Br. Jerome Binder

Professed vows in 1957. Province of Cincinnati.Assigned to high schools in CIncinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. In 2014, Bro. Bernard Hartman was facing trial in Australia on child abuse allegations, when one person came forward to allege abuse at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh diocese sought information on other possible victims, which yielded allegations against 7 other brothers, including Binder. Binder was at North Catholic 1961-66, 1975-76, and 1979-89. Died in 2/2000. Head of Marianists apologized in writing to diocese and students. Included on the U.S. Marianists list 6/24/20.
Br. Paul Botty

Professed vows in 1980. Assignments included Chaminade Julienne High School in Dayton, OH and St. Joseph's High School in Cleveland. Removed from public ministry in 1986. Convicted of sexual battery. In 3/86 sentenced to 7 1/2 years for molesting four teenage boys; 12 felony counts dismissed. Case reported in State v. Botty, 1988 WL 86954 (Ohio App). Died 12/27/07 in CA. Marianist Newsletter 1/8/08 referred to him as a "former Marianist." Included on the U.S. Marianists list 6/24/20, with the suffix F.X.
Fr. William Anthony Christensen

Sued 2002 by a man alleging sexual abuse by Christensen and Bro. John J. Woulfe at Chaminade Prep in St. Louis, when the boy was ages 15-17 in 1973-75. Abuse allegedly included oral sex, anal sodomy, and viewing porn. Christensen not served with suit until 10/07. Plaintiff died in 2008; his family settled in 2011. Lived and worked in Bangladesh for 20 years, where he allegedly abused 30 Muslim children. Laicized in 2010; he appealed laicization. Reportedly still in Bangladesh in 6/18, running an NGO he founded in 2012. He had filed defamation lawsuits against one of his accusers and against a former nun who had reported him to his provincial.

Fr. Joseph B. Di Peri

Accused of abuse of student at Chaminade High School in Canoga Park in 1977-78. He was a priest from Newark NJ working in LA archdiocese. He reportedly removed himself from active priesthood and was living under supervision in a retirement home for priests in NJ. Died in 3/07. Marianist personnel file released 7/13 as part of 2007 L.A. settlement. Included on the Newark archdiocese's list 2/13/19.

Fr. Thomas Joseph Doyle

Accused of molesting twin brothers over a 10-year period while pastor of Sacred Heart in Vernon, CT starting when the boys were 14 in about 1980. The boys allegedly told counselors in 1983. One of the counselors, Franciscan Bro. DeMatteis, is also alleged to have made sexual advances toward one of the twins. In 1992, the diocese removed Doyle and the Marianists suspended him. Civil suit filed in 1995. Two more accusers later came forward. Doyle was treated in both NM and MD. Laicized in 2002. Died 3/20/07. Included in 2/19 on the Diocese of Norwich's list. Included on the Marianists list of accused 6/24/20. Added in 11/20 to Baltimore's list, where he worked 1967-73. Included on the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22.

Marianist brother, Province of Cincinnati. Professed vows in 1920. Worked in OH, NY, PA, HI. Died in 1974. Named included on the Marianists 6/24/20 list of those "found to have sexually abused a minor."

Accused in a 2006 lawsuit of abuse of a student 1973-74 at Chaminade College Prep in Canoga Park, where he was later principal. Left the Marianists and was ordained a priest on 8/24/85 for the Monterey diocese, where he became monsignor, Chancellor, and Moderator of the Curia. Still listed as an active priest at St. Joseph church in Cayucos in the 2010 Monterey Directory. Marianist personnel file released 7/13 as part of 2007 LA settlement.
Fr. John P. Finke

Priest of the Marianist Province of Cincinnati. Teacher, military chaplain, parish priest. Worked in Cleveland, Dayton, and Cincinnati, OH and Houma-Thibodaux, LA. Died in 1983. Named publicly as accused of child sexual abuse by the US Province Marianists on its list 6/24/20. (The Catholic Directory and Finke's obituary show his middle initial as P.; the Marianist's list shows it as J.) Included on the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22.
Br. Eugene T. Fitzsimmons
Professed vows as a Marianist brother in 1947. Worked at high schools in IL, TX, WI, CA, MO, HI. Per news in 2002, Fitzsimmons was accused of sexually abusing Michael Rodriguez 20 years prior when Rodriguez was a student at Catholic High School in San Antonio. Rodriguez, who was one of the "Texas Seven" prison escapees who shot and killed a police officer 12/24/00, claimed in penalty portion of his trial for this murder that Fitzsimmons abused him. Defense attorney even brought Fitzsimmons to Texas to testify at trial. Fitzsimmons invoked the Fifth Amendment and did not testify. Fitzsimmons was included on the Marianists' list 6/24/20. Withdrew from the Order in 2000. Died in 2011.
Br. Bernard Joseph Hartman

Joined Marianists in 1958; worked many years in Australia. Taught 1986-97 at North Catholic High in Pittsburgh. US Marianists learned of Australian allegations in 1997; removed from school. Sent to treatment; reassigned to internal ministry under safety plan. In 1999 accused by woman in Australia of sexual abuse when she was age 8. He apologized to her by letter. In US in 2008 when he celebrated his 50th anniversary. Lived in Dayton OH area in 2009. New accusers in Australia. Returned to Australia 9/13, convicted of sustained sexual abuse, including penetration, of a boy and 2 girls as young as age 8. Two more allegations at N. Catholic. Released from jail in Australia 7/23/17 after 3 years, 1 year suspended. To return to US. Per Marianists he was to live in a non-Marianist facility with direct supervision of men with "significant personal issues and/or legal convictions" for the rest of his life, with no external ministry. On Marianists list 6/24/20. On Covington diocese's list 7/31/20.

Fr. Thomas E. Havel

Ordained for the L.A. archdiocese. Joined the Marianists in 1972. Requested laicization. Became a psychiatrist. A 1989 civil suit was dismissed due to the statute of limitations. Accused by a woman in 2002 of abuse as a minor 1968-73. Order settled. Another suit filed 2003. Per L.A., laicized prior to 7/5/02. Personnel file released by Order 7/13.
Br. William Charles Hildebrand

Worked in OH, KY, PA, HI, CA. Accused in 2014 of abusing students at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, where he worked 1951-61. One person alleged abuse at the school by Hildebrand when in 2014 fellow Marianist, Br. Bernard Hartman, was facing trial in Australia on child abuse charges. The Pittsburgh diocese sought information on other possible victims, and four people came forward with allegations against Hildebrand. Died 10/16/79. Diocese says it knew nothing of the allegations until 2014. Head of Marianists apologized in writing to Diocese and students. Named in 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. Included on the Marianists list of accused 6/24/20. On the Covington diocese's 7/31/20 list.

Fr. Bernard L. Horst
Joined the Marianists, Province of Cincinnati, in 1931. Made perpetual vows in 1938. Ordained in 1945. Worked in OH, NY, PA, MI. Died 2/15/01. Included on the Order's list of accused 6/24/20. On the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22.
Br. Kumara S. Kambhampati
Professed vows in 2007. Removed in 12/18 from his assignment at Chaminade College Prep in West Hills after "credible information" that he engaged in recent inappropriate communication of a sexual nature with a student. Kambhampati had been at the school since 2017. He was also removed from the Marianists' West Hills community. Withdrew from the order in 2021, per the Marianists' list in 11/21. The updated lists adds to Kambhampati's status, "Sexually abusive contact of a minor through the use of internet/social media."
Br. John J. Keegan
Professed vows in 1945. Worked in Dayton OH, Hamilton OH, Pittsburgh PA and Brooklyn NY. Left the Order in 1962. Died in 2007. In 4/14 a man alleged abuse as a minor by Keegan at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh 1957-61. After the Pittsburgh diocese sought information on other possible victims, two brothers came forward. Diocese said it knew nothing of the allegations until 2014. Head of the Marianists apologized in writing to Diocese and students. By 5/14 six men had reported sexual abuse by Keegan as minors at North Catholic during 1956-61. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of accused.

Br. William Kiefer
Allegations received 6/14 say that at least one individual was abused by Kiefer at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School (formerly North Catholic High) between 1956-62. Kiefer is deceased. In 2014 he is one of 9 Marianists accused of abuse at Cardinal Wuerl since initial announcement of abuse by Br. Bernard Hoffman.
Br. Walter A. Klick
Marianist brother of the Cincinnati Province. Professed vows in 1931. Assigned to high schools in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dayton OH, Puerto Rico, Covington KY, Washington DC, Pittsburgh PA, San Francisco CA, Brooklyn NY, Baltimore MD. Also assigned to the University of Dayton. Died in 1979. Included on the Marianists 6/24/20 list of accused. Added to the Baltimore archdiocese's list 11/3/20.
Br. James Kline

In 2014 fellow Marianist Bro. Bernard Hartman was facing trial in Australia on child abuse allegations when one individual came forward to allege abuse at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. After the Pittsburgh Diocese sought information on other possible victims, allegations were made against 7 other brothers, including at least one against Kline. Kline was at North Catholic 1940-47. Also worked in OH, DC and Puerto Rico. He died in 12/97. Head of Marianist Order apologized in writing to Diocese and students.
Br. Albert Koch

Accused in a lawsuit filed 1/6/21 of sexually abusing a girl, age 14, in summer 1974 at the Marianist Famiy Retreat Center in Cape May Point. The girl was a volunteer camp counselor. Koch reportedly remained active at the center into 2020. Removed. Koch's accuser also alleged abuse at the camp by Mariainist Fr. John Sheehan.

Br. Harold J. Lootens

Professed vows in 1947 as a Marianist brother, St. Louis Province. Worked in TX and MO. Died 5/24/14. Included on the Order's 6/24/20 list, with allegations related to child pornography.
Br. Augustine W. Ludwig
Professed vows as a Marianist brother in 1949, Province of the Pacific. Worked in schools from Hawaii to Virginia. Accused of abuse of at least 5 teenage boys while principal at DeSales Catholic School in Spokane in the 1970s. Four cases settled; files sealed. Left the Marianists in 1980. Joined the Benedictines in 1983. Ordained for the Benedictines in 1987. Worked in Richmond, Virginia diocese until 1998 when one of his accusers learned where he was and notified the diocese. One claim settled for $30K in 4/04. Died 12/30/07. On Richmond diocese's list 2/13/19. It notes he "abandoned ministry." On the Marianists' list of accused 6/24/20.

Br. Julius F. May

Allegations of abuse at North Catholic in Pittsburgh were made in 2014 against 7 Marianist brothers, including May, who was at the school 1960-70. Two former students alleged he abused them. Head of Marianist Order apologized in writing to Diocese and students. Born 1898. Entered Order 1924, final vows 1928. Taught and was principal of a number of high schools, including in Dayton OH, Hamilton OH, Chester PA, Brooklyn NY, Philadelphia PA, Beacon NY, Covington KY, Pittsburgh PA. Died 7/8/70. Included on the Order's list 6/24/20.

Br. James J. McGloin

Accused of abuse of a minor in 1963, per archdiocesan report. Claims in a civil suit of abuse at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena when he was an instructor. Dispensed from Perpetual vows 4/11/70. Working in HI at the time. Married, raised a family, continued as an educator. Died 6/13/13. Personnel files released by Order in 7/13 do not actually specify child abuse, but they do admit that celibacy had always been an issue for him. Fr. Patrick J. McNulty
Professed vows as a Marianist in 1952. Ordained in 1966. Worked in IL and TX. A woman filed suit in 2004 against the archdiocese and order alleging that McNulty abused her for three years in the 1970s, starting when she was age 12. McNulty was at Holy Rosary Parish at the time of the alleged abuse. Another person told the Assistant Provincial in 1977, but the girl and her family denied the abuse then. McNulty was transferred to another assignment in 1980. Died in 1984 in WI. On the San Antonio archdiocese's list 1/31/19. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of accused.
Br. Francis Meder

Professed vows in 1911. Worked in OH, NY, PA, CA, HI. Died 6/10/1976. Four individuals came forward in 2014 to allege abuse by Meder, who was at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh 1952-67 and again 1970-76. Diocese said it knew nothing of the allegations until 2014. Head of Marianist Order apologized in writing to Diocese and students. Named in 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. It showed multiple allegations of abuse by Meder of boys and girls, ages 8-11, in the 1950s and 1960s. Included on Marianists' list of accused 6/24/20.

Br. Louis J. Meinhardt

Professed vows in 1923 as a Marianist brother, St. Louis Province. Worked in IL, MO, MI, IA, TX. In 9/11 a former St. Louis Chaminade College Prep student came forward to the Order, alleging sexual abuse in the 1970s by Br. Meinhardt and Br. John Woulfe. Letters were sent to 1600 school alumni who graduated 1958-1982. At least 15-16 responded with credible allegations of verbal and sexual abuse by the two men. Meinhardt worked at the school 1958-1982. He died in 1990. Original accuser had come forward in 2003 and 2009; others had also come forward before 2011. Civil suit filed 2/23/12. Another suit filed in 12/15. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of accused.

Fr. Charles H. Miller

Professed vows in 1953 for the Marianists, St. Louis Province, ordained in 1964. Worked in MO, GA, TX. In 2005 a woman reported to the Marianists that Miller groomed and fondled her at age 14 in 1976 in St. Louis, and that he molested her when she was 17 in 1980 in San Antonio, TX. In 2007 the Order admitted privately that the allegations were "credible." Order found that Miller had been involved with two other women. In 2007, the Order restricted Miller's ministry and moved him from TX, where he was a teacher at St. Mary's University, to their headquarters in Rome. Still there in 2/19. On San Antonio archdiocese's list 1/31/19. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of accused.

Br. Ralph A. Mravintz

Professed vows as a Marianist brother in 1944. Worked in OH, NY, FL, TN and PA. Teacher at Pittsburgh's North Catholic High School. Accused of molesting a male student, age 15, 10/84-2/85. Mravintz would hug, say "I love you" to and fondle the boy, who had sought help with studies. Mravintz faced charges of indecent assault and corrupting a minor, but was not removed from his classroom. He pled no contest to disorderly conduct because boy did not want to testify. Diocese denied responsibility because Mravintz was a member of a religious order. Died in 5/06. In 5/14, the Archdiocese denied any knowledge of the 1985 charges until notified by an alumnus in response to a request for complaints regarding Br. Hartman, another abusive priest. The Marianists' U.S. Provincial apologized in writing the Diocese and students. On Order's list of accused 6/24/20.

Professed vows in 1957 as a Marianist brother, St. Louis Province. Worked in MO, TX, CO. Left the Order in 1986. Multiple lawsuits against the Marianists and diocese in 2005 and 2006. Accused of drugging and sexually abusing at least 40 students in the 1960s-80s. Some litigation filed in TX and MO. Dioceses allegedly knew as early as 2002. One MO suit settled in 10/97. Fr. Robert R. Osborne

President of St. John Vianney High School when accused in a lawsuit in 2006 of "sexually, physically and emotionally" abusing a student. The boy had recently disclosed abuse to his therapist and family. Osborne stepped down from his position pending the investigation. A second student also came forward. Osborne denied the allegations. He did acknowledged having been accused in 1982 of inappropriate behavior with a high school boy in Creve Coeur. Vianney High School officials asked him to leave in 8/06 because the lawsuit would distract from his job. In 10/06 the prosecutor announced there was no evidence to support criminal charges. Civil suit settled with Order in 6/07. As of 2/08, Osborne claimed to be chaplain for Kirkwood Police Dept. Faculties removed in 5/09 by interim bishop Herrmann after news of previous investigation. Osborne died 4/27/14 in a care facility for Marianists in Cupertino, CA.

Br. Anthony R. Parlangeli
Professed vows as a Marianist in 1963. New York Province. Worked in Fl and Puerto Rico. Per news in 3/02 a man said that at age 15 he was drugged and raped by Parlangeli on an overnight camping trip. Parlangeli said he was too tired to camp and rented a hotel room. Drugs caused convulsions; Parlangeli had to take youth to hospital ER. Police notifed; he was arrested. Charges later reduced to administering drugs illegally. Spent a brief time in jail. Transferred to Baltimore where he also abused. A 1994 civil suit settled. Left order in 1973, married and raised three children. Moved to CA. Died in 1997. Included on the Order's 6/24/20 list of accused.
Br. Anthony J. Pistone

Professed vows in 1953 as a Marianist brother, St. Louis Province. Worked in IL, MO, WI, OK, TX. Campus minister at Chaminade Prep in St. Louis, MO. Left his job in 3/05 after accusations that he had groped a youth at Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, TX in the 1980s. Pistone denied the allegations; internal investigation could not substantiate. Director of West Hills, CA Marianist community 2003-present as of 2/09. Briefly at Province offices in St. Louis, MO in 2007. On Fort Worth diocese's list updated 10/9/18. It notes that he was removed from ministry in 2005 and died 12/6/17. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of those "found to have sexually abused a minor."
Br. Bernard Thomas Pleimann

Spent much of his early career teaching in Hawaii. Accused of abuse of a minor in 1963 when he was a teacher at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA. Called Ploughman in 2/17/04 Los Angeles report; name corrected to Pleimann in Errata 1. Personnel file released by Order in 7/13 shows he took perpetual vows in 7/40, was dispensed from vows in 5/73 (while teaching in Japan) and died 6/14/86.

Professed vows as a Marianist brother, Province of the Pacific, in 1958. Assigned to Chaminade College Prep in West Hills, CA. Left the Order in 1968. Included on the Marianists' list of accused 6/24/20.

Br. Francis A. Russell
Professed vows in 1939. Worked in OH, Puerto Rico, KY, Washington DC, NY, PA. In 11/19 an anonymous former Purcell High School teacher told a news outlet that Bro. Frank Russell was known to sexually abuse students. He said that in 1978 a student told him and another teacher that Russell raped him; the former teacher said he immediately reported the abuse to the school. As vice-principal, Russell was in charge of detention and would allegedly take students who were in trouble to a motel and sexually abuse them. The Marianists denied receiving the 1978 report and said they did not receive another until 1994, after Russell's death. Russell left Purcell in 1978, was assigned to the Diocese of Covington's Office of Religious Ed then to Holy Cross High School in Latonia, KY. Retired in 1983. Died in 1991. On Marianists' list of accused 6/24/20. On the Covington diocese's list 7/31/20.

Worth TX diocese in 8/05 after recent claim of sexual misconduct with a minor in 1996 at Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis. Accuser had just filed suit in circuit court in St. Louis. Taught at Nolan High School in Ft. Worth 1983-87 before transfer to parish. Suit settled in 2007; announced in 2/08. Died in 2017. Included on the Marianists' 6/24/20 list of those "found to have sexually abused a minor." Included on the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22. Noted to have been removed from ministry.

Placed on leave in 4/02 after diocese received an allegation that Watkins had proposed sex to an 18-year-old seminary student 26 years before. Watkins denied the allegation. Ordained as a Marianist; became diocesan priest in 1996. Had been accused of sexual misconduct and had undergone psychological treatment before coming to Diocese in 1991. New allegation in 1995 involved an adult. Granted indefinite medical leave of absence 6/02 after refusing counseling.

Suspended from ministry in 5/16 by Order due to credible allegation he sexually abused a boy, who was a Chaminade High School student, in 2011. Williams was on staff 1991-2012, and President for 12 years until he resigned in 2011. Denied the abuse. Order notified the diocese. Law enforcement was notified in 2/15. Statute of limitations expired in 2013. Per his LinkedIn account 9/18 he was in the Greater NYC Area, having been a PhD student at the U. of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome 8/12-7/16. Accused in a lawsuit 8/19 of abuse of a Chaminade student, ages 14-16, in 1990-93.

Br. John J. Woulfe

Professed vows in 1958 for the Marianists, St. Louis Province. Worked in MO and TX. Accused in a 2002 lawsuit, along with Rev. William A. Christensen, of sexual abuse of a boy, ages 15-17, at Chaminade Prep in St. Louis. On appeal, the MO Supreme Court ruled that repressed memories were admissible and the suit was not time-barred. New accusations in 9/11 and confirmed by letters to school alumni in 2012. Woulfe was at the school for 9 years before leaving the Order in 1977. Died in 2005. New suit filed by a man 4/9/14 alleged abuse at Chaminade Prep in about 1970. Suit filed in 11/15 claimed Woulfe sexually abused a Chaminade student 1968-71, including masturbation and oral sex during "college counseling" meetings.
