Accused in a 10/24/2019 lawsuit against the Franciscans' Holy Name Province and the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor. Per the suit, Bailey sexually abused a boy, about age 4, in 1984. Bailey was a St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick NY chaplain. He would allegedly pick the boy up from his school, Our Lady Queen of Peace, in West Milford and spend the day with him at the hospital. The abuse allegedly included oral sex and anal rape, and took place at the hospital facility, in the chapel and in Bailey's residence at the hospital. Bailey referred to the boy as his grandson.
Died 1/4/2019. Named in a lawsuit filed in 8/2019 as having sexually abused a male student in the early to mid-1970s at St. Francis DeSales High School in Lockport, NY. Barkenquest's accuser claims he told a school administrator at the time, but nothing was done. Worked in the Diocese of Lansing MI 1991-2013. Per the MI Attorney General's Lansing report, in 2018 a man reported that Barkenquest abused him while assigned to St. Rita's in Clarklake, MI beginning when the man was a 14-year-old boy and through adulthood. The man emailed the A.G.'s tipline in 4/2020, reporting that Barkenquest fondled him from age 13-23. Further, the man said he had learning and other cognitive disabilities, and that he reported the abuse in 12/2018 and didn't know if anything was done. The in 3/2020 the diocese deemed the allegation credible and added Barkenquest's name to its list.
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a boy 1974-78, beginning when the boy was age 12 and Barrett was a lay member of Opus Dei. Per the lawsuit, the boy was also abused by then-Fr. Theodore McCarrick. Barrett was ordained by Pope John Paul II in Rome in 1985. He worked in Rome and Madrid, then in Houston TX for 25 years, followed by Los Angeles CA 2013-16. In 2016 he was named pastor of St. Agnes in New York City.
Ordained for the Diocese of Syracuse. Began work in the Diocese of Buffalo in the mid-1970s, where he was incardinated in 1982. Died 8/27/13. In 2018 a man reported to the diocese inappropriate sexual contact as a boy by Bartnik while "wrestling." The boy and his family were St. John Cantius (a/k/a Kanty) in Buffalo. The man said his family reported the abuse just after it occurred and that they were then ostracized from the parish. A lawsuit was filed in 2019 under the NY Child Victims Act that Bartnik sexually abused a child, age 12 or 13, around 1977 at St. John Kanty in Buffalo.

Placed on leave in 9/21 pending the investigation of an accusation of abuse reportedly discovered in documents filed in the diocese's bankruptcy case. Age 82 and retired when suspended. Beiter denied the accusation. He died 6/13/22. On 6/23/22 the diocese announced that Beiter was posthumously exonerated after its review board deemed the accusation unsubstantiated.
Monsignor. Reportedly in 4/19, in 1987 parish employees told the administrator of St. Teresa's in South Buffalo that they found child pornography in Berg's room. Berg was the parish pastor. The administrator said multiple people, including BIshop Head, were notified. Berg was kept in ministry. He died 4/16/09.
Died at age 53 in 3/02. In 11/08 a 21-year-old man filed suit against the bishop and diocese, alleging that Bonin sexually abused him weekly 1998-2001, when the man was ages 9-12. The man first made his allegations known in 2007. A second person also alleged abuse. In 4/09 the NY Supreme Court denied the diocese's motion to dismiss. Diocese included Bonin's name on 6/7/12 list; complaint noted to have been received after his death.

Xaverians settled for $75K in the early 2000s with a man alleging sexual abuse by Br. Romanus over a 4-year period in the 1960s, when the man was a 10- to 13-year-old boy. Abuse reportedly occurred in a classroom closet at Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School where Br. Romanus worked, in bathhouse locker rooms and swimming pool changing rooms, and under the Coney Island boardwalk. Died 6/30/1992. On the Xaverians' list 7/12/2019. On the Archdiocese of Baltimore's list 7/23/2019. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report.
Arrested on 8/31/2023, charged with forcibly touching a teenage girl 2019-2021, beginning when she was age 14. Administrator for four parishes when charged. Suspended.

Accused in a lawsuit filed 6/28/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing an altar boy at St. John of God church in 1980-1983, beginning when the boy was age 10. Butler was a seminarian at the time of the alleged abuse. Placed on leave. Priest reportedly denies the abuse.
"Frank." Named publicly as credibly accused by the Columbans U.S. Province on its list in 2/22. Noted to have multiple allegations of abuse, occurring in 1973. Per the Official Catholic Directory Byrne was at that time assigned to the St. Columban Retreat House in Derby, NY. He left the community and ministry in 1976 and died in 2011.
Accused in a lawsuit filed 3/22/2022 of sexually abusing a girl from about 1960-1966, beginning when she was age 10 and a student at St. Mary's in Long Island City, NY. Campbell was the parish pastor. Per the suit, the abuse began when the girl's father was terminally ill and Campbell was providing spiritual guidance and financial support to her mother. The plaintiff alleges that the nuns and, housekeeper and other priests at the parish knew she was spending inordinate amounts of time with Campbell and enabled it. Further, she told a priest in confession during her freshman year of high school about the abuse, and his response was that she was shameful to lie about Campbell and that she would go to hell. Campbell remained at St. Mary's until his death in 1968.

Accused in a 6/30/20 lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act of abusing a minor, ages 10-14, at St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh. The plaintiff also accused Rev. John J. Fallon. Accused in a suit filed 4/1/21 of abusing a boy in 1969, along with Rev. Roland St. Pierre. The abuse allegedly took place in a wooded area and included sodomy. The priests are said to have taken turns abusing the boy, while the other watched.

A woman reportedly told the diocese in 2018 that Cotter sexually abused her in the 1950s and 1960s, when she was ages 7-19 and Cotter was pastor of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Tonawanda. Cotter died 5/17/80.

Accused in a lawsuit filed in July 2021 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing an altar boy while assigned to Sacred Heart in West Brighton, beginning in 1978 when the boy was age 11. Per the alleged victim, Curley also abused other boys. Curley retired in 2015.

Accused in a lawsuit filed 7/26/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a 15-year-old in 1974. Per the diocese, Daley maintained his innocence.
Retired and living at Holy Trinity in Whitestone when accused in a lawsuit filed in summer 2021 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a child, age 8, over 30 years previously, while assigned to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Long Island City.

Monsignor. A news outlet reported in 4/19 that leaked documents showed that a woman reported to the diocese in 2018 that Dietzel sexually abused her when she was ages 3-12. Dietzel was pastor of St. John Vianney in Orchard Park 1958 until his death in 1989.
Accused in a lawsuit filed by a man 5/24/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of encouraging him 1994-98 as an elementary school boy to engage in sexual acts with four girls "provided" by Dobson and two other priests, Revs. Adolph Kowalczyk and Mieczyslaw "Matt" Nycz. Per the suit, the man feared the priests secretly filmed them. He was a student at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Orchard park. Dobson was retired and assisting in parishes when placed on leave due to the allegations.The three priests denied "ever committing any acts of abuse." In 10/21 the diocese's review board determined that the allegations against Dobson, Kowalczyk and Nycz were unsubstantiated. All three were reinstated to ministry.

In 2018 a man reported to the diocese that Donnelly abused him when he was an altar boy, age 12, in the early 1970s at St. Monica's. Donnelly was pastor emeritus of St. Monica's in the early 1970s.
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing an altar boy, age 14, in 1987 while assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lakeview. He was kept in ministry until suspended in 9/21 pending the investigation of accusation(s) of abuse reportedly discovered in documents filed in the diocese's bankruptcy case. Donohue denied the allegations and his faculties were restored in 7/22. Reportedly, the alleged victim's attorneys would not allow the diocese's investigator to interview him. At the time of his reinstatement, the diocese said that Donohue was retired and did not have a parish or ministerial office assignment.
Sister Mary Andrew a/k/a Sister Frances Doyle. Accused of sexual abuse of at least two girls at Notre Dame School in Manhattan in the mid-1940s. School was run by the Society of St. Ursula; Sr. Mary Andrew was the principal. One accuser said she was abused as a 14-year-old sophomore. She went on to become a nun but left the order years later. The school and the order reportedly refused to help her as a survivor. Andrew died 11/29/06.

Removed from his parish in 1993 after covering up for young men who had stolen church funds, and after a housekeeper found handcuffs and pornography in the rectory. Sent to residential treatment. Arrested in 2/1996; sentenced to six months in prison and five years probation in 5/1997 for abusing a 31-year-old mentally disabled man. On restrictions for prior sexual abuse allegations. Many other complaints after his arrest. Charged in 1999 with violating probation by having contact with a 16-year-old boy; sentenced to 1-3 years in prison. Released from prison in 2002. Involuntarily laicized per diocese 6/7/2012. Reported in 6/2018 to be a registered sex offender living in Bushnell FL. Accused in a suit filed in 8/2019 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexual abuse while assigned to St. Mary's in Danville. Six more suits were filed in 12/2016 claiming abuse of boys at the parish. Another suit was to be filed with an allegation that Emo molested a minor in the 1950s while in seminary. By 8/2020, Emo was named in 12 CVA lawsuits. New suit in 8/2020 claims abuse in 1968 of a boy, age 17. The diocese's list in 8/2022 shows Emo to be deceased.
Arrested in 9/1985 on charges of mailing child pornography, involving photos of a boy under age 14, to a photo lab for developing. Other photos of boys from the town where Fallon was assigned were found at the rectory. Pleaded guilty in 12/1985; sentenced to 5 years probation, including 6 months of psychiatric therapy. Sent to Via Coeli in Jemez Springs NM. Lived in NM "on sick leave" 1989-2000. Moved to a Syracuse retirement home; remained inactive. Syracuse diocese said it had no knowledge of his past. Died 2/5/2005. On Ogdensburg diocese's list 11/13/2018. Named in 8/2019 lawsuit(s) under the NY Child Victims Act. By 4/2021 there were eight suits naming Fallon. Included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's list 5/19/2021.
Left the priesthood sometime after 2006. Assignments included parishes in Carmel, Yorktown, Mount Kisco and Hopewell Junction. Arrested in 9/2015 on charges related to sexually abusing a 50-year-old brain-injured woman who was unable to consent. The abuse occurred on multiple occasions at a facility in Brewster for those with cerebral palsey and brain injuries, where Faraone worked. His victim had the mental capacity of a 12-year-old. Farone was convicted in 2016, and served a one-year jail sentence. In 12/2017, Faraone was a high-risk registered sex offender on probation and living in Brewster, and the facility faced a lawsuit. Accused in a lawsuit in 2020 of sexually abusing a minor 1973-1976 at St. Francis of Assisi in Mount Kisco NY.

In 2018 the diocese reviewed an allegation from a woman that Fox sexually abused her when she was age 15. Per Fox's obituary, he resigned in 1992 from St. Vincent in Attica, where he had been pastor since 1980, for medical reasons. He was then in residence at St. Pius X in Getzville and retired in 1997. He died 5/14/15.
Given name Paul Francis Reding. Accused in a lawsuit(s) in 2020 under the NY Child Victims Act of the sexual abuse of a minor(s). Per his obituary, Reding had assignments in NY City, Asheville NC, St. Petersburg FL, Brazil, Denver CO, Croghan NY, East Rutherford NJ, Allegany NY and Obernburg NY. He died 1/4/2000.
Accused in a 2020 lawsuit(s) of the sexual abuse of a minor(s). Per his obituary, Richard was assigned to a St. Mary's in Potsdam after ordination until 1951 when he became an Army chaplain. Worked in Korea 1952-53, Vietnam 1968-69, and in Europe, South America and Panama. Returned to the Ogdensburg diocese, assigned 1972-1996 to Sacred Heart, then chaplain of Mater Dei College and later of St. Joseph's Home. He died 2/14/07.

Accused in lawsuits filed in 2019 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing three children. One claims abuse of a 10-year-old in 1967 and the other claims abuse 1970-72 of a child starting when they were age 7. The abuse allegedly occurred while Doyle was pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Orchard Park. Doyle died in 1977. A woman said she told the diocese in 2018 that Doyle sexually abused her as a fifth-grader in the 1960s at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Doyle's name was added to the diocese's list of credibly accused.
Gaskin's name is included in 10/2021 on the Franciscans' Holy Name Province's list of those with substantiated allegations against them of child sexual abuse. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 5/20 of sexually abusing an altar boy, ages 8-9, during 1992-93, at St. Joseph's in Yonkers. Per the suit, Carroll would keep the boy after mass and sexually abuse him while the boy's family waited for him in the church. Carroll died in 2002.
Dates of alleged abuse range from 1949 to 1987. Furfaro retired in 1991. In 1998 Furfaro admitted abusing a 19-year-old youth whom he counseled after death of the young man's sister. Settled for about $75K in 1999. Seven men and boys filed suit in 4/2003. He was permanently removed from active ministry in 6/2003. No criminal prosecution due to the statute of limitations. Died 3/29/2010 at age 93. Included on the diocese's list 12/3/2018. Named in three claims as of 2/14/2020 under the NY Child Victims Act.

in In a civil suit filed 10/2003, 27 victims alleged sexual abuse by 24 priests, including Gallo. One plaintiff said Gallo abused him around 1966. Gallo denied it. Gallo was the only priest of the 24 who had an active parish assignment at the time. In 3/2004, the Diocese announced that the review board found the allegations against Gallo unsubstantiated, and he was allowed to continue in ministry. Per the Diocese's list in 2/2019, Gallo was permanently removed from ministry 6/26/2018. He was accused in a claim settled in 2021 in the mid-six figures of sexually abusing a boy, ages 9-10, 1983-1985, while assigned to Blessed Sacrament in Brooklyn. Died 6/6/2023.
Ordained for the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales; taught high school in Philadelphia. Incardinated in 1983 into the NY archdiocese. Placed on leave in 8/2019 due to an allegation of 'sexual misconduct.' Accused in a lawsuit filed in 7/2021 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a boy beginning when the boy was age 15, from 1993 through 1998. The boy was a student at St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, where Garisto was reportedly a biology teacher in the late 1980s and 1990, and a vice-principal and academic dean 1996-1998. Garisto's accuser claims that the priest started grooming him when he was in grade school and that when he left the high school after sophomore year, Garisto pursued him at his father's house in PA. Arrested 1/27/2022 on charges of sexually abusing a boy in the Philadelphia area 1995-2002, beginning when the boy was age 10. Garisto owned a home in Fishtown at the time in question. In 3/2022 the charges were withdrawn due to the statute of limitations. Arrested again in Philadelphia 5/4/2022, charged with the sexual abuse of a boy starting when the boy was a 15-year-old altar server at St. Peter's in Poughkeepsie in 2006, and ending in 2010. Family filed suit against the NY Archdiocese. Pleaded no contest in 6/2023. Sentenced 11/6/2023 to 11 and a half months to 23 months in prison and 4 years' probation.

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 5/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a 9-year-old boy in 1976-77 at St. Athanasius in the Bronx. Gigante's accuser claims the priest forced him to perform oral sex during bible study. Accused in another 2021 lawsuit of the sexual abuse of a girl, age 10, in the early 1960s. Gigante died in 10/22. He left millions of dollars to a son he had while a priest.

Priest of the Congregation of Missionaries of the Precious Blood (C.P.P.S.). Teacher and/or principal at a number of high schools. Accused in a lawsuit filed 2/19/2020 of sexually abusing a male student in the early 2000s at Siena Catholic Academy in Brighton and St. Thomas More Church. The abuse allegedly began in 2002 when the boy was age 12, and continued into the next year. Grasso is said to have threatened the boy with eternal damnation if he told. Grasso denied the allegations. V.A. chaplain in Albany since 2008. In 3/2024 unanimous jury verdict, Grasso's accuser was awarded $5.4 million.
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 2021 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a boy over two years at St. Rita's in Staten Island, beginning in 1977 when the boy was age 9. Per the suit, the boy was forced to wash the priest's feet and genitals with holy water, and to perform oral sex on him. Gregory denied the allegations.
Accused in a lawsuit filed in 2/2025 of sexually abusing a girl, age 12, at St. Clare Academy in Queens decades prior. Gribbon's accuser said that she was groomed and publicly assaulted by him at a school event. The Diocese stated that it learned of the allegations in 1/2024, and that its Review Board determined that there was not sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegation.
In 7/21 the diocese announced that it had been notified of a claim filed under the NY Child Victims Act that Grosz sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy 1990. The abuse allegedly occurred at a reception following a confirmation service at St. Brigid in Bergen. The plaintiff also accused Rev. Richard Keppeler, and said he was planning to disclose his abuse by Keppeler to Grosz, until he heard Grosz comment to Keppeler as he (the boy) approached the altar about his (the boy's) good looks. Grosz was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese in 1989 and retired in 2020. He denied the allegations. He took leave from active ministry pending an investigation.

Assigned for 39 years to St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Manhattan. Died in 1992. Accused in a 2019 lawsuit of sexually abusing a a boy, age 14, over a two-year period in the 1970s. The boy was a Horace Mann Prep School student whose music teacher allegedly forced him to join the choir at St. Ignatius Loyola. Per Hoefner's accuser, the abuse occurred after choir practice behind locked doors and included rape and violent spankings, and Hoefner watching as other men took turns assaulting him. Further, the music teacher allegedly took the boy to Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers to participate in a brass quartet, and was there sexually abused by three Capuchin Franciscan monks. Hoefner's accuser was one of dozens of Horace Mann alumni alleging abuse at the school by staff members.

Accused in 2004 of paying a teen for sex twice in the 1970s. Denied the allegation. Hubbard commissioned an investigation to examine this charge, and other allegations of sexual misconduct with adult males. Accused of abuse of a man who died by suicide in 1978. Hubbard's investigation found "no credible evidence." Went on voluntary leave after accused in a lawsuit in 8/2019 of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy in the 1990s. Hubbard denied the allegation. Lawsuit filed in 9/2019 claims sex abuse by Hubbard, along with Fr. Francis Melfe and Fr. Albert DelVecchio, of a girl, during poker games in the rectory of a Schenectady parish in the late 1970s. Hubbard denied the abuse. Third suit, in 10/2019, alleged abuse with another priest of a teenage boy 1976-1978. Fourth suit in 10/2019 alleged late 1980s abuse of a boy. A suit in 8/2020 alleged abuse and rape in the mid-1970s of a boy, ages 9-11. A new suit in 3/2021 alleged abuse of boy, age 11, in 1977. By 9/2021 Hubbard had been accused in at least 7 lawsuits under the Child Victims Act. He was also accused in "dozens" of lawsuits of covering up the sexual abuse of children in the diocese. Accused in a 2022 lawsuit, along with convicted priest Gary Mercure, of sexually abusing two young brothers beginning in the mid-1980s. Hubbard allegedly abused the younger brother once, and the older brother multiple times. Hubbard denied the allegations. He requested laicization in 11/2022; it was denied by the Vatican. On 8/1/2023, at age 84, Hubbard announced that he had married a woman in a civil ceremony the previous month. He died 8/19/2023 after a massive stroke.
Retired. The Diocese announced 6/28/18 that Ipolito's name was added to its list of accused, and that he was on leave pending investigation. A lawsuit filed in 8/19 under the NY Child Victims Act claims Ipolito abused a teenage boy in Toronto in 1975. The priest allegedly had taken the boy to a Beach Boys concert, plied him with alcohol and molested him at a hotel. A second suit claimed Ipolito fondled a 13-year-old boy in 1981 or 1982 at St. Vincent de Paul in North Evans. Ipolito was removed from the diocesan payroll 5/1/20 as part of a bankruptcy agreement. A lawsuit in 6/20 against the Boy Scouts alleges abuse by Ipolito, who was a Scout leader. Ipolito denied all allegations. Reportedly in 7/21, Ipolito was refusing to participate in the diocese's monitoring program for priests against whom there were substantiated allegations. Sued the diocese in 4/22 for restoration of his full pension.

The boy was a Bishop Turner High School student and Keeler was Vice-Principal and Dean of Discipline. Keeling allegedly took the boy on overnight trips and gave him alcohol and cigarettes. Keeling taught 1974-1979 at Bethlehem Catholic High School in the Diocese of Allentown PA. Keeling was transferred in 1981 to the Buffalo NY diocese.
Monsignor. Accused in two lawsuits filed in 6/21 under the NY Child Victims Act. Placed on leave 6/30/21. One of the complaints alleged that Kelly sexually abused a child 2005-07, while assigned to St. Margaret's in North Buffalo. The other alleged abuse of a boy, ages 8-10, during 1980-82. Kelly denied the allegations. In 10/21 he was reinstated after the diocese's review board determined that the allegations against him were unsubstantiated.

They originally complained to the Diocese in 1997 and then again in 2002. The Diocese also said it told the two brothers in 1998 or 1999 that LeFevre had been cleared.

Leonard is alleged to have abused the boy at the church on one occasion after choir practice, along with Fr. Thomas J. Thompson and Mr. Dennis O'Driscoll. Leonard died in 2018.

Accused in a lawsuit filed July 14, 2021 of sexually abusing an altar boy in 1983 and 1984, while a Rockville Centre priest. Libasci was pastor of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park NY at the time in question, and the boy was a 12- or 13-year-old student at the parish school. Libasci denied the allegations. He continued in active ministry during an investigation launched by Boston's Archbishop O'Malley. Libasci's accuser died in 7/2024.

Mahoney was removed from ministry in 11/2021 after the Diocesan Review Board determined that allegations against him were credible. In 10/2020 the Diocese received an allegation that Mahoney sexually abused a child 1975-1978 while assigned to St. Martin of Tours. He was also accused in a 4/2021 lawsuit of abusing a boy, ages 12-13, in 1963-1964 while he was principal at the Church of St. Leonard of Port Maurice School. Mahoney died 1/21/2024. Resigned from College of Cardinals, Pope accepted 7/28/2018. Ordered to a 'life of prayer and penance.' Moved to a friary in Victoria KS, near a school. Vatican ordered a new investigation in 10/2018. A third allegation was investigated in 1/2019. Laicized 2/13/2019. Accused in 10/2019 of abusing at least 7 boys 1970-1990. Named in 12/2019 lawsuits, one claiming abuse of a teen NJ boy in the mid-1990s. A suit in 7/2020 claims abuse in a beach house sex ring. New suits in 8/2020 and 9/2020. Pleaded not guilty at arraignment 9/3/2021. In 1/2023 McCarrick's legal team said he was not competent to stand trial. Declared incompetent to stand trial and charges dismissed 8/30/2023. Accused in a suit in NY in 8/2021 of sexually abusing a boy, ages 13-16, in 1975-1978. Two news suits in 9/2021, one by a former Newark archdiocesan employee alleging unpermitted sexual contact in 1991, the other by a priest alleging sexual assault, which he reported, and repeated unpermitted sexual contact around 1991 at McCarrick's NJ beach house. Another 9/2021 suit claims abuse of a young man, late teens-early 20s, in NJ the 1980s. A suit in 11/2021 claims abuse of an altar boy 1982-1986, starting when the boy was age 10, and another by a man alleging abuse when he was a seminarian in 1986 by McCarrick. Criminally charged in WI in 4/2023 with abuse of a an 18-year-old at a lake in 1977. McCarrick would allegedly take the boy to parties where other men also sexually assaulted him. This is the same accuser who alleged abuse beginning at age 11 in 1969 in multiple states, leading also to the charges in MA. Declared incompetent to stand trial and case suspended 1/10/2024. Included on the WDC Archdiocese's list of credibly accused. In 12/2024 a judge ruled that that the case would remain open but would be suspended until McCarrick's death. He died 4/3/2025 in MO, where he reportedly had been living at Vianney Renewal Center in Dittmer.

Worked at Loyola High School in Baltimore MD 1946-1949. McCarthy died in 1997. Added to Baltimore archdiocese's list 4/24/2019. Mentioned in the 4/5/2023 MD Attorney General's Report. Named in a lawsuit in 11/2024 against Fordham University as one of multiple priests at the university who sexually abused children on campus. Three plaintiffs claim abuse by McCarthy, and that he would lure neighborhood children with fun activities and candy. One man said he was abused during sleepovers with McCarthy and other kids. He also reportedly would take several children at a time to a back room, force them to fondle each other and him or pose with each other for nude photos. Some of the abuse also allegedly took place on overnight trips to Peconic Bay. McCarthy's victims were ages 10-15.

McCarthy allegedly asked the girl to help him out at the church, showed her pornography, forced her to sit on his lap, and "had sex" with her multiple times. She is said to have told a teacher, who did nothing, and was later expelled for reporting the allegations. She told her mother about McCarthy's behavior after the mother suspected the girl was pregnant. McCarthy denied abusing the girl. In 5/22 the diocese announced that its Review Board found that the allegation was unsubstantiated. McCarthy was reinstated.

Two former students at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx came forward in 4/12 to allege that they were abused in the mid-1980s by O'Connor, then Dean of Discipline. He left the school in 1987 and, as of 2012, left the Irish Christian Brothers "within the past few years." The order filed bankruptcy in 4/11, which opened the doors for the allegations to be made. O'Connor was also a teacher and principal at Power Memorial Academy in New York. Included on the order's list of former and deceased brothers with at least two claims of sexual abuse against them, as required by its bankruptcy settlement in 2014. A lawsuit filed in 9/19 claims O'Connor sexually abused a boy, age 15, in 1986. The boy was a Cardinal Hayes High student. O'Connor reportedly is the subject of "dozens" of allegations and lawsuits.

Accused in a lawsuit filed 8/13/2020 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing an altar boy, beginning in 1996 when the boy was age 12. A resulting review board investigation yielded an allegation in 3/2000 that O'Connor had engaged in inappropriate communications with teenagers via the internet while assigned to St. Athanasius in Brooklyn. He was placed on leave 5/2000, underwent treatment, and returned to ministry in 8/2001. In 1/2022 he was removed from ministry and added to the Diocese of Brooklyn's list of credibly accused priests. At the time of his removal O'Connor was pastor of St. Gregory the Great in Bellerose.

Sent to St. Luke's Institute for treatment, then reassigned to a Brooklyn parish in 6/2021. Again suspended in 10/2021 after he was seen with a teenage girl at the parish. Brooklyn auxiliary bishop Raymond Chappetto allegedly had not informed Okrokoto's new pastor of the prohibitions against him. Also, the pastor of Okrokoto's previous parish complained in a memo to Chappetto in 9/2020 that the priest continued to spend time with teenage girls, despite his treatment at St. Luke's. Chapetto retired in 2/2022 and was the subject of a Vos estis investigation, initiated in 12/2021, due to his alleged mishandling of the Okrokoto case, including failing to inform diocesan officials of the 9/2020 memo. The Vatican determined that the allegations against Chapetto were unfounded.

No criminal charges filed due to SOL. Referred to as a "former priest" in 6/04 report on investigation of Bishop Hubbard. In 6/19 a 49-year-old man alleged publicly that he was abused beginning in 1980 at age 11 and throughout his teen years by Pratt. He said Pratt made him and another boy engage in sex acts with each other, while he watched. He also claimed that at age 16 he told Bishop Hubbard, and that Hubbard told him that if he ever said anything to anyone again about it he would have him arrested. Lawsuit filed in 8/19.
From Colombia. Professed vows as a Salesian brother in 1967. Three men filed suit in 9/2002 alleging abuse by Puello when they were students at Salesian Jr. Seminary in Goshen, NY 1969-1973. One man said he told the seminary director (who went on to become an Auxiliary Bishop in Boston); the director dismissed the victim from the seminary, saying he was "not priest material." Per the suit, others at the seminary knew what was going on and there were other abusers at the school. Puello left the order at some point. He was ery active for decades in the Westchester County, NY theater community, including with youth. Died 8/21/2019. Included in 3/2020 on the Salesians list of credibly accused. It notes that Puello left the order in 1971.

In a 1/2019 letter to Alumni, Regis High School in NYC officials named former faculty members who had been accused of abuse of minors, including Rippon. Per the letter, Rippon's case did not meet the standards to be included on the Jesuits' Northeast Province list of those with credible allegations against them. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 6/2021 under the NY Child Victims act of sexually abusing a boy, age 15, in 1969 at Regis High School in NYC. The boy was a student. The abuse allegedly occurred about three times in Rippon's office. Rippon worked at Regis 1967-1983 and 1984-1985. Prior to ordination he taught at St. Xavier High School in NYC 1957-1960. He died in 1986.

Established Covenant House in Greenwich Village in the early 1970s as a shelter and foundation for homeless and troubled youth. Complaints of sexual abuse of teen boys date back as far as the 1950s. Complaints documented in book, "Broken Covenant" by C. Sennott, 1992. Civil suit. Forced to resign in 1990 after allegations. Refused counseling, resigned from the order in 1991, reportedly joined an overseas diocese. Died in 1999. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 7/21 in Manhattan of sexually abusing a boy, ages 13-16, beginning in 1981. His accuser, who was a Covenant House resident, said that Ritter gave him gifts and clothing, and that the abuse included forcing him to have sex with other men, including Covenant House donors.

From Puerto Rico. Among four priests at St. Simon Stock Parish accused of giving a boy, age 16, money for sex between 1/1996 and 8/1998. The boy and his family allegedly reported the abuse to the Archdiocese and Order in 1999; the boy moved out-of-state after receiving harrassing anonymous phone calls. The A civil suit filed in 2000 was settled prior to 2002. Rodriguez have continued active ministry in Puerto Rico.
Joined the Salesians in 1958, ordained in 1966. Accused in a 12/2013 suit of sexual abuse of a boy, age 14, at the Salesian minor seminary in Goshen NY, where Rooney taught theology and physics and was the financial administrator. The alleged abuse included removing the boy's clothing, touching and fondling the boy's buttocks and genitals skin-on-skin, and masturbating on the boy. The boy was also allegedly abused by Rooney on a school bus trip from Don Bosco Technical High School in Boston to Sacred Heart Retreat House in Ipswich. The complaint also alleged abuse of the boy in 1978 by Fr Joseph Maffei SDB and in 1981 by Bro Alan Scheneman SDB. Rooney was listed on the website of Boston attorney Garabedian 10/31/2014 after a settlement during the year previous. The Salesians confirmed a monetary settlement had been reached. Rooney worked in the Boston, Gary, Paterson, New Orleans, New York, Newark, and Birmingham (arch)dioceses. Laicized in 2008. Lawsuit filed in 2/2020 in NJ. Included on the Salesians list in 3/2020. New suit in 3/2022, also with claims against Sr. Alvin Marie Hagan, SSND. Rooney was living in 3/2022 in Arizona.

It notes that allegations were received in 2001 of abuse of a minor in the 1980s, and that Roos admitted the abuse. "Restricted" in 2001, "impeded" in 2019. Included in 1/2021 on the Diocese of Fall River's list of accused, where he was assigned at 1969-1971 to Bishop Connolly High School.
Parish priest. Diocesan Chaplain for Scouting 1981-94. Rosch was removed in 2002 after credible allegations that he abused a teenage boy 20 years prior. There was a payment by the Diocese. Rosch claimed that his removal was because he fondled a 17-year-old girl when he was 23 and had not yet been ordained. The Diocese refuted his claim, saying that that would not have been cause for his removal. May have appealed dismissal to Vatican. Settlement in 2020 in the low six figures of a claim that Rosch sexually abused an altar boy, ages 13-15, in 1975-77, while assigned to St. Joseph's in Scotia, NY. Accused in two lawsuits current in 9/21, filed under the NY Child Victims Act, of abuse 1992-93 at St. Madeleine Sophie in Schenectady, and of abuse 1975-76 at St. Joseph's in Scotia.

Retired, living in a residence for priests in Depew. Suspended in 9/18 after the diocese received an allegation they he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl in the late 1960s, while he was assigned to Coronation of the BVM in Buffalo. Sardina denied the allegation. He did admit to having been sent to counseling over 10 years previously due to "consensual" sex he had with women. Allowed to return to active ministry in 3/19 after the Diocesan Review Board deemed the allegation unsubstantiated. Sued under the Child Victims Act in 2019. In 9/22 the diocese was investigating a second claim against Sardina.
Ordained for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 2003 of abusing a boy on many occasions over three years in the early 1960s, beginning when the boy was age 10. From 1958-1961 Schaefer was in charge of a group of young boys who wanted to be priests at Philip Neri in Northport, NY. His accuser alleged that Schaefer also abused five other boys in the group and that he was transferred after parents complained. Schaeffer's last assignment in the diocese ended 5/15/1962. He was assigned in 9/1962 to a parish in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston WV. The Official Catholic Directory shows was absent on leave from Rockville Centre 1962-1969. Named publicly as accused on the Wheeling-Charleston diocese's list in late 2018, which notes allegations beginning in 1986 of abuse by Schaefer throughout his career. Faculties suspended 4/10/1986. Died 4/10/1998. Included in 3/2021 on the Rockville Centre diocese's list of accused.
Placed on leave in 9/21 due to a claim of abuse in the diocese's bankruptcy case and in accusation in a lawsuit filed in 8/21 under the NY Child Victims Act. Schober allegedly sexually abused a child, ages 8-13, during 1980-85, while assigned to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Elma. Schober denied the allegation. In 5/22 the diocese announced that its Review Board found that the allegation was unsubstantiated. Reinstated.
Monsignor. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 8/2021 under the NY Child Victims Act of "unpermitted sexual contact" with a 13-year-old in 1972, while assigned to St. Aloysius in Cheektowaga. Suspended in 9/2021 pending the investigation of accusation(s) of abuse reportedly discovered in documents filed in the diocese's bankruptcy case. Sciera denied the allegations. He reportedly had a friendship with Pope John Paul II. He was a board member of the John Paul II Foundation and was therefore often in Rome for meetings. In 9/2021 was retired and living in FL. in 2/22 the Diocese announced that the allegation was deemed substantiated.
Shaw's name was among eight released in 6/2018 by attorney Mitchell Garabedian of priests accused of sexually abusing minors. Assigned to St. John the Evangelist in Clyde in 1973, then St. Margaret Mary in Irondequoit 1974-1977. The alleged abuse occurred during his time at St. Margaret Mary. Per the Diocese, Shaw resigned from ministry in 1977 and was "dispensed from the clerical state" in 1978. Brother of credibly accused priest Dennis Shaw. Accused in an 8/2/2020 lawsuit of sexually abusing a child, age 13, in 1967. Accused in a suit filed 8/6/2020 of sexually abusing a girl, age 14, in 1977 in a confessional at St. Margaret Mary.

Accused in a lawsuit filed in 6/21 under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a boy, age 10 or 11, in about 1976, while assigned to Church of the Incarnation in New York. Thompson is alleged to have abused the boy at the church on one occasion after choir practice, along with Msgr. Thomas P. Leonard and Mr. Dennis O'Driscoll.
Member of the Eastern Province Vincentians. Accused in a 7/2021 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy, age 15, in about 1971. Towey was head of the theater department at Niagara University for 42 years until he retired in 2005. He remained active there until 2010, when he moved to St. Vincent's Seminary in Philadelphia. He died 11/22/2012.

Trezza's name is included in 10/2021 on the Franciscans' Holy Name Province list of those with substantiated allegations against them of child sexual abuse. No details provided as to when or where the abuse occurred. He is noted to have been removed from ministry in 9/2012. (Placing him for now in the New York archdiocese, where the Province is based.)
"Jack." Arrested in 1997 for public lewdness at a rest area; went on leave. Accused in a lawsuit filed 1/19/21 under the NY Child Victims Act by a man in his 40s of sexually abusing him as a child preparing for First Communion at St. Jude's in Wynantskill. Varno allegedly got the boy drunk on wine then fondled and sodomized him. The diocese kept Varno in public ministry until his parishioners of Our Lady of Grace in Ballston Lake discovered the lawsuit and demanded his removal in 7/21. Varno stepped down voluntarily, including from assignments at Immaculate Conception in Glenville and St. Joseph's in Scotia. He denied the allegations.

Accused publicly in 9/2022 of sexually abusing a boy, age 9, at St. Christopher's in Tonawanda in 1980. The diocese received a report of abuse in 2004, likely from the boy's parents, but determined that there was "no basis" to the allegation. Vatter retired in 5/2022. In 2/2023 he was placed on leave due to an allegation that he sexually abused a girl. Deemed substantiated by the Diocese in 9/2023. No criminal charges due to the statute of limitations.

Worked at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester 1962-1965 and 1968-1969, and at Regis High School in NYC 1969-1980. (The 1972 Regis High School yearbook is dedicated to Voelke, nicknamed "Voelks.") Voelkle left the Jesuits in 1985 and died in 2016. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 7/2020 under the NY Child Victims act of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy in 1976. The boy was a Regis High School student. Accused in a 8/2021 lawsuit of sexually abusing a boy, also a Regis High School student, age 16, in 9/1980. Another former Regis High School student filed suit in 11/2023, alleging abuse by Voelkle when he was age 19 in 1979 or 1980.
Walsh's name is included in 10/2021 on the Holy Name Province Franciscans' list of those with substantiated allegations against them of child sexual abuse. Parish priest. Diocesan Chaplain for Scouting 1972-1980. Chaplain in the early 1980s for the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. Weider retired in 2010 and was working in 2021 as a sacramental minister at Sacred Heart in Margaretville and St. Anne's in Andes. He was placed on leave 8/14/2021 due to an allegation in a lawsuit filed 8/7/2021 under the NY Child Victims Act that he sexually assaulted and abused a boy, age 14, 1977-1978 at St. Mary's in Coxsackie. The boy was a foster child living with a family that attended the parish. Weider was previously accused in two other claims, in 2004 and 2010, and was kept in ministry. In 5/2022 the diocese announced that it would add Weider to its list of credibly accused. Died 7/12/2024.
Williams was suspended from ministry in 5/2016 by the Marianists due to a credible allegation in 2011 that he sexually abused a male Chaminade High School student. He was a faculty member and administrator at Chaminade 1991-2012, and President for 12 years before resigning in 2011. He denied the abuse. The Order notified the Diocese. Law enforcement was notified in 2/2015. There was no prosecution due to the statute of limitations. Reportedly, the case was sent to the Vatican and Williams was defrocked. Per his LinkedIn account in 9/2018, Williams was in the Greater NYC Area, having been a PhD student at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome 8/2012-7/2016. Accused in a lawsuit in 8/2019 of abuse of a Chaminade student, ages 14-16, 1990-1993. Williams worked for three years as an operations manager for a cleaning service in NYC until he was laid off in 10/2023. He died in 12/2023, at age 54.
Placed on leave in 9/21 pending the investigation of an allegation of abuse reportedly discovered in documents filed in the diocese's bankruptcy case. Age 83 and retired when suspended. Wopperer denied the allegation. On 6/23/22 the diocese announced that the its review board found the allegation unsubstantiated and Wopperer was returned to ministry.
Accused in two lawsuits filed in 9/21 under the NY Child Victims Act. One of the suits claimed abuse of a child ages 13-15, starting in 1970 when Yetter was a seminarian and assigned to a Hamburg parish. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 3/22 of sexually abusing a boy, ages 13-15, 2015-2017 while assigned to St. Mary's in Swormville. Yetter resigned from the parish in 8/18 and was placed on leave after accusations surfaced that he had made unwanted sexual advances toward young men, one who said Yetter had groomed him since second grade. Yetter died 7/5/21 at age 73.
