Ordained in 1963 for the Diocese of Albany. Appointed Bishop of Albany in 1977. Accused in 2004 of paying a teen for sex twice in the 1970s. Denied the allegation. Hubbard commissioned an investigation to examine this charge, and other allegations of sexual misconduct with adult males. Accused of abuse of a man who died by suicide in 1978. Hubbard's investigation found "no credible evidence." He went on voluntary leave after he was accused in a lawsuit in 8/2019 of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy in the 1990s. Hubbard denied the allegation. A lawsuit filed in 9/2019 claims sexual abuse by Hubbard, along with Fr. Francis Melfe and Fr. Albert DelVecchio, of a girl, during poker games in the rectory of a Schenectady parish in the late 1970s. Hubbard denied the abuse. A third lawsuit, filed in 10/2019, alleged abuse with another priest of a teenage boy 1976-1978. A fourth suit in 10/2019 alleged abuse of a boy in the late 1980s. An 8/2020 suit claimed Hubbard abused and raped a boy, ages 9-11, in the mid-1970s. A new suit in 3/2021 alleged abuse of boy, age 11, in 1977. By 9/2021 Hubbard had been accused in at least 7 lawsuits under the Child Victims Act. He was also accused in "dozens" of lawsuits of covering up the sexual abuse of children in the diocese. Accused in a 2022 lawsuit, along with convicted priest Gary Mercure, of sexually abusing two young brothers beginning in the mid-1980s. Hubbard allegedly abused the younger brother once, and the older brother multiple times. Hubbard denied the allegations. He requested laicization in 11/2022; it was denied by the Vatican. On 8/1/2023, at age 84, Hubbard announced that he had married a woman in a civil ceremony the previous month. He died 8/19/2023 after a massive stroke.

In 12/2003 the Diocese announced that it had cleared LeFevre of wrongdoing after two brothers accused him of propositioning them for sex in 1969 when they were 15 and 17. LeFevre was assigned to St. Margaret's in Rotterdam Junction during the time in question. The brothers originally complained to the Diocese in 1997 and then again in 2002. The Diocese also said it told the two brothers in 1998 or 1999 that LeFevre had been cleared. He died 11/11/2014.

One of six priests removed from active ministry in 6/2002 for credible accounts of sexually abusing minors. The allegations were made in 2002. Pratt was vice chancellor for the diocese and secretary for Bishop Hubbard 1979-1990. No criminal charges were filed due to the statute of limitations. Referred to as a "former priest" in a 6/2004 report on an investigation of Bishop Hubbard. In 6/2019 a 49-year-old man alleged publicly that he was sexually abused beginning in 1980 at age 11 and throughout his teen years by Pratt. He said Pratt made him and another boy engage in sex acts with each other, while he watched. He also claimed that at age 16 he told Bishop Hubbard, and that Hubbard told him that if he ever said anything to anyone again about it he would have him arrested. The man filed a lawsuit in 8/2019. It settled in 10/2025 for $8M, just before trial.

Br. George Puello
From Colombia. Professed vows as a Salesian brother in 1967. Three men filed suit in 9/2002 alleging abuse by Puello when they were students at Salesian Jr. Seminary in Goshen, NY 1969-1973. One man said he told the seminary director (who went on to become an Auxiliary Bishop in Boston); the director dismissed the victim from the seminary, saying he was "not priest material." Per the suit, others at the seminary knew what was going on and there were other abusers at the school. Puello left the order at some point. He was ery active for decades in the Westchester County, NY theater community, including with youth. Died 8/21/2019. Included in 3/2020 on the Salesians list of credibly accused. Fr. James J. Rosch
Parish priest. Diocesan Chaplain for Scouting 1981-94. Rosch was removed in 2002 after credible allegations that he abused a teenage boy 20 years prior. There was a payment by the Diocese. Rosch claimed that his removal was because he fondled a 17-year-old girl when he was 23 and had not yet been ordained. The Diocese refuted his claim, saying that that would not have been cause for his removal. May have appealed dismissal to Vatican. Settlement in 2020 in the low six figures of a claim that Rosch sexually abused an altar boy, ages 13-15, in 1975-77, while assigned to St. Joseph's in Scotia, NY. Accused in two lawsuits current in 9/21, filed under the NY Child Victims Act, of abuse 1992-93 at St. Madeleine Sophie in Schenectady, and of abuse 1975-76 at St. Joseph's in Scotia.

Accused in a lawsuit filed 1/19/21 under the NY Child Victims Act by a man in his 40s of sexually abusing him as a child preparing for First Communion at St. Jude's in Wynantskill. Varno allegedly got the boy drunk on wine then fondled and sodomized him. The diocese kept Varno in public ministry until his parishioners of Our Lady of Grace in Ballston Lake discovered the lawsuit and demanded his removal in 7/21. Varno stepped down voluntarily, including from assignments at Immaculate Conception in Glenville and St. Joseph's in Scotia. He denied the allegations.
Fr. Gregory Weider

The boy was a foster child living with a family that attended the parish. Weider was previously accused in two other claims, in 2004 and 2010, and was kept in ministry. In 5/2022 the diocese announced that it would add Weider to its list of credibly accused. Died 7/12/2024.
