From the Diocese of Tagblaran, Philippines. Visiting priest in the Archdiocese of Hartford 1968-1971. Left the priesthood in 1977. Died in 2008. In 2/2023 the Archdiocese announced a settlement in the low six figures with a woman who filed a claim in 2019 alleging that she was sexually abused as a child by Villacastin. The woman said the abuse occurred multiple times when she ages 8-9 during 1969-1970, in the St. Isaac Jogues Church sacristy and elsewhere.

From India, Oblates of St. Joseph (O.S.J.) Named publicly as accused on the Scranton diocese's list 8/19/18. Pleaded guilty in 1985 to sexually assaulting an altar boy and his sister, both age 9. Sentenced in 1/86 to 5 years' probation and continued treatment at St. Luke's Institute. Allowed shortly after sentencing by Bishop Timlin to return to India to care for his parents. In active ministry in Kerala, India in at least one parish 1995-2000.

Long involved with the Filipino American community. Allegations received in late 2002 that he sexually abused girls more than 40 years prior at Holy Cross Parish. Placed on leave in 2/2003. Violated restrictions placed on him by showing up at his parish and mission, presenting himself as a priest. Allowed to travel to the Philippines in 2004. Resided in a "monitored and restricted setting" after the Archdiocese permanently removed his privileges in 9/2005. Name included on the Archdiocese's 6/2003 list of credibly accused. Two women filed civil suit in 5/2009 after futile mediation. Died in 7/2011. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report. Referred to as a serial predator, with 13 "reported survivors" and at least five claims substantiated by the Archdiocesan Review Board. 

On 7/5/21 the Diocese announced that Vaillancourt had been placed on leave pending the investigation of an allegation that he had sexually abused a girl in the 1980s. Director in the late 1980s of Diocesan Youth Ministry. Pastor at the time of his suspension of St. Brendan the Navigator in Camden, ME. Vaillancourt denied wrongdoing. Reportedly in 9/21 a second woman had come forward, alleging Vaillancourt raped and sexually assaulted her repeatedly in 1982, when she was 15. He was in charge of youth ministry at St. Andre's in Biddeford during the time in question. In 7/22 the diocese announced that its Review Board had determined that the allegations were unfounded, and that Vaillancourt would be returned to active ministry. Assigned in 1/23 to an Auburn parish.

Named publicly as accused by the Franciscans Santa Barbara Province on its list in 11/2023. Subject of one or more pending lawsuits. Credibility of allegations not yet determined. Died 6/22/1997.

Report in 2002 that an 11-year-old girl told a nun in 1999 that Valdez had placed his hand on her groin during confession 12/98. Teacher and the principal embarrassed the child in class, played down the incident to CPS and warned students not to tell anyone. Police conducted a six-month investigation; no charges filed. Parents sued the diocese in 12/99; suit settled out of court. Valdez was still active in 2010. On diocese's list 1/2/19. It notes allegation reclassified in 2019 from non-credible to credible and faculties removed.

A woman reported in 1982 that Valentine sexually abused her three sons, ages 10, 11 and 12. Police sent her to the Archdiocese. Lawsuit filed in 1995; each boy received a $20K settlement in 1998. Valentine was sent for treatment and transferred. Allegations became public in 3/2002; the Archdiocese refused to remove Valentine, saying the allegations were unsubstantiated. Retired in 3/2002 after another person alleged abuse in 1978. The Review Board deemed the allegations substantiated 5/1/2013. Privileges removed. A lawsuit filed in 10/2015 claims repeated sex abuse, including rape, of a boy attending Immaculata School 1977-1981, beginning when the boy was age 11. The plaintiff said Valentine told him the abuse was "special training" to become an altar boy. Included on the Archdiocese's list 7/26/2019 of those with substantiated allegations against them. Valentine died 4/29/2020.

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Portland OR in 1949; moved to Portland ME diocese in 1951, incardinated 1952. At least five allegations of abuse of boys, per docs released by ME AG's office in 5/05. Four were said to be in ME 1956-62. Privileges removed and abuse publicly acknowledged in 1993 after one accusation. A woman told pastor of St. Michael's church in 1994 (and later) that she had been abused at age 11. She settled for $200K in 12/09 for 1976 abuse. Vallely retired in 1988; died 12/12/97. Three more accusers emerged in 12/09. Two men filed suits in 5/13. On 11/23/15 six men filed civil suits vs the Portland ME diocese alleging abuse by Vallely 1958-77. All were altar boys, ages ranging 8-15 during alleged abuse. The diocese settled with the six men 8/15/16 for $1.2 million.

Vallimont's name was added to the diocese's list 5/18/2018. Hospitalized for severe depression in 9/1976. Wrote to the Vatican in 7/1977, requesting laicization and disclosing a brief sexual 'relationship' he had had with a 13-year-old girl, who was a parishioner. Laicized in 12/1977. Last known to be living in Union City, PA. Died in 10/2023.

Named in a 12/03 civil suit filed by two men who alleged that in the mid-1970s Valverde exposed them and others to "alcohol, drugs, cigarettes and deviant sex." Included on list of priests with credible allegations released by the San Diego diocese 3/30/07. Also worked in the San Bernardino diocese. Assigned in as chaplain in 1977 to a psychiatric hospital in Patton, CA. Per a 1977 news article, in addition to parish assignments, Valverde helped organize community counseling centers in several towns and worked with "delinquent" youths. Left active priesthood in 1983. Through clerical errors, these two plaintiffs were NOT included in the 2007 San Diego settlement; their lawsuit still existed until settlement reached 4/08.

Medical center chaplain and former chaplain at several high schools. Placed on leave in 6/2002 when the diocese received allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor in the early 1980s. Reportedly went on leave of absence in 1992 prior to his assignment to the medical center. On the diocese's list in 12/2018. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes 7 "reported survivors."

Publicly named as accused by the Archdiocese in a press release in 10/2002. Had been removed in 1993 after a "serious and substantive allegation of sexual misconduct dating back to the early years of his ministry." On medical leave of absence since 1991 but had begun working part time at Cardinal Mooney High School, Marine City, in 1993. Permanently removed from ministry in 5/2005. Died in 2/2007.

Member of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X, which is not recognized by Roman Catholic Church nor overseen by the San Jose diocese. Retreat master at St. Aloysius Retreat House in Los Gatos 1995- 2000. Accused of molesting a teen girl there in 2000, and attempting to molest another. Sent by Society to its Switzerland headquarters. Worked briefly in the Diocese of Scranton in 2001, applied to be a priest of the diocese; denied after Vatican alerted the diocese to the Los Gatos allegations. Sent to Southdown Institute in Canada for treatment; admitted to molesting a teen girl in 2001 in Europe. Laicization announced 8/05. Moved at some point to Hawaii. On Scranton diocese's list 8/19/18. Per a 2/21 news report, Van der Putten married, had four children, divorced and moved to Oklahoma.

From Belgium. Died 7/25/2009. Diocese of Marquette announced 11/15/2013 that it had received a credible allegation of abuse of a minor by 'Fr. Ben' in 1989 while he filled in at St. Michael Parish in Marquette. The allegation was reported to the Jesuits and to the county prosecutor's office. Included on the Jesuits Midwest Province list 12/17/2018. Included in the MI Attorney General's 10/2022 report, which shows that the allegation was of sexual abuse of a boy, age 10 or 11, in the summer of 1987 and 1988. 

Worked in MA, PA, St. Joseph Indian School in SD, and MS before arriving in the Joliet diocese in 1970. Worked in several parishes, retired in 1995, and died in 8/1997. Credible accusation was received after his death. Name appeared on the Joliet diocese's 6/2008 list of accused priests with a credible/substantiated allegation(s) of sexual abuse of a minor. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, which notes two "reported survivors."

From Holland, where he was ordained in 1937, arriving in the U.S. the same year. Named publicly as accused by the Lafayette LA diocese on its list in 4/19. Died in 1970.

Founding director of Santa Barbara Boys' Choir and principal of St. Anthony's Seminary High School. Admitted to his pedophilic behavior to his Provincial in 1992; sent to treatment. May have sexually abused 150 boys, ages 8-12. Charged 1994 with abuse of students. Convicted. Sentenced 8/1994 to eight years prison for abuse of one. Released in 2002. Named in several civil suits. Reportedly abused six boys 1970-1982. Four claims settled in 2006. Personnel File released in 5/2012; may have been laicized 7/23/1997. On sex offender registry in 1/2012. On Santa Barbara Province Franciscans' list 5/31/2019. It notes report in 1992 of abuse of minors 1977-1984. On Oakland diocese's list in 2019. Accused along with Msgr. Vincent McCabe in a 6/2022 lawsuit of abuse of a fifth-grade boy in 1989. Per plaintiff's attorney, Van Handel told his superiors in the 1970s that he was attracted to young boys.

In 1992 a woman reported inappropriate sexual conduct toward her by Van Liefde when she was a minor 1973-74. Placed on leave in 2002. Another allegation in 2003. Sued in 2003. Per LA archdiocese's 2004 report, there were two accusers, alleging abuse 1971-75.

Named publicly as accused on the diocese's list 1/17/19. Noted to have multiple substantiated allegations of abuse against him, occurring 1963-70. Van Nuland died in 1990.

Named publicly as accused by the Salina diocese on its list 3/29/2019. Multiple allegations. Report to the diocese in 1907 of abuse the same year. Van Speybroeck left the Salina diocese sometime after 1908. On the Diocese of Wichita's list 9/20/2019; worked in the diocese in 1902, "Out of Diocese" 1902-1943. Three Wichita assignments in 1943. Retired in 1943. Died in 1948. Included in the FL Attorney General's report 11/6/2020 (name spelled "Speybroek").

Accused of abuse 1962-1964. Left the L.A. archdiocese in 1970. Accuser came forward in 2002 to allege abuse in about 1961, when he was ages 3-5. Named in archdiocesan report. Named in a civil suit. At least one claim included in 11/06 $10M settlement with order, LA archdiocese and 7 people alleging abuse by five priests and religious. Deceased.

Accused in a 6/2002 lawsuit of abusing two boys who were members of the Little Martins, a touring singing group of Hispanic boys. As of 2002, Van Trieste, 87, was in a Maryland nursing home with dementia. Three additional men joined in the suit in 9/2002. Died 4/5/2007.

Monsignor. Accused by Bob Deacon in 2004 of abusing him as a boy in the 1960s. Diocesan investigation found insufficient information to determine guilt, though the board found Deacon's testimony credible, per his canon lawyer, Rev. Kenneth Lasch. Deacon appealed to the Vatican. In 2/05 the Paterson diocese settled with Deacon and other victims for $5M. Bishop Serratelli informed Lasch that "the Vatican upheld [Serratelli's] decision to exonerate Varettoni," who continued as pastor of Sacred Heart in Clifton. Retired in 2007.

The Diocese announced in 10/2008 that Varney, who retired in 2002, had been placed on leave and barred from public ministry after the Review Board found credible recent allegations that he had engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor in the late 1970s. Varney was an instructor at Toledo Central Catholic High School at the time of the alleged abuse. He was permanently removed from public ministry in 2009. Matter referred to Rome. Included on the Diocese's list in 2010.

"Jack." Arrested in 1997 for public lewdness at a rest area; went on leave. Accused in a lawsuit filed 1/19/21 under the NY Child Victims Act by a man in his 40s of sexually abusing him as a child preparing for First Communion at St. Jude's in Wynantskill. Varno allegedly got the boy drunk on wine then fondled and sodomized him. The diocese kept Varno in public ministry until his parishioners of Our Lady of Grace in Ballston Lake discovered the lawsuit and demanded his removal in 7/21. Varno stepped down voluntarily, including from assignments at Immaculate Conception in Glenville and St. Joseph's in Scotia. He denied the allegations.

Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list 2/13/2019. Removed from ministry. Left the priesthood. A claim was made against him in 1994. Settled. Review board later determined that there was insufficient evidence that the allegation was credible. No longer on the diocese's list as of 9/2022.

Priest of the Diocese of Ciudad Quesada, Costa Rica. Accused of molesting an altar boy. Treated at Casa Alberione, Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, México. Charged in Costa Rica with abuse of a child in 1994 and a became a fugitive in 1998. Fled to New York. Worked as a priest in New York and Hartford. Fled to México in 2002, then Honduras before disappearing again in March 2003, shortly before an international arrest warrant was issued for him. In 2004, a second Costa Rican youth accused Vásquez. Convicted in absentia in 2005 by a Costa Rican court and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Arrested in Honduras in 4/2007, and handed over to Interpol.

Accused publicly in 9/2022 of sexually abusing a boy, age 9, at St. Christopher's in Tonawanda in 1980. The diocese received a report of abuse in 2004, likely from the boy's parents, but determined that there was "no basis" to the allegation. Vatter retired in 5/2022. In 2/2023 he was placed on leave due to an allegation that he sexually abused a girl. Deemed substantiated by the Diocese in 9/2023. No criminal charges due to the statute of limitations.

Named NY auxiliary bishop in 1977. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 11/2019, along with Rev. Donald Whelan, of sexually abusing a boy 1974-1984, while both men were assigned to St. Patrick's in Newburgh. Vaughn died 6/25/2000.

Monsignor. Parish priest, former vicar for Catholic education, chancellor, vicar general, moderator of the curia, director of vocations. In 3/2019, the diocese announced it had received a credible allegation against Vaughan of child sexual abuse, occurring in the late 1970s-early 1980s, while he was assigned to St. Ann's in Keansburg. Removed from ministry. In 4/2019 the diocese quietly updated its list, noting that there were multiple victims. Case reported to law enforcement, and to be sent to the Vatican. Per news in 6/2020, Vaughan was accused in a lawsuit of sexually abusing an altar boy, age 8, on multiple occasions in 1987. The abuse included anal penetration and forced oral copulation.

The diocese acknowledged in 2016 that it had received multiple allegations against Vaughn of sexual abuse of young girls. In 4/02 a woman said he molested her two daughters when they were about age 9, 1961-66. In 7/02 he was accused of sexually abusing two sisters, one ages 3-13 during 1961-74, the other when she was 5-10, in 1958-63. Another report 7/04 claimed abuse of a girl, age 11 or 12 in 1958; in 8/04 a report of abuse of another girl. In 5/12 another allegation, of abuse of a girl 1959-63. In 2016 a woman reported abuse at age 11, and that she witnessed Vaughn's abuse of other girls. Name included on the diocese's list released 8/1/18. Included in the PA Grand Jury Report 8/14/18. Vaughn retired in 1986 and died 12/29/92.

Dismissed from the Crosiers 9/27/2001. As part of a 2/2009 settlement, the Order admitted that it had received credible allegations of child sex abuse committed by Vaughn. (None of the plaintiffs in the 2/2009 settlement was an alleged victim of Vaughn.) As of 3/2010 Vaughn was at an Orthodox-Catholic Church of America Parish in New York. Name included on list of credibly accused priests released the by Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis 12/5/2013; the Archdiocese denied any claims of abuse of minors within the Archdiocese. Name on St. Cloud's list of 1/3/2014 and Crosier list of 3/8/2014. Named in suit filed in 7/2015. Included in 10/2022 on the Chicago Archdiocese's list of credibly accused. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

Privileges removed in 3/13 after allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor more than 15 years prior, when he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Greenwood. In 1/11, with permission of the bishop, he began working for Catholic Near East Welfare Association, a papal agency based in NY City. Apparently in Rome when allegations were made public. As of 4/23/13 accuser waived further criminal investigation, saying church punishment was enough. Diocese was continuing investigation. Laicized in 5/16. In 2017 Vaverek created a nonprofit for supporting priests "at a vocational crossroads" called Pax Bonum. Included on the diocese's 3/19 list of credibly accused.

Per admission by Archbishop Nienstedt of St. Paul-Minneapolis on 11/11/13, Vavra admitted in 1995 that he sexually abused young boys and a teen in 1975 while assigned to Rosebud Indian Reservation in SD. Also admitted sex with adult men. Received in-patient and out-patient treatment 1996-97; allowed to return to ministry in 1998 until his removal in 2003. He received an extra stipend every month until 2012. No publicity at all until 11/13. Last known to be living in New Prague, MN. Included in 12/13 on the archdiocese's list of credibly accused.

Included by the diocese on its list of accused in 2/19 (name misspelled Vazhappily). Permanently removed from ministry 4/3/06.

Accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl at Sacred Heart Shrine in Columbia Heights in 5/2015. The girl's mother reportedly informed Rev. Mosis Villalta, OFM.Cap. in 2015; police were not notified until 10/26/2018, after Villalta told a visiting priest about the situation. Arrested 11/7/2018, charged with second-degree child abuse. Also accused of kissing a 16-year-old girl in 2015, and of rubbing a 15-year-old girl's leg during confession the same year. Archdiocese suspended Vazquez after notified by Order of allegations 10/26/2018. Removed as pastor. Parish's child protection coordinator placed on leave. Arrested on new allegations 12/11/2018, of abuse of a girl starting when she was age 9. On the Baltimore archdiocese's list 12/14/2018. Indicted in 5/2019 on seven counts of sex abuse of two children and a woman. Convicted in 8/2019. Motion for a new trial in 9/2019; denied. Sentenced in 11/2019 to 15 years in prison. Found guilty in 11/2021 of abuse, which occurred during confession, of the young woman. Sentenced to 180 days in prison, to be added to the 15-year sentence. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report (name spelled Vasquez-Ortega). Included on the Washington archdiocese's list.

Assigned in NE, MN, IN, MI. Removed from ministry in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis in 1991 for "misconduct" with adults.  Accepted into the Archdiocese of Detroit by Archbishop Maida, who had been informed by the Crosiers of the  allegations. After the Dallas Bishops' conference in 2002, Vedro was removed from active ministry and sent to a Crosier facility. He left the order in 2008. Name added in 10/2014 to the St. Paul and Minneapolis list of those with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor occurring outside of the archdiocese. Died 4/13/2015. Included on the Crosier Order's list 12/6/2023, which notes that allegations received after Vedros' death could not be investigated.

Ordained for the diaconate in 2011. First assigned to Most Holy Trinity-St. Mary in Williamsburg, then to St. Sebastian's in Woodside in 12/2015. Arrested in 1/20/2021 after arranging to meet an undercover detective for sex, whom he thought was a 14-year-old boy. Vega met the "boy" on Grindr, described as a gay hook-up site. Suspended from ministry. Investigators found evidence that Vega enticed other boys for sex, identifying three of them. Pleaded guilty in 9/22. Sentenced in 3/23 to 16 years in prison.

Placed on leave in 4/2002 after a woman alleged he had abused her as a minor. He admitted sexual misconduct with the then 17-year-old girl in the late 1970s. Claim(s) against Veich were settled by the diocese as part of a massive $21M settlement in 10/2003 involving 40 plaintiffs and 16 priests.

Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list in 4/19. Resigned in 1973. Died in 1986.

Tertiary Capuchin. Colombian. Arrived in the U.S. in 2001. Suspended from ministry in the Diocese of Alexandria in 2/2016 pending the investigation of allegations of sexual misconduct with a female minor during an 8-year period, while assigned in the Baltimore archdiocese. Report in 2009 from a man who said he walked in on Velez and a teenage girl naked in bed. Velez was dog-sitting at the man's house while he was away. The man said Velez threatened harm to his family in Colombia if he told. Velez and the girl denied the allegations. Faculties removed in Baltimore in 3/2010. The girl became pregnant with Velez' child. He was transferred to the Diocese of Alexandria. In 2016 the girl told her parish priest in Baltimore that Velez was her child's father, and the investigation was reopened. Velez admitted the allegations. Criminally charged. Convicted in 2020 of sex abuse of a minor, sentenced to 25 years with all but 9 years suspended. On the Alexandria diocese's list 2/6/2019 (name spelled "Valez-Lopez.") Case sent to the Vatican. On Baltimore's list updated 7/23/2019. Included in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report. 

Priest of the Archeparchy of Kottayam, India, of the Syro-Malabar Church. Per a USCCB Advisory, Vellian was working in Kalamazoo on a temporary basis in 1973-1974. The Diocese said in Fall 2010 that it had recently received an allegation of sexual abuse of a female minor by Vellian. The Review Board concluded that the charges had merit. His accuser said she told the diocese in 2002, and that a priest walked in on them during an assault in 1973. Vellian had been in active ministry in various dioceses in the U.S. in the recent past. In 9/2011 he was said to be living in Kerala India's Kottayam district, in a Kaduthuruthi seminary. Investigated by the MI Attorney General. Charged in 5/2019 with rape of a 15-year-old girl in the early 1970s. The Attorney General was to seek extradition from India. Vellian died in India in 12/2022.

Supervised accused priest Denis Conte while at St. Anthony's in Revere. Included on a list of accused priests and religious posted by the Law Offices of Mitchell Garabedian on 01/19/11. Garabedian said he had settled at least one claim with the Boston Archdiocese regarding allegations against this individual. Retired in 1988. Died in 1/98, before completion of investigation. Name included on the Boston Archdiocese list released in 8/11.

Retired, in residence at St. Stephen's on Grand Island when placed on leave in 4/18 due to allegations of past child sex abuse, dating to 1980 at Our Lady of Pompei in Depew. Reportedly accused twice. Other assignments included parishes in Buffalo, Batavia, South Buffalo, Niagara Falls, a Pendleton nursing home and Boy Scouts chaplain and scoutmaster. Per the diocese in 6/18, the allegations against Venne were substantiated. To remain on leave pending determination by Vatican. Venne denied the allegations. Removed from diocesan payroll 5/1/20 in bankruptcy agreement. In 11/20 the Vatican suspended Venne for 7 years. Venne appealed the Vatican's decision. Refusing in 6/21 to join the diocese's monitoring program for credibly accused priests.

In 2016, an allegation of abuse by Ventline was brought to the Archdiocese of Detroit, which referred the complaint to the Oakland County prosecutor, conducted a canonical review, and restricted Ventline from public ministry. On 5/24/2019 Michigan AG Dana Nessel announced that Ventline 'is facing an administrative complaint and his license as a professional educationally limited counselor has been summarily suspended by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).' The Administrative Complaint alleged that Ventline had 'sexually assaulted' an 11-year-old boy three times in the church sacristy in 1989-1990. At the time, Ventline was pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Lake Orion MI. Ventline denied the allegations, saying he was the victim, and stated that 'a lawsuit will be filed' against the AG. On 6/10/2019, Ventline was included on the list of Clergy Credibly Accused of Abuse published by the Detroit archdiocese, which noted that he was restricted from public ministry and stated that he 'is prohibited from representing himself as a priest, wearing clerical attire, exercising any form of church ministry.' His license was revoked on 9/6/2019, after 'Ventline failed to file a formal response to the complaint,' and he was fined $5,000. On 9/30/2019, a news report stated that Ventline had been charged with indecent exposure in Bad Axe MI in early summer 2019. On 1/23/2020, Ventline pleaded no contest to the charge, which does not constitute an admission of guilt. Judge reportedly relied on court documents to enter a conviction on the record and sentenced Ventline to ten days in jail. Ventline stated that he completed nine days of community service instead. On 10/5/2020 the Michigan AG summarized the Ventline case in her second year update: 'Ventline faced three separate reports of sexual abuse of a minor. The statute of limitations expired on each report of abuse but LARA was able to remove the professional counseling license of Ventline to ensure that he would not be able to legally counsel children.' Ventline states that he had retired from counseling before the Administrative Complaint was filed on 5/15/2019.

Assigned to our Lady of Good Help Parish 1980-1985. Indicted 8/85 for sexually molesting two altar boys and one mentally handicapped youth 1981-1984. In 1986 the judge dismissed the charges concerning the two altar boys; the following day the judge found Ventre not guilty of abuse of the third boy in a non-jury trial. Returned to active assignment as chaplain at VA Hospital, and then another hospital. Retired 1/99. Died 12/27/99. On the diocese's list 7/1/19. It notes only that he was removed from ministry 7/5/85.

Accused in a 2/11 lawsuit of sexually abusing a girl in the late 1970s or early 1980s while assigned to St. Mark's in Phoenix. His accuser also claimed she was abused by Rev. James Bretl. Verhagen died 9/20/2001.

Named publicly as accused by the Congregation of Holy Cross on its list 6/12/2019, which notes an allegation in 2007 of abuse in IL in the 1970s. Permanently removed from ministry in 2001. Died 9/11/2012. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

A man filed suit in 5/03 alleging abuse by Verngren 1966-70, when Verngren was principal and head dorm resident at a Catholic school in Berkeley. The man said he told another staff member in 1969, that Verngren was temporarily removed, returning later to his position. Suit settled 9/03. Vergren died 12/12/03. On Santa Rosa diocese's list 1/12/19. Worked there at Mont LaSalle 1969-84 and at Justin Siena in 1984. Math tutor at St. Apollinaris 1990-2002. On Oakland diocese's list in 2019.

Named publicly as accused by the Salesians' St. Philip Province on its list as of 5/2021. Professed vows in 1936. Worked in NJ, NY, WV, MA, FL. Died in 2004. (No information as to when or where the abuse took place; placing Versaggi for now in the NY Archdiocese, where the Province is based.)

Named publicly as credibly accused by the Glenmary order on its list 10/11/2019. Joined Glenmary in 1960, left in 1975. Worked in GA, NC, OH.  No indication as to where or when alleged abuse occurred. Died in Cincinnati in 2003. On the Charlotte diocese's list 12/29/2019. It notes an allegation that Vertassich abused a minor in Connecticut in 1969, without further specifics. (Placing him in the Cincinnati archdiocese, where the Glenmary Home Missioners are based.) Included in 11/2020 on the Atlanta archdiocese's list. Included in the 3/24/2023 GA PAC Report.

Forced from the priesthood in 1975 after molesting children. Conviction in 1979 with suspended sentence and two years probation. Law license suspended in 1980 and revoked in 1982. Charged again in 1981 with three counts of sexual assault. Served 2 1/2 years of a 5- to 15-year sentence. Released from prison. Moved to OK in 1996; offended and was arrested. Fled to Canada. Abused two boys and was arrested. Sentenced to three years prison in 1996. Included on the Detroit archdiocese's list of credibly accused 6/10/2019.

Early priesthood was in AL, then preached retreats and missions throughout the Midwest. Was sent to the West Coast in 1950, learning Spanish and "moving among the little towns of N. CA and NV.  Assigned to a Mater Dolorosa Monastery in Sierra Madre, CA, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, 1953-1973.  Started a non-profit in 1963, establishing and supporting orphanages and schools in Baja CA. Died in 1977 in a truck crash in Baja CA; four orphan boys, who survived, were with him. Had been living in Mexico at the Rancho Nazareth boys' orphanage. Would travel to his nonprofit's headquarters in Petaluma CA once a week. Called the 'Magic Priest,' per his obituary, because he did "magic tricks to win the hearts of children in remote villages." Suspected of child sexual abuse in Detroit MI, in the 1940s. Accused in 1993 of abuse in the early 1960s. Several other allegations later received of abuse in the 1960s and early 1970s. Per the 2004 L.A. Archdiocesan report, there were seven accusers, of abuse occurring 1953-1973. Named in at least one suit in 2003. Added to the KC-St Joseph list; one substantiated allegation of abuse in the diocese noted. Included on the Springfield-Cape Girardeau list of accused 4/13/2021.

Placed on leave 7/2002 for allegations of misconduct with minors. A former altar boy filed suit on 7/20/2002. Another adult male came forward to allege abuse as an altar boy. One of the men said he was abused in the mid-1950s; the other alleged abuse in the 1970s. As of 9/11/2002, Child Protection Services found no evidence to support abuse allegations but the Diocese continued its investigation. Retired in 2005, still without privileges. On Leave of Absence until his death 7/18/2018. Included in 6/2019 on the diocese's list of credibly accused.

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 11/2018 of the sex abuse of a 10-year-old altar boy in 1979-1980, at Blessed Sacrament in Waterbury. Vichas' assignments included St. Joseph's in Waterbury 1952-1964, St. Casimir's in New Haven 1964-1965, St. Patrick's in Enfield 1965-1971, and Blessed Sacrament 1971-2001. Vichas retired in 2001 and died in 2008.

Placed on leave in 1991. Died in 1/2004. Accused in a 2005 lawsuit of fondling and raping a 12-year-old boy at St. Theresa's Elementary School in Carson City in about 1969. Vieages' accuser received a settlement. Included on the Reno diocese's list 4/5/2019. On the Las Vegas diocese's list 4/12/2019.

Named publicly as credibly accused by the Diocese on its list 11/16/2006. Died in 1989. A civil suit filed in 10/2008 alleged abuse of a 14-year-old boy, beginning in the 1980s. Personnel records released 2/16/2012 as part of bankruptcy process.

From Peru. Arrived in the U.S. in 2007. Ordained in 2012. Assigned to Our Lady of Mercy in Chicago, then to Mission San Juan Diego Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. Charged 2/24/2015 with felony possession and reproduction of child pornography. Removed from ministry pending outcome. Pleaded guilty. Sentenced in 4/2017 to four years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender. Given 460 days credit for time served on electric monitoring. Laicized in 5/2019. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report.

A 2/2003 civil RICO suit alleged that Villalobos abused a boy, ages 12-15, in 1980-1983, while at at St. Mary's in Stockton, and that then-Bishop Mahony and other diocese officials covered it up. Another suit filed in 11/2003 also claimed abuse at St. Mary's. Shortly before he died 12/31/1985, at age 38, Villalobos also allegedly attempted to abuse the plaintiff's brother. [Note: this may be two suits by same plaintiff.] Name included on list of claimed abusers was attached to the Stockton diocese's 5/9/2014 filing in bankruptcy court. Included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list 5/31/2019, noting allegations received 2004, 2014 and 2018 of abuse 1979-1983. A suit filed in 12/2019 claims abuse of a boy, age 16, in 1979.

In 2004 a man alleged abuse in the 1980s by Vincent. The alleged victim refused to cooperate with the Archdiocese, so no action. Placed on leave in 3/2005 after accused of abusing an Elder High School student in 1970. Denied all allegations. Returned to ministry 10/12/2005.

A man filed suit in 2003 alleging that he was abused as a boy by Vinyard 1978-79 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Calexico. Vinyard denied the allegations. Vinyard was referred to as the first actively serving priest in the diocese to be named in a lawsuit. Bishop accepted Vinyard's request for retirement status effective 1/1/04. San Diego personnel file released 10/25/10. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused.

Name included on Gallup diocese's list of credibly accused clerics in 1/2015. Gallup diocese filed for bankruptcy in 2013 after lawsuit claiming 57 victims. Viramontes was assigned to Aragon NM, Flagstaff, Winslow and Holbrook AZ. Died in 1997. On Las Cruces diocese's list 11/8/2018, which notes a report received in 2012 of an alleged incident in 1997.

Accused in 2006 of abuse in the Joliet diocese in 1980-1981. Not included on Joliet diocese's list of confirmed abusers released 4/09/2006. Civil suit filed 5/2006. Worked in Joliet, Rockford and Peoria dioceses. Joliet settled suit as of 9/2007. Left Joliet and incardinated into Peoria in 1988. Peoria diocese removed his privileges in 2006. Canonical process pending 4/2014. Joliet diocese agreed to release of personnel files 3/13 as part of settlement in Rudofski v Joliet & Bennett. Files released 4/30/2014. On Rockford diocese's list 11/14/2018. Noted to have been removed from ministry by Peoria and Rockford in 2/2006. Per Joliet list updated 12/2018, "on leave," canonical process still pending. On the Peoria diocese's list as of 2/2020. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report.

Accused of abuse of a minor 1947-53, per archdiocesan report addendum. Named in a civil suit. Died in 1964.

Named publicly as credibly accused by the Jesuits Northeast Province on its list 1/15/2019. It notes reports in 1980 and in the 2000s of abuse of minors 1960-1980. Worked at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester 1962-1965 and 1968-1969, and at Regis High School in NYC 1969-1980. Voelkle left the Jesuits in 1985 and died in 2016. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 7/2020 under the NY Child Victims act of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy in 1976. The boy was a Regis High School student. Accused in a 8/2021 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy, also a Regis High School student, age 16, in 9/1980. Another former Regis High School student filed suit in 11/2023, alleging abuse by Voelkle when he was age 19 in 1979 or 1980. 

Accused during an AG investigation in 3/2002 of repeated sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy in 1982 at Camp Don Bosco in NH. Voglio was a Salesian brother at the time and camp counselor. Later in 1982 Voglio wrote to the alleged victim from OH, saying that he was going on to become a priest. He was ordained for the Salesians in 1987 and worked in a Salesian High School and a parish in the NY archdiocese. Name included on the NY archdiocese's list 4/26/2019, noting that Voglio was removed from ministry and laicized. Per the Salesians list in 3/2020, he withdrew from the order in 1994. Reportedly in 3/2023, Voglio was running a charity that gave scholarships to Catholic schools for underprivileged children, and "mingles with children and teenagers who attend charity events." The charity was founded in 2000 by accused priest John Harrington.

Western Province Domincan. Former provincial. Prior of St. Albert's Priory, Chapel and Seminary in Oakland CA; Director Shrine of St. Jude in San Francisco. Taught high school in OR and in Los Angeles CA. Former pastor and prior of Holy Rosary parish in Portland OR. Accused in a 2/16 lawsuit of the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old altar boy in 1987. Plaintiff said he told other priests who told him he must obey Vogt. Vogt denied the abuse. The plaintiff dropped the suit in 5/17 after his brothers testified that they were altar boys with him, and that there was no abuse. Per the Domincans' list in 10/21, Vogt was falsely accused. He was returned to ministry in late 5/17.

Per diocese in 2002, there were two credible complaints against Vogt, one in 1993 and the other in 2002. Vogt, then 90, was living in a convent infirmary, reportedly frail and with poor memory. He retired in 1982. Four other men also alleged abuse. Vogt reportedly molested pre-teen boys in the 1950s-70s at St. Bridget's. Assigned to a life of prayer and penance. Died 10/16/06. Lawsuit filed in 6/19 claimed sexual abuse of a boy by Vogt over a two-year period, beginning when the boy was age 5. The abuse allegedly occurred at the Catholic Charities CYO swimming pool and at the boy's home. Suit filed in 6/19 alleged abuse of a boy, beginning when he was age 5 in the late 1960s. Four more suits filed 8/14/19, all under the NY Child Victims Act. Abuse spanned 1955-80, of boys ages 5-11. Seven new suits in 8/20. By then, at least 46 alleged Vogt victims. (Brother of Msgr. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 7/20 of sexually abusing a child, beginning when the child was age 8 in 1975 and Vogt was assigned to Good Shepherd in Henrietta. Died 6/27/96. (Brother of Msgr. Joseph Vogt and accused priest Francis H. Vogt.)

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 1/20 under the NY Child Victims Act of abusing a boy, beginning when the boy was age 10 in 1989 at St. Paul of the Cross in Honeoye Falls. The abuse allegedly continued for four years. Another alleged victim has reportedly also come forward. Vogt died 4/29/17 at age 91.

Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list in 2/19. Permanently removed 6/28/04. Died 12/4/12.

Accused by two people in 3/02. Both said they had previously reported abuse to the diocese, but nothing was done. One said he reported abuse when it occurred and again in 1991. Another said he reported it in 1994. Vollmer still active until 2002. He was identified as Priest D in the 1/03 Grand Jury report. He admitted to at least 12 victims, according to the report. Vollmer would supply wine, marijuana and porn videos. Laicized 6/16/04. Died in 2016. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/19 of abusing a 16-year-old parishioner of St. Joseph's in Ronkonkoma in 1975. Included on the diocese's list of accused in 3/21.

Founder and long-time director of Camp Ondessonk. Accused of abusing boys and girls, spanning most of his career. Per the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report, Vonnahmen sexually abused as many as 23 children 1956-1973. Abuse involved "fondling and kissing to violent oral and anal sex." In 1968 or 1969 fellow priests reported child sex abuse by Vonnahmen at Camp Ondessonk to the bishop, to no avail. Further reports in 1976 or 1977, no action. Investigated by the Diocese in 1985 - removed from the camp, kept in parish ministry. Removed from active ministry without privileges in 1993. Named in civil suits in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Laicization announced in 4/2007. In 10/2013 was in charge of San Damiano Shrine in southern IL and was running ads for the Shrine in the archdiocesan newspaper. Accused in new lawsuit 3/17/2014 of abuse of a child at camp in 1970 and 1971. Died 5/8/2016, at a Highland IL nursing home. On diocese's list 12/19/2018. Subject of settlement(s), per Attorney Garabedian in 4/2022.

Named publicly as accused on the Los Angeles archdiocese's updated list 12/6/2018. Report in 2013 of incidents 1966-1970. Per his obituary, Vorisek was a campus minister at U.C. Santa Barbara (Isla Vista) 1968-1976. He died 5/18/2011. On Baltimore archdiocese's list 4/24/2019, where he was assigned to St. Peter's Minor Seminary 1957-1968. On the Paulists' list 3/8/2019. It notes the report in Los Angeles in 2013 of abuse in 1970. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report.

Died in 1998. One of ten brothers and two laymen accused by more than 30 men in a 5/2013 civil case of abuse at three Chicago schools run by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North American Province. Order agreed to massive $16.5M settlement in 5/2013 with 400 plaintiffs claiming abuse by multiple order priests and brothers. Included in the 5/23/2023 IL Attorney General's Report. 

Accused 9/18/03 by a woman at a state SOL hearing of sexually abusing her brother at age 14 in the early 1970s. The brother denied the allegation. Vosen was removed. The Diocesan Review Board assessed at least three allegations and unanimously recommended leave 2/15/04. In 5/04 Vosen sued a man who alleged fondling and anal rape at age 11-12 by Vosen in 1989-91. A jury rejected the defamation claim 8/4/05; found abuse claim substantiated. Church tribunal of three judges ruled against Vosen in 8/07. Vosen appealed to Vatican's Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. The CDF upheld the diocese's decision, as announced 7/16/15. Vosen died in 2021.

Ordained for the Diocese of Cleveland. Transferred to AZ in about 1986. Mesa High School teacher. Convicted in 1990; sentenced to one year in jail for trying to molest a two-year-old boy. Lifetime probation. Teaching certificate was to have been revoked. Shown as "absent on leave" from Cleveland in the 1988 Catholic Directory. Died in 12/10. Included on the Cleveland diocese's list of credibly accused 6/21/19.
