Seminarian Juan Jose Gonzalez Rios

Status: Charges dropped

Diocese: Archdiocese of Portland OR

From Jalisco, Mexico. Seminary student at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon until he was dismissed in 2003. Warrant was issued in 2005 for his arrest on felony charges of encouraging child sex abuse (child pornography). When arrested in 3/2008, he was working at St. Peter Retreat Center in the Yakima diocese. The Yakima bishop knew of the earlier allegation; thought it was an isolated incident and duties did not involve children. Gonzalez claimed he was abused by a priest before entering seminary. Criminal charges dropped in 5/2009.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
