Fr. John N. Paddack

Ordained: 1984
Status: Sued

Diocese: Archdiocese of New York NY

Monsignor. Teacher, guidance counselor, parish priest. Accused publicly in 3/2019 by one of five men who said Paddack sexually abused them as boys in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island, 1988-2002. The man said he was a Cardinal Hayes High School student in 1996 when Paddack molested him during counseling. Another accuser had come forward in 2012; the Archdiocese’s Lay Review Board deemed his claims “unsubstantiated.” Paddack denied the allegations and remained in ministry. An eighth accuser spoke out in 6/2019. Paddack resigned from his parish 7/2/2019. A lawsuit  was filed in 7/2019 by a man claiming the Church covered up Paddack and Rev. Donald Timone’s histories of abusing and kept them in ministry. A suit filed in 8/2019 claims abuse of a 16-year-old male student of St. Joseph by-the Sea High School on Staten Island 2001-2002. Four new suits in 7/2020 claim abuse of teenage boys 1987-1990, 1990-1993, 1995-1997, 2002-2003. Two more suits were filed in 5/2021, claiming abuse 1987-1989 and 1996-1998. Another new suit was filed in 5/2021.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
