Four women learned they were sexually assaulted by the same member of an Oklahoma church, but their reports to the pastor never made it to authorities, according to a lawsuit.

Charles Sulivant, a 92-year-old and former member of Shawnee First Church of the Nazarene, was charged in October 2024 with lewd and indecent acts to a child, but the church pastor had known about the man’s conduct for years, the lawsuit and KOTV said.

Now, the four Jane Doe plaintiffs are suing the Shawnee church and The Church of the Nazarene for the accused cover up. They’re seeking at least $75,000 in damages, according to court documents filed March 17.

The local church and the Church of the Nazarene did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment April 15.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A priest has been reinstated to Chicago churches after being accused of sexually abusing a minor.

In January, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced that Father Matthew Foley was accused of sexual abuse against a minor while he was assigned to St. Agnes Parish in Lawndale approximately 30 years ago.

On Monday, the Archdiocese said that after an independent investigation they determined that there was no sexual misconduct.

“After receiving the results of the thorough investigation, the IRB today determined that there is no reasonable cause to believe Father Foley sexually abused the person making the accusation. In addition, the IRB recommended that Father Foley be reinstated to ministry and that the file be closed. I have accepted their recommendation effectively immediately,” Cardinal Blase J. Cupich said in a statement.

Chicago priest Fr. Matthew Foley is being reinstated after he was cleared of allegations he had sexually abused a child 30 years ago, the archdiocese said.

Cardinal Blase Cupich said both police and Chicago Archdiocese’s Independent Review Board investigation allegations of sexual abuse of a minor from when he was assigned to St. Agatha Parish in North Lawndale.

Cupich said the IRB determined there was no reasonable cause to believe Fr. Foley sexually abused the person making the accusation, and recommended he be reinstated to ministry and the file be closed.

Claim alleges teacher Raymond Clavin sexually assaulted and raped Grade 7 student at all-boys school in 1987

A retired Catholic school teacher with a record of sexually abusing boys at two Vancouver-area private schools is facing fresh allegations related to his time teaching at St. George’s School for boys almost 40 years ago.

A notice of civil claim filed April 7 in B.C. Supreme Court alleges Raymond Thomas Clavin groomed, sexually assaulted and raped plaintiff N.C. during the 1986-87 school year when N.C. was a Grade 7 student at St. George’s.

The claim also names St. George’s as a defendant, saying the school “knew or ought to have known of the foreseeable risk of child sexual grooming and abuse that Clavin posed to the plaintiff.”

The Archdiocese of Santa Fe (ASF) Institutional Abuse Collection was created as a part of the 2022 settlement agreement between the ASF and survivors of clerical sexual abuse. The final settlement included approximately 400 claims of abuse taking place between the 1950s and the 2010s. Documents include deposition transcripts, personnel files, meeting minutes, and proofs of claim. These records are online and available to the public with redactions to protect the privacy of claimants and their families.

The collection is separated into two main series. Series 1, Archdiocese of Santa Fe Abuse Records, contains all the documents provided by the ASF for inclusion within the archives. Series 2, Hall and Monagle LLC Records, contains the documents provided by one of the law firms which represented claimants for the Archdiocese’s bankruptcy and settlement case.

Further records are being processed and will be added to the collection on an ongoing basis.

New complaints filed this week allege that over the course of decades, staff at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson “repeatedly ignored credible reports of sexual abuse,” allowed known abusers to have continued access to students and failed to report misconduct to authorities.

The Calvert Hall Lawyers Working Group, a coalition of attorneys representing survivors of alleged sexual abuse at the private, all-boys Catholicschool, said the survivors coming forward Monday “are breaking decades of silence” and “deserve a full, fair chance at justice.”

The group also called on Gov. Wes Moore to veto changes to the Child Victims Act, which would sharply limit how much money survivors of abuse can win in court.

As of Monday afternoon, though, a spokesperson for Moore said the governor intends to sign off on the changes.

The argument that parishes should not contribute to clergy abuse settlements is a convenient way to absolve the laity of responsibility. It ignores a fundamental truth: The Catholic Church runs on the financial support of its members. As long as Catholics continue tithing without demanding real reform, they are enabling an institution that has protected predators and fought survivors for decades.

The Church is not a collection of independent parishes; it is a hierarchical system where every priest, bishop and layperson operates under its authority. Abuse happened in churches, schools and confessionals — places where Catholics worshipped, donated and trusted Church leaders to protect them. That trust was betrayed.

Three separate complaints were made about one friar

Two friars were suspended last year following “substantiated” allegations of sexual abuse against vulnerable adults.

The details were announced by the Safeguarding Commission, which was set up by the Maltese Church to combat abuse.

In the first case, there were three separate complaints of sexual abuse against a friar, all of which dated back more than 10 years ago. The case was not referred to the authorities because the victims declined to file a police report despite an offer by the Safeguarding Commission to accompany them.

The second case was referred to the police but the victim did not want to proceed with the police investigation.

The beloved former pastor of a Catholic church in Arlington Heights has been cleared of sexual abuse allegations, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced Saturday.

In a letter addressed to St. Gail Parish in Chicago, Cardinal Blase Cupich writes that the archdiocese’s Independent Review Board found “no reasonable cause” to believe the Rev. Matthew Foley sexually abused his accuser.

“In addition, the IRB recommended that Father Foley be reinstated to ministry and that the file be closed,” Cupich wrote in the letter. “I have accepted their recommendation effective immediately.”

Catholic nuns in India are conducting a series of training programs as part of enabling women religious to address challenges posed by sexual abuse, poor mental health and suicidal tendencies.  

The Conference of Religious Women India, or CRWI, concluded its 10th training workshop April 1-5 in the western state of Goa. About 50 nuns from across India attended the program, which is conducted in collaboration with the church-run Christ University in Bangalore.

“We have begun strengthening the resilience of the religious sisters to face challenges at work and to foster community support for mental well-being,” said Sr. Molly Mathew, who leads the project.

The Catholic bishop responsible for Jersey has apologised after a former island priest was found guilty of three counts of gross indecency with a child.

On Wednesday, Jersey’s Royal Court found Piotr Antoni Glas guilty of the offences, which occurred between 2004 and 2007 while he was a priest in the island.

The Bishop of Portsmouth, the Right Reverend Philip Egan, said he wanted to express “deep sorrow” and “profound apologies” for the abuse and pain the victim suffered.

Glas is due to be sentenced on 2 June.

Bishop Egan said the victim would have carried pain “over the course of their life” as a consequence of the priest’s “grave offences”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their family,” he said.

Jebaraj recently petitioned the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail. While denying the accusations, he asserted that they were fabricated by his estranged wife during their ongoing divorce proceedings.

John Jebaraj, a pastor from a church based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was arrested in Munnar, Kerala, on Saturday evening for allegedly sexually assaulting two minors.

Jebaraj, who is the pastor of Kings Generation Church in Coimbatore, was produced in court today and remanded to judicial custody.

The 37-year-old Jebaraj, a popular figure on social media with lakhs of followers across platforms, had been evading arrest for months.

In a conversation with the press earlier this week, the Venezuelan Jesuit superior general, Fr Arturo Sosa, acknowledged that his order had been “blind” to abuses committed by Rupnik, the renowned artist and Catholic priest expelled from the Society nearly two years ago.

Yesterday, Fox13 reporter Ben Winslow reported on a court ruling in the church’s lawsuit against its insurers demanding that they reimburse it for a portion of the church’s settlement with a number of victims of sexual abuse in West Virginia.[fn1]

Paul Scouten, the office manager at St. Joseph since 2016, was arrested on April 10. He’s accused of having CSAM on his phone and work computer, the diocese said.

An employee at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tontitown is currently on leave amid an investigation after child sexual abuse material (CSAM) was allegedly found in his possession, according to the Diocese of Little Rock.

The diocese, which oversees dozens of parishes across Arkansas, shared in a letter on April 10 that Paul Scouten, the office manager at St. Joseph, was arrested.

The letter said Scouten had been employed in the role since August 2016, adding that he’s currently on administrative leave and barred from the church’s grounds until a decision is made about his employment.

Washington lawmakers passed a bill Thursday that will end clergy-penitent privilege for cases of child abuse, sending the legislation to the governor’s desk after a three-year effort by its sponsor.

The Washington House passed the mandatory clergy reporting bill 64 to 31, with three excused on April 11.

Once signed by the governor, Washington will be removed from the list of five states that do not list clergy as mandated reporters.

Senate Bill 5375 was introduced by Sen. Noel Frame, D-Seattle — her third attempt to pass the legislation.

At the time of publishing, no statement has been made from her office or the Washington Senate Democrats.

Frame said in a previous press release too many children have been victims of child abuse. This motivated her three years in a row to introduce legislation to help end this abuse.

The Bishop of Portsmouth has offered a public apology following the conviction of a former Jersey priest for child abuse.

Piotr Antoni Glas was found guilty of three counts of gross indecency with a child, committed between 2004 and 2007 while serving on the island, as reported by the BBC.

In a statement, Bishop Philip Egan expressed “deep sorrow” and “profound apologies”, acknowledging the lifelong impact of the abuse.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their family,” he said.

Glas is due to be sentenced on 2nd June.

Judge says Canada has met its obligation to survivors who have concluded the claims process

A decades-long court fight between survivors of abuse at a notorious Catholic-run residential school in Fort Albany, and Canada, over disclosure of evidence, appears to have ended with a March 20, 2025 decision in Ontario Superior Court.

Led by former student and Fort Albany Chief, Edmund Metatawabin, the survivors of St. Anne’s had been seeking access to documents from criminal and civil trials connected to abuse allegations at the school, in order to consider reopening compensation claims.

They were also looking for a review of the government’s conduct in response to a 2014 court decision ordering the government to disclose those documents.

French Prime Minister François Bayrou will appear before a parliamentary commission on 14 May to answer questions about his role in a 1998 investigation into alleged child sexual abuse at a Catholic school when he was education minister. Other former holders of the post, as well as the incumbent Education Minister Élisabeth Borne, have also been called for questioning.

A federal judge has ruled against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a lawsuit over who pays for sexual abuse settlements.

The Church sued its own insurance providers, National Union Insurance and ACE Property & Casualty Co., demanding it cover the cost of settlements tied to a West Virginia lawsuit over sexual abuse.

“They were aware of it but they just kept covering up and never did anything about it,” Tom Stollings, one of the plaintiffs in the West Virginia lawsuit against the faith, told FOX 13 News.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding additional victims of a priest who is accused of sexually abusing a child.

The Rev. Jaime Arriaga-Pedroza, 41, was arrested Thursday, the day after the Archdiocese of Los Angeles received a report “alleging sexual misconduct involving a minor” that was then reported to authorities, church officials said in a statement.

“The Archdiocese has a long-standing commitment to the protection of minors and the reporting and prevention of abuse,” church officials said in a statement. “Allegations of misconduct against anyone serving in the Archdiocese are reported to law enforcement, fully investigated and, under the Zero-Tolerance Policy, anyone who is found to have harmed a minor is permanently removed from any capacity in the Archdiocese. ”

The local bishops’ conference made the concession after the cardinal pushed back on their previous statements

In the latest of a back-and-forth exchange between Peru’s bishops’ and a cardinal accused of abuse, the country’s bishops’ conference said on Monday that Cardinal Juan Cipriani has not been found guilty in a canonical procedure, and that the cardinal has the right to assert his innocence.

The April 7 statement comes after Cipriani accused the Peruvian bishops of lying about him last week, charging that it was a “lie” and a “grave mistake” for the bishops’ conference to say his 2019 resignation as Lima’s archbishop was connected to abuse allegations against him, and asking the conference to rectify its statement.

SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, has been alerted to the presence of two accused priests from the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) at Immaculate Conception Church in the Diocese of Fairbanks.  The clerics are Frs. Gerardys Hauwert and Daniel Mentesana.

Countless times in the past, Catholic officials have “cleared’ clerics and put them back into parishes, only later to have to remove them again when additional accusations are reported. We are concerned that this history could repeat itself in Alaska.

A judge declared a mistrial Thursday in the trial of a former Marblehead priest, Tower School assistant headmaster and Boy Scout leader charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Marblehead boy in 1976.

The jury deliberated for about eight hours without reaching a verdict. It’s not clear yet whether the prosecutor will attempt to retry Father Richard Losch, who is 92 years old. Losch served at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Marblehead from 1969-1986. He worked at the Tower School from 1969-1981.

The 64-year-old accuser, whom the Current will identify as “Jack,” attended Tower and had Losch as a teacher. Jack told the Current that while he’s disappointed the jury did not return a guilty verdict, “I really feel like I can move forward now.”

A Downey priest was charged with committing multiple sex crimes on a child, the Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Thursday.

Jaime Arriaga Pedroza, 41, was charged with one felony count of assault with intent to commit lewd acts upon a child and five felony counts of lewd act upon a child aged 14 or 15 by a person at least 10 years older.

Pedroza allegedly committed multiple lewd acts on a child aged 14 or 15 on or between Feb. 8 and March 21 while serving as a priest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey. On or about March 22, 2025, the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim with the intent to commit lewd acts upon a child.

A former Piedmont Triad worship director is facing several child sex crime charges, according to court records.

Matthew Henry Laparra, 43, of Burlington, is being charged with three felony counts of statutory rape and two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Laparra is accused in the warrant of engaging in sexual acts with a “person of the age of 15 years.” The allegations date back to January 2008 and the charges were filed on April 2, 2025.

Laparra previously served as the “Worship Team Director” at Trinity Worship Center in Burlington. His position is listed in the TWC Worship Ministry Handbook from October 2021.

Laparra’s employment with Trinity Worship Center ended in August 2024.

The Downey priest who was arrested for sexually assaulting a girl may have committed the sex crimes between February and March, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Thursday.

Jaime Arriaga-Pedroza, who was a priest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey, allegedly committed multiple lewd acts on a child aged 14 or 15 on or between Feb. 8 and March 21, according to the DA’s office. 

Then on March 22, the priest allegedly assaulted the same victim with the intention to commit lewd acts.

A BISHOP has apologised for the sexual abuse carried out by a Catholic priest against a child in Jersey and claimed “robust” safeguards are in place in the church.

Philip Egan, the Bishop of Portsmouth, was commenting following the conviction of Piotr Glas, a former parish priest in the Island – which falls under the Diocese of Portsmouth.

Glas was this week found guilty of three counts of committing gross indecency against a child following a seven-day trial in the Royal Court. French Prime Minister François Bayrou will appear before a parliamentary commission on 14 May to answer questions about his role in a 1998 investigation into alleged child sexual abuse at a Catholic school when he was education minister. Two sisters are suing a Virginia church, claiming leaders ignored sexual abuse by a now-convicted youth group assistant.

RICHMOND, Va. — Two sisters have filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against a Virginia Baptist church, claiming the church leaders did not stop sexual abuse by a youth group assistant.

The women claim the abuse took place between 2006 and 2009, beginning when the women were 6 and 10 years old. Gerald R. Thomas, a now-convicted sex offender, is accused of grooming and sexually assaulting the girls on an almost weekly basis during church youth programs.

The youth group operated at Bethany Place Baptist Church in North Chesterfield. It was acquired by Coastal Church, LLC in 2023 and was rebranded as Coastal Church – Bethany Campus.

NEW ORLEANS (NEWS 15) — Attorneys for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and involved parties have started discussions to resolve a bankruptcy case linked to clergy abuse. Second Harvest Food Bank, a charity associated with the church, is part of the talks.

In January, News 15 Investigates reported that Natalie Jayroe, the CEO of Second Harvest, and several board members were terminated. It was uncovered that the proposed bankruptcy settlement involving clergy abuse victims may have played a role in the firings.

BOSTON — At least one in every four girls and one in every 20 boys will experience childhood sexual abuse, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In an effort to reduce this rate, legislators on Beacon Hill are considering several bills to strengthen protections for children and teenagers.

In total, 20 bills have been filed across the state Senate and House of Representatives that seek to address school policies and hiring practices, expand the statute of limitations and criminal penalties for adults who engage in inappropriate relationships with students, and require additional education, training and policies in schools.

Versions of the bills have been filed and failed to pass previously, but legislators and advocates say they are feeling confident they will pass this legislative session.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Senate unanimously approved a bill on Thursday that would extend the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse felonies. It is now headed to Governor Bill Lee’s desk for his signature.

The bill extends the length of time that a survivor of child sexual abuse can file a lawsuit against their abuser. Currently, offenders can only face prosecution for crimes like rape, sexual battery or solicitation of a minor for up to 25 years after a survivor turns 18 years old. A Catonsville Christian youth group leader faces nearly 80 charges, including inappropriately touching teenage boys in his care, according to charging documents.

Police charging documents state that Kevin Blair Guy, 32, sexually abused five minors. The allegations go back several years.

Guy is being held without bail. He’s been in jail since March 12 — an indictment was handed out on Monday.

Neighbors 11 News spoke to are shocked and surprised by the allegations.

“I never expected anything like that,” said Mary Baykowski. “He is such a nice guy, friendly, help you do anything you needed help with. I just can’t believe it.”

Baykowski lives near Guy, who she said lives with his wife and 4-year-old son.

Judge says Canada has met its obligation to survivors who have concluded the claims process

A decades-long court fight between survivors of abuse at a notorious Catholic-run residential school in Fort Albany, and Canada, over disclosure of evidence, appears to have ended with a March 20, 2025 decision in Ontario Superior Court.

To mark Child Abuse Prevention Month, blue lights illuminate the church’s exterior and blue ribbons decorate trees and doors of the parish, which is located on the east side of the city and has a predominantly Spanish-speaking congregation of some 3,000 families. Church misled the public with backstage legal fight over promised state investigation, they allege.

Childhood victims of abuse by members of the clergy say they were devastated when they learned that the Diocese of Camden — after promising transparency in the wake of a scandal that led to its bankruptcy — spent years waging a secret legal battle to kill the state’s efforts to further investigate its own “sordid history.”

The ruling Democratic Party (DP) and the government have agreed to push for abolishing the statute of limitations for sex crime involving children and minors.

DP and government officials held a consultative meeting Sunday to discuss ways to strengthen the punishment of digital sex crime in response to a high-profile sex exploitation case at online chat rooms involving minors, widely known as the “Nth room case.”

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – Rory Waide has been arrested and charged with Child Grooming, which is a Third Degree Felony.

According to an arrest affidavit, Waide entered his juvenile stepdaughter’s bedroom to touch her inappropriately while she was asleep.

The juvenile made an outcry against Waide and was forensically interviewed. During that interview she said that Waide would touch her, and that he wrote a personal letter to the juvenile and gave her an adult sex toy. She was able to provide investigators pictures of the items.

The arrest affidavit states Waide attempted to induce a child younger than 18 to engage in conduct that would constitute an offense involving sexual activity.

Waide was arrested on March 27.

Jersey’s Royal Court has found a former Catholic priest guilty on three counts of gross indecency with a child.

Piotr Antoni Glas, 61, committed his crimes on multiple occasions against a teenage boy between 2004 and 2007.

There were cries from the public dock when the guilty verdicts were read out, after an eight-day trial.

Clerical abuse advocates and survivors described the death of defrocked cardinal Theodore McCarrick on April 3 as a “gut punch” for victims still healing after many decades.

Former cardinal and laicized priest Theodore McCarrick has died. The exposure of his grave sins and crimes marked another phase of the sexual abuse crisis. Having lived out his last years in secluded dementia, there is little left to say about the details of his case.  

His death is an occasion to recall what McCarrick taught us about clerical corruption, and how prevalent it remains in the history of salvation. The days before Holy Week are a good time to be reminded of that.

Catholic and Muslim groups called out sexist and racist jokes by candidates in the Philippines’ May 12 elections, as the country’s poll body threatened to sue violators of its anti-discrimination rules.

One of the most controversial cases involves a Metro Manila congressional candidate, Christian Sia of Pasig City, who offered to have sex “once a year” with single mothers who “are still menstruating.”

Two Philippine politicians who will contest in the upcoming midterm elections in May issued public apologies after their sexist remarks triggered strong backlash from various quarters, including the Church and netizens.

Critics say the remarks by Misamis Oriental City gubernatorial candidate Peter Unabia and Pasay City congressional candidate and lawyer Christian Sia exposed deep-rooted misogyny in the society of the Catholic-majority nation.

Unabia and Sia came under fire after they made lewd remarks about women on April 3.

Unabia, who is seeking re-election, said during a nursing scholarship program that nursing was a profession “only for beautiful women” and not for men and “unattractive” female applicants.

There have been a series of sex abuse and suicide cases involving Catholic nuns in recent years

Catholic nuns in India are conducting a series of training programs as part of enabling women religious to address challenges posed by sexual abuse, poor mental health, and suicidal tendencies.  

The Conference of Religious Women India (CRWI) concluded its tenth training workshop from April 1 to 5 in the western state of Goa. About 50 nuns from across India attended the program, which is conducted in collaboration with the Church-run Christ University in Bangalore.

“We have begun strengthening the resilience of the religious sisters to face challenges at work and to foster community support for mental well-being,” said Sister Molly Mathew, who leads this training project.

The organization represents about 103,000 nuns working in various parts of India.

A Catholic priest from Downey remains in custody after Los Angeles County prosecutors charged him with several counts of child sexual abuse on Monday. 

Jaime Arriaga, 41, was remanded without bail after pleading not guilty to six felony counts related to the case. Most of the charges from the alleged sexual abuse happened in early February, according to court records. However, prosecutors also charged him with an assault that allegedly happened more than a month later on March 22. 

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles said Arriaga started presiding at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in January 2024 as a transitional deacon before being ordained as a priest six months later. The archdiocese added that it learned about the allegations on April 2. It immediately dismissed Arriaga from the ministry and reported the case to investigators.

The former longtime counselor is not permitted within 1,000 feet of any school and will have to register as a sex offender.

A former head counselor at an all-boys’ Catholic high school in Ohio has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a student.

On Monday, 43-year-old Emily Nutley reportedly welled up with tears as she pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Nutley is not permitted to be within 1,000 feet of any school.

One of the alleged sexual encounters occurred in the counselor’s office at the school after hours.

Nutley had been a head counselor at St. Xavier High School in Springfield Township.

A man who used his position as a teacher, dorm master and head of the tuck shop to abuse several vulnerable young boys says he can’t recall the abuse.

Michael James O’Donnell, 76, was jailed for five years and two months in the Palmerston North District Court on Tuesday after he admitted the indecent assault and sexual violation of five students at Hato Paora College in the 1980s.

The historic sexual offending took place at several locations within the school grounds, including in O’Donnell’s own living quarters, as well as outside school when he took students with him to run errands.

Trauma is a lot like having a shard of glass in your hand, explains clinical psychologist Hillary McBride.

After time, it’s often invisible to the eye. The wound is obscured, the initial injury only noticeable by the ways we adapt to avoid pain — holding a utensil differently, typing with one fewer finger.

Some traumas can be linked a single incident — or single sliver of glass — but in the case of spiritual trauma, it’s like having a handful of glass pieces, says McBride, and almost no memory of how they got there.

“Everyone around is saying, ‘It’s good, it’s right,’” said McBride. “’It’s supposed to hurt.’”

A new archbishop will replace Joseph F. Naumann as the spiritual father and shepherd of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, church leaders announced this week.

Pope Francis appointed Most Reverend Shawn McKnight to lead the archdiocese after Naumann’s mandatory retirement at the age of 75.

According to church officials, McKnight will serve as the fifth archbishop and 12th bishop of the archdiocese.

Archbishop-designate McKnight currently serves as bishop in Jefferson City. He was born in Wichita and ordained a priest for the Diocese of Wichita in May 1994.

McKnight earned a doctorate degree in sacred theology in 2001 at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselm in Rome. He taught graduate courses in liturgy, homiletics and dogma for some time before returning to pastoral ministry.

The Texas House today unanimously passed a proposed state law to prohibit non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) involving child sexual abuse and adult sexual assault.

HB 748, which is titled “Trey’s Law” in honor of Trey Carlock, a victim of child sexual abuse who took his life, passed 149-0. The bill, which applies to civil settlements, would nullify any NDAs that keep victims of abuse or trafficking from disclosing their abuse, as previously reported by The Roys Report (TRR).

A man who says a former Marblehead priest raped him on a trip to a Boy Scout camp in Orford, New Hampshire, in 1976 was one of five witnesses to testify on the first day of the Rev. Richard Losch’s criminal trial April 8. 

At Grafton Superior Court in New Hampshire, the alleged victim, now 64, testified that Losch invited him and three other Marblehead boys to the Indian Pond Boy Scout camp, where Losch was the director. The camp had not yet opened for the season. No other adults were invited.

DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) — A Downey priest is facing criminal charges of assault and lewd acts involving a minor, and one organization believes he may have victimized others.

Eyewitness News obtained video from June 1, 2024, when Jaime Arriaga was ordained as a priest. Now, he faces a new reality after he was arrested and charged with assault and lewd acts on a child.

Arriaga pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment on Monday and is being held without bail.

Theodore McCarrick’s death takes the clergy sexual abuse crisis into one of its most frequent dead ends. Dead dogs don’t bite?

Back in August 2023, a court declared McCarrick unfit to face trial despite his earlier attempt at declaring himself not guilty of sexual abuse charges.

McCarrick’s death brings no solution or relief to the victims and it only perpetuates a playbook, a template, allowing factions of the Catholic Church to use victims as bargaining pieces in their internal quarrels.

In the wake of Theodore McCarrick’s death, the silence that often follows the demise of accused predators risks blurring our understanding of the clergy sexual abuse crisis.

In an international operation spanning 38 countries, German investigators said on Wednesday that they had dismantled “KidFlix”, a major online platform for the distribution of child sex abuse images with 1.8 million users worldwide.

German investigators said on Wednesday that they had dismantled a major platform for the distribution of child sex abuse images with 1.8 million users worldwide in an international operation coordinated by Europol.

The move to shut down the “KidFlix” streaming service was “one of the biggest blows against child pornography in recent years, if not ever”, said Guido Limmer, deputy head of the Bavarian criminal police.

A man abused as a child at a Missouri Christian camp agreed to remain silent, and took his own life. His sister is pushing several states to ban such nondisclosure agreements.

Like the children of many affluent evangelical families in Dallas, Elizabeth Carlock Phillips and her younger brother Trey Carlock spent their summers at a Christian sports camp in Missouri. After Mr. Carlock suffered years of sexual abuse by one of the camp’s directors, he reached a financial settlement to compensate him for his trauma, but at a suffocating price: He could never tell anyone about what had happened.

Nearly 100 California sexual abuse lawsuits were filed in tandem against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — widely known as the Mormon Church — last year, and one of them involves Modesto, according to documents obtained by The Bee.

Piotr Antoni Glas (61) admitted he had a “foot fetish” – and had downloaded images of feet to his computer which the child later discovered – but said he never acted on that fetish.

A CATHOLIC priest on trial for abusing a child has denied the offences happened but admitted he has an “issue with feet” and that he took a bag of children’s socks from a secondary school in Southampton and brought them to Jersey with him.

UPDATE: Canadian County Sheriff’s Office statement

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., deputies and investigators from the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in Yukon, Oklahoma. The search was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Upon entry into the residence, authorities gathered all occupants for questioning.

Kevin Cobbs, the suspect in the investigation, was briefed on the search warrant, and a copy was provided to them.

During questioning, Kevin admitted to viewing explicit material involving various adult and adult-female relationships but denied seeking or possessing images related to CSAM.

I remember the first time I heard about then-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick liking to share a bed with young seminarians.

It was 2002, and I was working at the Vatican. A co-worker told me of how he took part in a weekend retreat with McCarrick years before, when he was a seminarian and McCarrick was a bishop. It was two to a bed in the house, and he got the call to share with McCarrick.

He said McCarrick only put a hand on his shoulder before falling asleep, but he also said he had heard stories of more “intimate” transactions taking place between McCarrick and others in similar circumstances.

It was then I learned McCarrick’s nickname was “Uncle Ted.”

A hospital in Daegu issued a public apology on Saturday after a nurse in its neonatal intensive care unit was accused of abusing newborns and posting unsettling photos of them on social media.

The nurse, who works at Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, ignited public outrage after sharing an image of herself holding an infant, with captions that appeared to suggest a desire to drop the baby.

The disgraced former cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, removed from the clerical state in 2019 after revelations of credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors and misconduct against adults, has died in Missouri. He was 94.

Archbishop of Washington from 2001-2006 and a once powerful figure in the Catholic Church in the U.S. known to successfully fundraise for Vatican causes, McCarrick was removed from ministry at the direction of the Vatican in June 2018 due to a credible allegation of sexual abuse of a teenager investigated by the Archdiocese of New York.

McCarrick’s attorney confirmed his death April 4 to OSV News. According to multiple sources, he died April 3.

Defrocked Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the once-powerful archbishop of Washington, D.C., who was removed from the priesthood amidst one of the worst sexual-abuse scandals in the history of the American Catholic Church, has died at the age of 94 in Missouri. 

His death on April 3 was confirmed by Cardinal Robert McElroy, the recently installed archbishop of Washington. The National Catholic Reporter had reported the news earlier, attributing it to two people briefed on the matter but who asked not to be named. 

Ordained in 1958, McCarrick became archbishop in Newark, New Jersey, in 1986 and then archbishop of Washington, D.C., in 2000, rising to power despite church officials’ knowledge of sexual-abuse accusations against him. 

A two-year Vatican investigation into McCarrick’s tenure found credible reports of his abusive behavior dating to 1999, including an inquiry confirming that he slept with seminarians.
