Fr. Scott James Kallal

Member of the Apostles of the Interior Life. Assistant at Holy Spirit in Overland Park when suspended 7/2017 after two people complained of inappropriate conduct by Kallal, one toward an 11-year-old girl. Per the girl’s father, the priest tickled her and touched her breast at a St. Patrick’s gathering in the summer of 2015. Kallal denied “moral misconduct or malicious intent.” He was arrested in MD 7/24/2017, where he had been sent for treatment, and charged with two felony counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He pleaded not guilty. The judge ordered a trial. Kallal’s name was included on the Archdiocese’s list 1/25/2019. The trial in 9/2019 ended in a hung jury. Kallal was to remain on leave of absence. In 9/2021 the District Attorney’s Office dismissed the case after determining that a retrial was not in the best interest of the alleged victim. Kallal was to remain on leave pending an investigation by the Archdiocese. In 10/2026 the Archdiocese announced that the Vatican had issued a penal precept for Kallal; his ministry would be restricted. A safety plan was to be established whereby Kallal was not to be assigned to ministry with minors or women. He was assigned to work as a groundskeeper.
