintenance worker at the school. Newman allegedly plied the boy with drugs and alcohol Allegations against both men reportedly deemed credible by the archdiocese and Franciscans. Both ordered to live a life of prayer and penance. The boy died of a drug overdose at age 28 in 2006.

Br. Dennis Huff

A man filed a complaint with Santa Fe police in 1/97 alleging rape and abuse by Huff on multiple occasions in the early 1980s at St. Catherine Indian School. He also alleged abuse by Fr. Christopher Kerr. Huff left the order some time before 1997. Accused in a 2014 lawsuit of rape in 1976 of a 15-year-old boy living in St. Catherine School's dorm. Included on Santa Fe archdiocese list of accused 9/12/17. Worked at a behavioral health center serving mostly native Americans beginning 1992; "retired" in 9/17 after the center received an anonymous letter about Huff's past. It notes an allegation reported in 1992 of the sexual abuse of a minor 1975-1976. Lopez died in 2004. In 1/2014 a 63-year-old man reported to the diocese that when he was an 11- to 14-year-old altar boy at St. Pamphilus in the mid-1960s McMahon would invite the altar boys, one at a time, to his friary room to wrestle. He said McMahon would get on top of him, always with an erection. McMahon Died 2/8/2018 in Albany, NY at age 83.

The archdiocese refused any assistance to the young woman and did not tell Mikulich (then age 87) of the allegations. He died in 2000 at age 101. Accused publicly in 4/19 of sexually abusing a boy 1972-79 while assigned to Holy Assumption School in Roebling, NJ. Allegedly began raping plaintiff when he was a 7-year-old altar boy. He filed a report with the NJ State Police in 1996; Munn admitted to abusing the boy as well as over a dozen others, but the SOL wouldn't allow prosecution. The diocese confirmed in 2019 that in 1998 and 2007 it received multiple allegations against Munn from his time at Holy Assumption. Munn left the Franciscans at some point. In 4/19 he was still living in DeWitt, MI. Reportedly known in DeWitt as having been a firefighter and active with the Knights of Columbus. Civil lawsuit filed in 12/19 under a new NJ law by the man victimized as a boy 1972-79. A second man filed suit in early 2020 alleging abuse in NJ beginning at age 10.

Gallagher, who also alerted authorities about Palimattom, claimed demotion/poor treatment by diocese as a result in 1/16. Diocese refuted claim. Gallagher filed suit v diocese 1/11/17. Appeals court dismissed the suit 5/18, saying court cannot get involved in church administrative issues.

Accused along with another friar in a 2004 civil suit of abusing an elementary school boy 1974-78. Salwach was a Franciscan brother assigned to a New Lenox, IL parish at the time of the alleged abuse. After ordination he worked in Quincy IL, Galena AK, Parma and Cleveland OH, Joliet IL, San Antonio TX and Ruston LA. He was placed on leave in 5/03. The lawsuit settled. No criminal charges were filed. Still shown as an active priest per Catholic Times 5/10/09. Reportedly in 11/11, Salwach had recently been assigned to work at LaVerna Friary in a residential neighborhood in St. Louis, MO.

Worked in Navajo Nation over 20 years as bus driver, helper of poor and children's roller skate teacher. Trained as Maryknoll; no final vows; concerns about vocation. Treated by Servants of the Paraclete in Jemez Springs NM; admitted to Franciscans while in treatment there; solemn vows 8/16/59. Worked at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Fort Defiance AZ and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Kayenta AZ. Later lived at Curia Juan Diego/OFM Friary in Albuquerque, per 2005-12 Directory. Worked at St. Felix Pantry in Rio Rancho NM. Dementia in last years; lived at South Valley Care Center in Albuquerque. Died 1/16/12. On diocesan list as of 4/28/17. Included on the St. John the Baptist Province Franciscans list.

Accused of molesting several girls when he was a "lay member" of Franciscans serving as a missionary on St. Michael Island in 1960s-'70s. He denied abuse but admitted being nude in front of girls occasionally. Sued by at least four of the girls in 2005. Claims included in 11/07 settlement with Jesuits. Plaintiffs filed 43 suits 1/09 alleging Jesuits had knowledge of abusive priests and did nothing. At least two named Smario. More claims filed 2010. In 3/11, 20 settled as part of massive settlement. Per Santa Barbara Province Franciscans on their list 5/31/19, Smario was a lay person, not a Franciscan friar.

Pled no contest to computer pornography in 12/01; judge allowed him to continue running a group home for disabled adult males. Ordered to leave the home in 3/02 by social services. Also worked in Boston archdiocese, at Perkins School for the Blind, and in NH. Briefly had privileges in Miami after Franciscans withdrew his privileges. Included on the Marianists 6/24/20 list of accused. Noted to be deceased.

Soto, a Franciscan brother in training, was accused in 1995 of molesting three boys at St. Anthony's Church in Cicero. Soto told another friar who alerted authorities. Soto was arrested in 6/95. The LINKUP (survivors group) later reported that that Soto may have also abused youths in Texas.

The Franciscan Province of St. John the Baptist acknowledged receiving a complaint about Thompson in 1967 and said that he was removed from ministry. Included on their list. Per plaintiff's attorney, Van Handel told his superiors in the 1970s that he was attracted to young boys.

A 2/03 civil RICO suit alleged that Villalobos abused a boy, ages 12-15, in 1980-83, while at at St. Mary's in Stockton, and that then-Bishop Mahony and other diocese officials covered it up. Another suit filed 11/03 alleged abuse at the same parish. Shortly before died 12/31/85, Villalobos also allegedly attempted to abuse the plaintiff's brother. In 6/04 a man reported to the Manchester NH diocese that Walsh fondled then masturbated him for 3-4 months between 1987-1988. Walsh was assigned to St. Thomas Aquinas in Derry at the time. Walsh denied these allegations.

The Jackson diocese announced 7/29/18 a credible allegation that West had sexually abused a minor while working at St. Francis of Assisi in Greenwood; teacher and principal there 6/93-11/98. On diocese's list 3/19/19. Abuse reported in 1998 and 2018. Accused of abuse of two brothers and their cousins starting when they were ages 9 and 10 and St. Francis students in the mid- to late 1990s. The abuse reportedly included rapes and beatings. One of the three also alleged abuse by Bro. Donald Lucas, OFM. One boy told church and police in 1998; West was sent for a psych evaluation. He taught 4th and 5th grades at St. John's in Little Chute, WI 1999-2010. Left Order in 2002. Franciscans settled with two accusers for $15K.The alleged victims filed a federal suit in 11/19 claiming the order pressured them into a small settlement requiring their silence. Indicted in 8/20 in MS. Pleaded not guilty. Charged also in WI. Suit in 6/21 claiming racial discrimination. Convicted 4/13/22. Sentenced to 30 years on one count and an additional 15 years on a second count.

Accused in 2009 of a 5-year affair in IL with a woman beginning in the early 1980s. Another woman came forward during that time to allege a long relationship with him when she was in high school. Order sent him to Paraclete facility for treatment for 7 months. The first woman gave birth to his son after his return. She received support from the Franciscans over the years, and made the matter public in 10/09 because the 22-year-old son had terminal cancer and she also had cancer. Diocese placed WIllenborg on leave pending investigation. Son died in 12/09. On the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese's list updated 4/1/19. Worked in New Orleans 1988-93.
