Fr. January Padlo
Named publicly as credibly accused on the Our Lady of Guadalupe Province Franciscans' list as of 1/2024. Member of the Assumption Province. (Placing Padlo for now in the Milwaukee archdiocese, where the Province is based.) Worked in Cedar Lake IN, Toledo OH, Canton MA, Saginaw MI, Grand Rapids MI, Perrysburg OH. Died in 1976, age 60. Included in the MI Attorney General's 12/15/2025 Diocese of Grand Rapids Report. A woman told the Diocese of Kalamazoo in 1998 that when she was a fourth-grader at St. Margaret Parish School (then part of the Grand Rapids diocese) in 1961-1962, Padlo put his hand up her blouse. In 2003 a man reported to the police that he was sexually abused by Padlo as a child in the early 1960s, when Padlo was assigned to St. Michael's in Muskegon. He said one of his siblings remembered Padlo trying to kiss one of the girls. Another woman alleged that Padlo molested little girls at St. Mary's in Lowell MI. She said that he would invite girls as young as 7 or 8 to help clean the rectory, then put his hands up their dresses. In 2019 another woman told the Attorney General's office that when she was a St. Margaret's student in the late 1950s-early 1960s, ages 10-12, she was molested by Padlo. In 2020 a woman reported that Padlo would grope her and other children when she was ages 8-12, and that he once digitally penetrated her. Included in the MI Attorney General's 6/25/2026 Diocese of Saginaw Report, which reveals that a woman reported in 2004 that Padlo sexually abused her at age 8 or 9 in the 1950s. She said that she and some other girls were in a field when Padlo started to fondle her and more. The other girls ran away. When she screamed one of the girls returned and kicked Padlo in the head, causing his glassed to fly off. She got out from under him and the two girls then ran away. She told her mother that night, who didn't believe her.

Fr. Theophilus Palukaitis/Fr. Theo Palis
From Lithuania. Ordained in Germany in 1945. Arrived in the U.S. from a concentration camp after WWII. Spent summer 1951 in the Diocese of Grand Rapids. By 1952 was assigned in the Archdiocese of Portland OR, then by 1953 he was active in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, followed by the Diocese of Oakland CA. Changed his name to Fr. Theo Palis. Pastor for 31 years of of Our Lady Queen of the World in Bay Point CA. Retired in 2006. Died in 2013 in Oakland. Named publicly as accused in the MI Attorney General's 12/15/2025 Report, as Fr. Theophilus Palukaitis. In 1995 a woman reported to the Grand Rapids Diocese that when she was age 8 in summer 1951, she was molested by Palukaitis. She said she told her mother, who called her a liar. She said that later in life her mother told her that "numerous girls were molested by this man but the parents kept it quiet."
Fr. Daniel J. Palys
Fr. Gary William Pamment
Named publicly as accused by in the MI Attorney General's 5/22/24 Kalamazoo report. In 1999 the parents of a nine-year-old boy told the bishop they were concerned about Pamment's behavior toward their son. In letters to the parents 1997-1999, he would say, for example, "I love [your boy] so much and enjoy his company" and "Special hugs, kisses and caresses for my 'little pal." Pamment died 6/10/2008. In 2014 the Diocese received an allegation that Pamment sexually abused a young altar boy at St. Mary's Visitation Church in the 1980s, beginning shortly after the boy's first communion and confession. The abuse allegedly included anal and oral rape. The Review Board determined in 2015 that there was not enough evidence to find the allegation credible. The Diocese offered to investigate the matter further.

In 2021 a woman reported to the Berks County D.A. that when she was a student at Reading Central Catholic High School 1996-1998, Paul groomed her and abused her sexually. Paul was a lay teacher at the school, and later entered the convent. The D.A. investigated; no charges were filed, possibly due to the statute of limitations. Placed on leave in 2000 without privileges after the Archdiocese substantiated claims that he had engaged in sexual misconduct. The Archdiocese had also investigated in 1994 but could not substantiate an allegation of sexual abuse in the 1970s. In 2002 a man said he met Pavlik in Japan in 1970 when he was 17. When he returned to the states at age 18 and visited Pavlik in St. Louis, Pavlik tried to molest him at a rectory until the man threatened to get a knife and use it on the priest. Pavlik was named in an 8/2005 civil suit. Included on the Archdiocese's 7/26/2019 list of credibly accused. Died in 2015.

Died unexpectedly at age 53 on 4/30/1983. Accused in a 2008 lawsuit in NC of sexually abusing an altar boy in the late 1970s. The boy, age 15 or 16, was from Philadelphia, and said Fr. John McCole abused him there then took him to Ashville, NC where Pechulis and McCole forced the boy to participate in group oral sex while a third man watched. The suit also alleged that Cardinal Krol was told of the abuse but dismissed the allegations saying "That's just how men behave with each other." The Charlotte diocese found the allegations credible in 2008. The suit was dismissed in 2010. Included on the Charlotte diocese's list 12/29/2019 list of credibly accused. Added to the Raleigh diocese's list in 3/2021.

Per the MI Attorney General's 10/2022 report, a man reported to the diocese in 2005 that he and a friend were sexually abused over two years, at ages 16 or 17, by Pelletier in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Alpha MI. He said the priest would take them fishing and hunting and give them alcohol and money. Police caught the boys in a cabin drinking beer with two girls. When questioned they told the police Pelletier had given them the beer, but said no when asked if the priest had done anything to them. Pelletier was soon removed from his parish. Pelletier's personnel file shows "moral concerns" and "unpriestly conduct" in 1950 and concerns in 1956 about drinking and association with minors. Went on leave in 1960 and in 1965. Sent to Jemez Springs NM in 1961, where there was a treatment center for troubled priests. There was a warrant for his arrest in Jemez Springs in 1962 for contributing to the deliquency of a minor. Assigned by 1971 to Bishop Noa Home and as pastor of a Chasselle parish. Died in 1973.

Pastor for 25 years at Assumption of the BVM. Suspended 7/5/2019 after the Archdiocese found an allegation of sexual abuse of a boy decades prior had "a semblance of truth." Denied the allegation. Allegedly would invite altar boys to a lake house, wrestle with them in the water, sometimes groping them. A second former altar boy came forward after Perrone's removal alleging the priest rubbed his genitals in 1981. Case sent to the Vatican; declined to pursue. Perrone was a co-founder in 2002 of Opus Bono Sacerdotii, a group formed to support priests accused of abuse. A woman whose father co-founded Opus Bono spoke out about his alleged abuse of boys, and said Perrone gave her alcohol in the rectory beginning when she was age 12. He sued her for defamation. His parishioners sued the archdiocese in 2/2020, claiming it "fabricated" a rape charge against Perrone. In 7/2020 an arbitration panel found that Perrone was the target of defamation; he was awarded $125K. In 9/2020 he also sued Msgr. Michael Bugarin.

Fr. Francis Andrew Perry, III
"Drew." Ordained at age 53 in 1998. Placed on leave in 4/2002 for lying on application, after the Diocese learned that he had been accused of the sexual abuse of a 4-year-old female relative when he was a teenager in 1961. In 1987 Perry was criminally charged in FL with lewd conduct with a boy; Perry was an adolescent psychiatric counselor at Rivendell in Vero Beach, and the boy was a patient. The boy told his mother about the incident and she called the Sheriff's Department. A Sheriff's detective recorded a telephone conversation with the boy and Perry in which Perry made self-incriminating statements. The charges were dropped in 1988 just before trial when the boy refused to testify. Perry admitted to abusing the girl. He appealed to the Vatican for review of his case. Name was included on the Diocese's list in 10/2018.
Fr. James Person
Fr. Stephen B. Perzan
The Archdiocese received two allegations of abuse by Perzan in Philadelphia at St. Gabriel's Hall for delinquent boys: one allegation in 2004 about abuse in 1991, and another allegation in 2005 about abuse in 1994-1995. The first alleged abuse in Philadelphia occurred during a time when Perzan is not indexed in the Official Catholic Directory, and the second alleged abuse in Philadelphia occurred when he was listed in the Directory as assigned to a parish in New Mexico. What's more, the report refers to a 1998 letter from a pastor, complaining about Perzan's behavior with children. The Directory does not list Perzan at the parish in question, but at a different parish. At the beginning of his career, Perzan had three one-year parish assignments, and his move to New Mexico coincides with a slight change in the Directory's spelling of his name. In 2003, with the first grand jury in session, Perzan started a two-year parish assignment in Puerto Rico. This is an extremely unusual Directory record and would be consistent with problems earlier and more numerous than those chronicled in the 2011 grand jury report. Yet the review board deemed the two known allegations unsubstantiated, and Perzan was still in ministry as of 2/12/2011.

One of 21 priests placed on administrative leave by the Philadelphia Archdiocese on 3/7/2011, pending the investigation of credible allegations involving sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors. Peterson's last assignment was as pastor at St. Maria Goretti Parish in Hatfield. He spent much of his career at Catholic schools in the Philadelphia area. Found suitable for ministry on 7/6/2012 after the Review Board determined that misconduct claims against him were unsubstantiated.

Accused in a 12/6/2019 lawsuit of sexually abusing a girl, beginning when the girl was age 10 in 1963, at St. Joseph's parish school in Middletown NY, and continuing until 1967. Peterson denied the allegation. The complaint states that she abused the girl by "hugging her; kissing her; massaging her; caressing her; and caressing and touching her breasts and genitals; stroked her thighs, reaching up her uniform and with her hand tried to masturbate her on multiple occasions." Previously, Peterson taught at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle NY 1962-1964. Peterson was principal of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle NY 1967-1974, and was also a Superior of Ursuline communities, member of the Ursuline leadership council, board member, and licensed social worker at hospitals. Fr. Anthony Petrusic
Retired in 1994 from the Omaha archdiocese. Petrusic was working as a part-time priest in FL when he was placed on leave in 2002 after an allegation that he had sexually abused a teenage boy in Omaha in the 1970s. His accuser said Petrusic would take nude photos of him when he was showering or changing at a lake cabin, and grope him. A second man also made allegations of abuse during the same time period. Placed on permanent leave in 8/2002. Died in 2/2010. Included on the Omaha archdiocese's list of credibly accused 11/30/2018. Per the NE Attorney General's report in 11/2021, one of the two victims reported his abuse to the Archdiocese in 1987, and from 1993 to 1995 the Archdiocese received three anonymous letters, the senders alleging sexual abuse as minors by Petrusic. After the 1987 allegation, Petrusic was sent to MA for treatment, then reassigned to an Omaha parish.

Fr. Alfred N. Pettinger
Pettinger was named publicly in the NE Attorney General's report released in 11/2021. There are two known victims, both 13-year-old girls. The incidents occurred 1986-1988 and 1990, with reports to the Diocese in 1987 and 1989. Pettinger was moved to another parish after the earliest report of his behavior, after which the second girl was victimized. He focused obsessively on each girl, with phone calls and letters, inappropriately discussing sexual matters with them and emotional manipulation. He provided alcohol to one of the girls and gave the other a pornographic magazine. Pettinger was sent to treatment in 1989, after the second victim came forward. He was returned to ministry in 1990 and discovered in 1995 to have an addiction to pornography. He would paste photos of the faces of his former female middle school students on the faces of adult women in pornographic magazines. Pettinger was suspended in 1996, his faculties removed.

Fr. Mario Pezzotti
From Italy. Accused of molesting students at Xaverian Missionary Faith High School in Holliston MA beginning in 1959 and until the early 1970s. Former students came forward with allegations in 1993. Pezzotti was in Brazil in 1993, where he had been working in the Amazon since the early 1970s with Kayapo Indian children and supervising priests. He apologized to a MA victim in a note sometime before he came forward in 1993. A civil suit was filed in 1993. The Order admitted to knowledge of two other claims. In 2002 a woman said she also had been molested by Pezzotti in the early 1970s. Pezzotti returned to Italy in 2003, and went again to Brazil in 2008. This stay was shortened when the victim to whom Pezzotti had apologized saw him with Kayapo children in an internet photo and complained to the Xaverians. Pezzotti was known in 2010 to be living and working at Xaverian headquarters in Parma, Italy.

Fr. James Pfeiffer
Fr. Michael L. Pfleger
Pastor of St. Sabina's on Chicago's south side from 1981. Prominent anti-violence and social justice advocate. Pfleger adopted an 8-year-old boy in 1981, adopted a second boy in 1992, and became a foster father to a boy in 1997. He was suspended in 1/2021 due to an allegation that he sexually abused a boy over 40 years prior. The accuser's brother soon also said the priest abused him as a boy. The brothers said the abuse occurred for years, starting when they were ages 12 and 13 in the 1970s and Pfleger was a seminarian and their choir director at Precious Blood parish. In 3/2021 a third man said Pfleger made an unwanted sexual advance toward him when the man was 18 in 1979. Pfleger "strongly denied" all accusations. Pfleger wrote to the Auburn Gresham community that he would "seek other ways...to minister" to them. In 3/2021 a Chicago Police detective reportedly said that a fourth person had come forward with allegations against Pfleger. In 6/2021 Pfleger was reinstated after the Review Board said in 5/2021 that there was "insufficient reason to suspect.... Pfleger is guilty... ." He was again suspended in 10/2022 due to a new allegation of abuse of a boy in the late 1980s. Pfleger denied the allegation. In 12/2022 he was reinstated after the Review Board "found no reason to suspect" that he was guilty. In 7/2026 an additional allegation surfaced; a woman reported that she was sexually abused by Pfleger when she was a St. Sabina grade school student some time during 1993-1995. Pfleger strongly denied the allegation. He was placed on leave during the investigation. Once again, in 8/2026, the Archdiocese found "no reason to believe Father Pfleger is guilty" and he was reinstated.

Fr. Anthony J. Polakowski
Included in the MI Attorney General's 10/2022 report. In 1/2004 a woman told the Diocese that Polakowski sexually abused her for a year when she was in 6th grade. She said he would host parties in the rectory basement and supply youth with marijuana and alcohol. There was also a "hidden" room made into a "firepit" and another with a mattress, found by Chancellor Fr. Alexander Sample after he met with the woman. Polakowski had a "playboy" reputation with such "toys" as a Corvette, snowmobile and horses. A police report in 1976 alleges that Polakowski gave alcohol to minors, and mentions rumors of parties in the rectory. He died in 1978 after crashing his car into another, killing two women and critically injuring a 16-year-old boy, who was in his car. In 4/2018 a man reported that a priest sexually abused him as a teenager in the mid-1970s. Based on the man's description, the Vicar for Clergy stated the priest was likely Polakowski. In 3/2006 a woman claimed Polakowski abused her in 1976-1977 at ages 15-16, and that he also abused her brother. She told a teacher about her brother's abuse, and Polakowski was transferred.

One of six priests removed from active ministry in 6/2002 for credible accounts of sexually abusing minors. The allegations were made in 2002. Pratt was vice chancellor for the diocese and secretary for Bishop Hubbard 1979-1990. No criminal charges were filed due to the statute of limitations. Referred to as a "former priest" in a 6/2004 report on an investigation of Bishop Hubbard. Included on the Diocese's list of accused in 11/2015. In 6/2019 a 49-year-old man alleged publicly that he was sexually abused beginning in 1980 at age 11 and throughout his teen years by Pratt. He said Pratt made him and another boy engage in sex acts with each other, while he watched. He also claimed that at age 16 he told Bishop Hubbard, and that Hubbard told him that if he ever said anything to anyone again about it he would have him arrested. The man filed a lawsuit in 8/2019. It settled in 10/2025 for $8M, just before trial.

First named publicly as accused on the Las Cruces diocese's list 11/8/2018. It notes a report received in 1993 of abuse in 1957. Pudei was assigned to St. Edward's School in Carlsbad 1956-1957. She died in 1987. (News accounts mistakenly categorize Pudei as a priest - the diocese's list does not indicate that Pudei was a nun.) Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list in 2/2024.
Br. George Puello
From Colombia. Professed vows as a Salesian brother in 1967. Three men filed suit in 9/2002 alleging abuse by Puello when they were students at Salesian Jr. Seminary in Goshen, NY 1969-1973. One man said he told the seminary director (who went on to become an Auxiliary Bishop in Boston); the director dismissed the victim from the seminary, saying he was "not priest material." Per the suit, others at the seminary knew what was going on and there were other abusers at the school. Puello left the order at some point. He was ery active for decades in the Westchester County, NY theater community, including with youth. Died 8/21/2019. Included in 3/2020 on the Salesians list of credibly accused. It notes that Puello left the order in 1971.
