BishopAccountability.org has launched a project to gather and post the assignment records of every U.S. Catholic priest who has been accused of sexual abuse since 1940, so that vulnerable communities can be identified and bishops' transfer policies can be determined.

See below for a brief description of assignment records and their importance, easy ways that you can help with this project, and our initial list of assignment records. For a more detailed account of assignment record research and how you can volunteer, see our guide.

Assignment Records: Why They Are Important

An assignment record lists all the diocesan and parish appointments of a priest, including telltale periods of sick leave. A detailed assignment record, like this assignment record of John Geoghan created by the Boston Globe, identifies populations that have been placed at risk, and is also cross-referenced with a list of accusations, so that the transfer policies of the priest's bishops can be evaluated. By identifying a priests' seminary class and the colleagues with whom he has worked, an assigment record can also begin to identify the circle of colleagues who kept the priest's activities secret and who might even have been involved in the abuse themselves.

But these records are dispersed and difficult to find, and complete assignment records for most accused priests are not publicly available. We urge the U.S. bishops to publish detailed assignment records with treatment episodes and accusation dates for every abuser. In the meantime, we are undertaking this work of research and collection ourselves. See our initial collection of assignment records below.

The staff at BishopAccountability.org has begun to assemble a library of assignment records for accused priests and others who figure in the crisis.Some we have developed ourselves from the Official Catholic Directory, diocesan documents, and investigative reports. Others were created by lawyers and investigative reporters. Others were created by the dioceses themselves and relinquished under subpoena, or were prepared by the dioceses in response to investigation by law enforcement.

Br. Joseph Malloy

Named publicly as accused by the St. John the Baptist Franciscans on its list 6/18/22 of those with substantiated allegations. No information as to when and where the abuse occurred, so we are placing him in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, where the Province is based. He died in 1992. Per his obituary, Malloy joined the Franciscans in 1938 and made his solemn vows in 1948. He worked in Southfield MI, Louisville KY, and in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati OH.


Fr. Maurus McBarron

A/k/a Joseph. Named publicly as accused in 4/22 by Attorney Mitchell Garabedian. Accused in a lawsuit that settled of sexually abusing a girl, ages 13-14, in 1977-79. McBarron was assigned to St. Mary's in Newark NJ during the time in question. He died in 1987.

Named publicly in 4/19 as credibly accused by Franciscan University of Steubenville after the University's review of cases of unwanted sexual advances against students by clergy since the late 1960s. Mulkern died in 2016.


Fr. Thomas K. Mabon

Ordained: 1957
Status: Settled

Diocese: Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown PA

Monsignor. Retired in 2001. Suspended in 2002 after an allegation he abused an altar boy 1988-90 at St. Mary's in Hollidaysburg. Mabon denied the charges. Sued 2003. Criminal charges dismissed due to SOL. Sent by Bishop Adamec to treatment, then allowed to resume ministry in 11/03. Civil suit continued. In 5/04 the diocese paid $3.71M to settle claims by 21 people alleging abuse by 11 priests, including Mabon. In 2005 a woman reported sexual abuse by Mahon at St. Mary's when she was a girl. Per the AG's 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report Mabon told the girl, "if you tell, everyone would believe you instigated it and that's your fault." The Grand Jury called Mabon a "predator" and found that Bishops Hogan and Adamec failed the children.

Fr. Bruce Duncan MacArthur

Sued in 2003 by a woman. Arrested in 1/06; charged with abuse of 3 girls at Beaver Dam hospital in the 1960s in WI. Admitted abusing 30 girls. The Sioux Falls diocese knew of his behavior in 1963. After WI, MacArthur worked in the San Angelo and El Paso TX dioceses. Arrested and convicted in El Paso in 1978 for abuse of a nursing home patient. Records unclear as to whether he served time in prison or was in inpatient treatment before release on probation. Worked in the San Antonio archdiocese 1979-84. Suits filed in 7/07 and 9/07 in WI against Milwaukee and Sioux Falls by 2 women. Convicted. Sentenced in 8/08 in WI to 6 months in jail and 10 years probation and to serve an additional month every year for 6 years. Living in TX when he died 2/22/12. The San Antonio archdiocese announced in 6/14 a credible allegation of abuse of a girl at St. James in the late 1970s. On the Sioux Falls diocese's list 3/21/19. It notes faculties removed in 4/92. On San Antonio's list 1/31/19. Named by the Gallup diocese in 12/14; volunteered at Gallup shelters in 2003.

Fr. Michael M. MacCourt

Died: 12/1/1977
Diocese: Diocese of San Diego CA

From Northern Ireland, where he was ordained in 1923 then sent to the U.S. Worked at St Columban's in NE 1923-24 and St. Columban's in Silver Creek NY 1924-30. He then returned to Ireland on sick leave 1930-38. While there he worked in parishes and as a chaplain. Sent back to the U.S. in 1938. Known to have worked in CA, NY and Silver Creek NY, where he died in 1977. Named publicly as credibly accused by the Columbans U.S. Province on its list in 2/22 (name spelled "McCourt.") A single allegation is noted, of abuse in 1940. Per the Official Catholic Directory, MacCourt was assigned in 1940 to St. Columban's in San Diego CA.


Fr. James L. MacGuinness

Included on Attorney Garabedian's 3/28/16 list of accused clerics named in civil claims resulting in settlements or arbitration awards. A 90-year-old man claimed MacGuinness sexually abused him at St. Joseph's in Roxbury MA 1938-40. Also worked in Beachmont, Marblehead, Lawrence, Sharon and Peabody parishes. Chaplain for both a boys' orphanage and a girls' academy. Several leaves of absence marked his career. Died 4/14/55.

Fr. Bernard M. Mach

Diocese: Diocese of Buffalo NY

Accused of fondling a 12-year-old boy in Fall 1991. In 1/93 the boy's parents met with Mach and in 3/93 with the diocesan chancellor. Civil suit filed 1993 when the diocese failed to pay for counseling. Placed on leave 12/93. Also accused, along with Fr. John Aurelio, of abuse of three others. Civil suit settled confidentially in 1998. Mach lived in FL without privileges. Died 2/17/04. Included on 3/20/18 diocesan list. Named in 4/30/19 suit. A suit 8/19 claims abuse of a 7-year-old at St. Gerard's in 1974. By 8/21 there were 21 lawsuits filed under the NY Child Victims Act with accusations against Mach.

Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado

Diocese: Diocese of St. Augustine FL

From Mexico. Rejected by multiple seminaries, ordained by his uncle. Founder of the Legionaries of Christ in 1941. Called the "most brilliant fundraiser in the modern church." By 1997 the Legion had seminarians - as young as age 10 - in 18 countries. Maciel sexually abused young boys throughout his career and fathered at least three children with two women. Nine men came forward publicly in 1997 to allege abuse as young boys when they were seminarians. Maciel was suspended from Legion leadership by Pope Pius XII in 1956 reportedly due to accusations of drug abuse and abuse of boys in Mexico. Reinstated in 1958. Pope John Paul II ignored reports of his abuse and, in fact, celebrated Maciel. Removed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, given life of prayer and penitence in Jacksonville FL. Died 1/30/08, age 87. By 2019 all but three of the men who had come forward accepted settlements from the Legionaries. The three called on the order to retract its "lies" about them to the media and called their low 5 figures offer a "humiliation."

Fr. Patrick Mackan

Diocese: Archdiocese of Louisville KY

Accused in a 2002 suit of sexually abusing a 17-year-old Canadian girl after she had been raped and impregnated by another man. The abuse is alleged to have continued 1972-75 and to have included oral sex and sexual intercourse. Some of the abuse occurred during trips to the US, where Mackan supervised other priests of his order in the Louisville archdiocese. His later career involved the education of children with special needs. Mackan died in 1990.

Fr. Leonard J. Mackiewicz

Diocese: Diocese of Wilmington DE and MD

Credible allegations of abuse. Named in a civil suit filed in 10/94 (shortly after his death) which alleged abuse of a youth in 1987. Removed from ministry in 1987. Name on list of abusive priests released by Bishop Saltarelli on 11/16/06. A woman filed a civil suit in 8/08 alleging abuse in 1966 when she was 13. Suit also alleges that there were nine other victims, including two minor males. A man filed a separate suit in 8/08, claiming abuse in 1970. Two suits filed in 9/08. Personnel files released in 2/12.

Fr. Benjamin T. Mackin

Diocese: Diocese of Green Bay WI

Added to the Norbertine's list in 4/21 of those with substantiated allegations of the sexual abuse of minors. Per the Order, it received report(s) in late 2020 or early 2021 that Mackin abused minors in the 1980s. Mackin was on faculty at St. Norbert High School and Abbot Pennings High School, was St. Norbert College parish pastor, then was abbot of St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere 1982-94. He died 12/20/05.

Fr. Eckley Macklin

Diocese: Diocese of Corpus Christi TX

In Summer 2021 the Diocese of Cheyenne informed parishioners that Macklin,age 85, had been credibly accused of abusing a minor in the Diocese of Corpus Christi and was restricted from public ministry. Macklin worked in the Cheyenne diocese 2004-2015. He was ordained late in life, in 1995. The bio for a book of stories and poems he authored describes Eckley as "an African American folk singer....public radio host...park ranger...priest...college missionary to the American Indians in Wyoming."


Fr. David Mark MacPherson

Diocese: Diocese of Covington KY

In 2003 two women settled claims with the Covington diocese over allegations that MacPherson molested them in the 1960s at St. Patrick's Parish. The diocese paid a total of $750K to the two women and to a man who alleged abuse by Fr. Earl Bierman. Both women were part of a class action suit filed against the Diocese of Covington. MacPherson left active ministry in 1978 and was laicized 1/20/84. Included on the diocese's list 7/31/20 of those with substantiated allegation(s).

Fr. Gordon J. MacRae

Ordained: 1982
Status: Convicted

Diocese: Diocese of Manchester NH

Psychological problems during seminary in 1978. Pleaded guilty in 1988 to paying boy for sex. Received one year in jail, deferred, and sent for treatment. May have abused in 1983 but no action. Charged in 1993 with 11 counts of molestation of at least four boys. Convicted in 1994 for assault of a boy. Sentenced to 33 1/2 to 67 years. Civil suits filed. [See Major Account for much information and related documents.] Multiple appeals. Still in prison in 2/14, continuing to deny guilt. Federal appeal case filed in 2/14.

Fr. John A. Madaj

Diocese: Diocese of Scranton PA

First named publicly as accused in the 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. Madaj's file contained two anonymous letters to Fr. McHugh in 12/52 alleging Madaj was having an affair with his housekeeper. In 3/90 the parents of a male 19-year-old told the diocese that Madaj had sexually abused their son at age 9 or 10. Madaj denied the allegation. Died 1998. On diocese's list 8/19/18.

Fr. Norbert J. Maday

Diocese: Archdiocese of Chicago IL

Arrested in 1993. Convicted in 1994 for assault of two boys. Sentenced to 20 years. Sued. Included in 10/03 settlement. Second suit 5/06. At least one claim included in 5/07 $6.65M settlement with 14 people claiming abuse by 12 priests; One claim included in 8/08 $12.7M settlement involving 11 priests and 16 plaintiffs. Laicized in 12/07. New settlement in 7/09. Spent 9 months in secure treatment facility in WI, as violent sexual predator; released in 8/13. Registered sex offender. Personnel file released in 1/14. New suit in 1/14. Last known to be living in WI. Died in 3/19. New suit in 9/16 claimed abuse over two years starting in 1979 of a boy, age 10. Settlement in 6/21 with two men alleging abuse beginning age 10 at St. Bede's on the South Side.

Faculties revoked in 4/88. Resigned as pastor of St. Paul 's in Barton 7/12/88. Convicted in 1989 for lewd conduct with a boy. Authorities knew of other victims over a 20-year period. Sentenced to probation for five years. Violated probation at least six times. Ended up serving two years in prison. Civil trial 1994; ordered to pay victim $175K. A second suit filed 2003. Died 9/10/00, while vacationing in Austria. On the diocese's list of credibly accused 8/22/19.

Fr. Paul Madden

Accused in 1993 of abuse of 13-year-old boy on 1973 trip to Ireland. Plaintiff settled for $50K. In separate 2002 suit plaintiff alleged church lied, telling him there was no previous knowledge of abuse by priests. Attached to petition was letter signed by a Paul Madden who said he "feels remorse and guilt for the molestation." Judge ruled in favor of Defense Motion for Summary Judgment 9/03 and case was dismissed. Worked as a missionary of the Society of St James the Apostle 1991-1993 and 1994-2002. Officially joined Chimbota diocese in Peru in 2003. Still active there in 8/15. Retired and living in Peru in 3/19. On Jackson diocese's list 3/19/19.

Br. Gregory Madigan

Diocese: Diocese of Saint Cloud MN

Alleged to have molested at least six boys in the 1960s and 1970s. Confronted by parents in the mid-1970s; agreed to seek treatment. Admitted abuse of a 14-year-old boy in the 1980s at a Crosier minor seminary school in MN. The Crosiers reached a monetary settlement with victim when he came forward in 1988. Madigan was sent for treatment. At least one claim was included in a 2/09 settlement with Crosiers and nine accusers in MN. Retired and living under safety plan in Phoenix in 3/14.

Fr. Alfonso Madrid

Diocese: Diocese of El Paso TX

From the Province of Mexico. Died in 1982. Accused in a 6/11 civil suit of abuse of a youth in the 1970s at at Sacred Heart in El Paso. Madrid allegedly "mentored" the boy before molesting him on multiple occasions. Diocese denied any prior complaints against him. Suit settled at mediation 7/13. Another man filed suit in 8/13 for abuse at the same parish 1974-75. On the Jesuits Central and Southern Province list 12/17/18. On El Paso diocese's and San Antonio archdiocese's lists 1/31/19. In San Antonio 1966-70. Reported there in 1968 to have had "inappropriate contact" with a 9-year-old boy. Five additional accusers 2014-19 alleged abuse in the late 1960s. Worked in New Orleans 1960-61.

Fr. Joseph Maffei

Diocese: Archdiocese of New York NY

From Italy. Arrived in the U.S. in 1952. Attorney Garabedian announced a settlement in 9/13 on behalf of a plaintiff who alleged abuse by Maffei as a 12-year-old boy, when Maffei was assigned to Sacred Heart Retreat House in Ipswich, MA. The abuse allegedly took place at the Marian Shrine in New Rochelle, NY. Died 12/29/09. Included on the Salesians list of credibly accused in 3/20.

Fr. Philip A. Magaldi

Ordained: 1960
Status: Settled

Diocese: Diocese of Providence RI

Left Providence in 1988 after claims of financial mismanagement. Moved to Ft. Worth diocese under Bishop Delaney in 1990. Pled guilty 1992 to embezzlement, returned to ministry after eight months. Accusation in 1997 in Ft. Worth. Still active until 1999 accusation; a 1999 lawsuit claimed abuse of a boy in Boston while Magaldi was a Providence priest. Plaintiff died; suit dismissed in 2000. Retired. HIV positive. Laicization requested; died 8/08. Another claim settled 8/21/12 in Ft. Worth. Lawsuit filed 9/19 claimed abuse of a boy, ages 12-17, in the late 1970s-early 1980s, while pastor of St. Anthony's in Providence. Suit in 10/20 alleges abuse of boy over five years, including on a trip to NYC in 1983. Dismissed by judge who ruled that church leadership could not be sued as "perpetrators."

Br. Finian Magee

Diocese: Diocese of Rockville Centre NY

Accused in a 4/03 civil suit of groping and rubbing against a 12-year-old boy in the early 1970s at St. Joseph's in Babylon. He was the boy's 6th grade homeroom teacher at the parish school. The abuse allegedly occurred in the classroom and in Magee's private school office. Died 8/27/93. (Name misspelled McGee in at least one news report.) Included in 3/21 on the Rockville Centre diocese's list of accused.

Fr. Patrick Francis Magee

Diocese: Diocese of Trenton NJ

Attended seminary in Ireland. Worked in the Trenton diocese. Returned to Ireland on vacation in 2003 where he was accused of abusing a boy between 1965 and 1969, when Magee was a seminarian. Arrested in Ireland. Allegations of abuse of two adults also raised in Trenton. Charges in Ireland dropped in 2004 after alleged victim's suicide. Magee returned to Trenton and asked to be reinstated. He is shown as retired in 2007-2010 Catholic Directories. On Trenton diocese's list 2/13/19. Multiple alleged victims noted. Removed from ministry. Subject of settlement(s).

Fr. John E. Magel

Status: Sued

Died: 04/15/2012
Diocese: Archdiocese of Louisville KY

Retired in 1995. Placed on leave in 6/02 when a man claimed in a lawsuit against the Archdiocese that Magel exposed himself to a group of boys by preparing a meal in the nude while on a camping trip. The same plaintiff also alleged abuse by a parochial school teacher. Magel was returned to active (retired) status in 3/03 when Archbishop Kelly determined there was no evidence that he had abused children. Magel died 4/15/12.

Fr. E. Neil Magnus

Died: 11/27/1988
Diocese: Archdiocese of Baltimore MD

A woman received "acknowledgment of crimes" and financial assistance for counseling from the archdiocese in 11/16 due to her claims of rape by Magnus and another priest, Rev. Joseph Maskell. Magnus was Keough High School's Religious Services Director, Maskell was chaplain and counselor. Per the woman they raped her at a CYO picnic in 9/70, when she was age 14 and a new Keough student. She said Magnus showed up in a police car and that the rape occurred after she was given a drink that weakened her. She said Maskell watched, then also raped her, and that his assaults continued through her high school years. She claimed, too, that on one occasion a Baltimore police officer joined Maskell and, after paying the priest, raped her. Magnus died 11/27/88. Magnus has been accused by at least one other former student, and Maskell by many. Both men have been implicated in the unsolved 1969 murder of Sr. Cathy Cesnik, to whom girls had confided abuse. On archdiocese's list 12/14/18.

Fr. Felix H. Maguire

Diocese: Archdiocese of Hartford CT

Police investigation of allegations against Maguire in 1984 was suddenly dropped, without explanation. Removed from ministry in 1992. Medically retired in 1993 and moved to Florida. Jury awarded one plaintiff $262,803 in 1995 trial that was sealed from the public. Sued 1/03 by a 21-year-old man who alleged assault when he was 15. Claims against Maguire were included in the 10/05 $22M settlement between the archdiocese and 45 people alleging abuse by 14 priests. Died 7/13/08. On the Hartford archdiocese's list 1/22/19. On the Diocese of Norwich's list 2/22/19.

Fr. Joseph M. Maguire

Diocese: Archdiocese of Santa Fe NM

Accused in a lawsuit 11/5/18 of abusing a boy, age 12, in 1955 at San Francisco church in Ranchos de Taos NM. Maguire was born 5/19/1898 in Lexington MA; trained at St Meinrad Seminary IN; ordained in Boston by Cardinal O'Connell on 5/25/1934. Reportedly taught at minor seminary for a year before working until 1960 in parishes in the Santa Fe archdiocese, where he was also a Consultor and chaplain of the NM Senate. Granted the title monsignor in 1950. After working as pastor at Ranchos de Taos, where he was later accused of abuse, he was on sick leave before his next parish assignment at Our Lady of the Assumption in Albuquerque. Listed in the Official Catholic Directory 1960-76 as a Santa Fe priest 'On sick leave' but reclassified as 'retired' when he died on 10/10/76. An obituary in the Boston Globe revealed he had been assigned to St. Brigid in Lexington MA, though never indexed or listed as there in the Directory. Not included on the Santa Fe archdiocese's lists of accused.

Fr. Joseph T. Maguire

Status: Convicted

Died: 02/22/2005
Diocese: Diocese of Manchester NH

Transferred three times in first 14 months after ordination. Diocese investigated 1974 allegation. Joined Stigmatine order in 1981. Investigated by police 1986. Working in Ireland at the time and nothing done. No assignment after 1981. Faculties withdrawn 1994. Some claims in 11/02 settlement. Criminal charges filed by two men in 2003. Convicted 2004 and sentenced to 44 years in prison. Eight others offered to testify as to his crimes against them. Died in prison in 2/05. Worked in Boston.

Fr. Thomas H. Maguire

Status: Accused

Diocese: Archdiocese of Boston MA

Took voluntary leave 10/28/12 without privileges after recent allegations of engaging in "inappropriate behavior in the presence of minors." Police investigators found no evidence of a crime. Had served as pastor at St. Helen Mother of the Emperor Constantine Parish in Norwell since 2001. After publicity, more people came forward with accusations of sexual abuse during and prior to the mid-1990s. While assigned to St. John's in Canton MA, reportedly drank alcohol with youth involved in the CYO and, on one particular occasion, touched himself sexually and offered money to the first boy who completed a sexual act. Name included on the archdiocese's list in 1/13,  'Administrative Leave; Case in Process.' Laicization announced 3/31/16.

Fr. Paul J. Mahan

Status: Sued

Diocese: Archdiocese of Boston MA

A 2000 lawsuit claimed Mahan abused two of his nephews in 1994-1995 Another was filed in 1999. As of late 2002, at least 12 lawsuits had been filed against Mahan. More in 1/03. The archdiocese was warned in 1994 and 1995. Mahan was referred to as "dangerous" and "a threat to adolescent males." Sent for treatment twice. Privileges removed in 1996. Involuntarily laicized in 2/98. Name included on the archdiocese's list in 8/11.

Fr. Robert J. Maher

Ordained: 1937
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Harrisburg PA

Monsignor. Assisted and pastored parishes throughout the diocese. Longtime Superintendent of Diocesan Schools, and member of Diocesan Examiners of Clergy. Resided many years at an orphanage for girls. Resigned 1975. Accused of the sexual abuse of at least 15 boys ant St. Vincent's in Hanover. More allegations surfaced after his death. Died 6/19/90. In addition to the Rockville Centre diocese and the NY archdiocese, Mahoney was assigned to a parish in the Manchester NH diocese 1990-94. Died 12/15/04. Named in two suits 8/19: claims of abuse 1971-74 of a St. Barnabas student, ages 11-14. (Plaintiff also accused Rev. Edward R. Mahoney was also accused in a 4/21 lawsuit of abusing a boy, ages 12-13, in 1963-64 while he was principal at the Church of St. Leonard of Port Maurice School.

As of 2/1/13, his successor, Archbishop Gomez, stripped Mahony of all administrative or public duties. Remained bishop in good standing. Maio allegedly gave the boy and other youths alcohol and marijuana and had them play strip poker. A second suit filed 4/10 alleged same circumstances, also in 1968. Both suits settled 5/11. The abuse allegedly occurred over a five-year period, beginning ten years previously. Malacaman's accuser, a family member, was age 19 in 7/22 when he came forward to police, and said he was abused from ages 9-14.

A man filed suit in 3/03 alleging that he had been sexually abused in the mid-1960s by Malboeuf, beginning when he was about 11 and continuing for 2-3 years. Two claims against Malboeuf settled in 8/04 as part of a $7.5M settlement between 45 claimants and the diocese involving 18 priests. Malboeuf was voluntarily laicized in 12/89. Died in 2009. Mallman is included on this list without any additional information on claims against him. Worked in Heart Butte MT for 40 years. Died 8/20/80. Included on the Helena diocese's list posted to its website 4/29/15 in compliance with the non monetary terms of the 3/5/15 bankruptcy settlement. On the Jesuits West list 12/7/18. Fr. Joseph J. Malloy

In 2001 a man accused Malloy of fondling him on one occasion when he was 8 or 9 in 1980. Malloy denied the allegation. Diocese investigation deemed the accusation "not credible" and Malloy was still an active priest as of 2009. Malloy was included in a 2001 global settlement of claims by 26 people against the diocese and 5 priests over the years. Total settlement was about $15M. Died 1/7/16. In 2019 a 55 -year-old man told a news outlet that when he was age 6, Malloy raped him at St. James in Stratford. The man told the diocese a year earlier and said he asked them to pay for his therapy but was only offered $5K. The man also alleged abuse by Revs. Raymond Pcolka and Joseph Murphy.

Fr. Robert Patrick Malloy

Arrested in 1998 and later charged with sexually exploiting at least 14 boys 1992-98. Placed on leave. Indictment covered 42 charges. Charges dismissed 2/02. Refiled. In plea agreement 8/02 Malloy pleaded no contest to five lesser counts. Sentenced 9/02 to 5 years (less 5 days) probation. Per 2002 article, he had been writing anonymous, sexually explicit notes to teenage boys at St. Pius High School, offering to pay them for their semen. Served as police chaplain until 1998. Included on Santa Fe archdiocese list of accused 9/12/17. Named in suit against Boy Scouts 12/18 along with Rev. Ronald Bruckner.

Fr. William J. Malone

Named publicly by the Diocese in 3/19 as credibly accused of the sexual abuse of a minor in the early 1980s at Sacred Heart in Jacksonville. His accuser was a girl, age 11. Her parents met with Bishop Snyder in 1991 after learning of the abuse, which allegedly occurred during confession. Malone was moved to St. Elizabeth Seton in Palm Coast. Diocesan documents included in the FL A.G.'s report released 11/20 show that, since 1991, at least four women had reported to the Diocese abuse by Malone at Sacred Heart. One said she was age 15 in 1982 when the priest molested her weekly for six weeks during counseling sessions. Another young woman gave birth to Malone's child. The Diocese paid the mother $3K per year 1993- 2010 for child support. Malone worked in the Diocese of St. Augustine 1/82 - 3/92. He went to live with his Order on Long Island, NY in 3/92, then returned to its Ireland Province, where he died in 2003. Included on the St. Augustine diocese's list 11/6/20.

Matter referred to the Vatican for further action. Died in 6/18.

Reportedly in 3/02 a woman accused Mangen of sexually abusing and raping her for three years in the early 1980s, when she was ages 16-18. Lawsuit filed in 1999. Worked in Chile in 1984 and later in Peru. Believed to be in Valdivia, Chile as of 11/10 (not as a priest).

Monsignor Francis Xavier Mankel. Helped found the Knoxville diocese; was its first chancellor and vicar general. Pastor of Sacred Heart Cathedral 1987-97. Accused in a 7/19 lawsuit of repeatedly sexually abusing a Sacred Heart altar boy for two-and-a-half years, beginning in 1991 when the boy was in fourth grade. The boy was allegedly "offered up" to other priests for sex, including admitted abuser Bishop Anthony O'Connell, at least twice. Mankel died in 2017. Mankel's accuser filed a police report in 2018 and met with Bishop Stika, who said there was no credible evidence. The suit also accused a Sacred Heart music teacher, William Michael Lovelace, of attempting inappropriate touch. The diocese settled with Mankel's accuser in 12/19 while still denying the validity of the claim.

Accused of abuse on Guam during seminary and his first assignment. A lawsuit in 2017 alleged abuse in 1985 of an altar boy, age 9-10, on Guam. A suit in 10/17 claimed abuse in 1985 of 14-year-old boy in Talofofo, Guam. On the Las Vegas diocese's list 4/12/19 (name misspelled "Manetta"). Accused in a lawsuit in 1/22, along with Fr. J. Michael Morrissey, of abuse of a boy in the 1980s in Mangilao, Guam.

Manzo is one of 12 priests and a religious brother named in a 10/02 lawsuit against the Diocese of Brooklyn, filed by 43 plaintiffs. One man claimed Manzo violently abused him when he was an altar boy during the early 1990s. Manzo was officially on leave from the diocese beginning in 1995. He is not indexed in the Catholic Directory after 2002. A church bulletin in 9/16 indicates that Marzo was still a priest of the diocese. On diocese's list in 2/19. It notes permanent removal from ministry 2/20/03.

Allegation to diocese in 11/07 from a man who said Marcinek abused him from about 1972, when he was a 10-year-old Holy Rosary student in Republic, until the early 1980s. He said the abuse, including oral copulation, occurred at the rectory, Marsinek's cabin and on trips, including to to Sea World and Geauga Lake in OH and Niagara Falls. Marsinek may have also abused the alleged victim's brother. He said his family was poor and Marsinek gave him money and gifts, including a car. Settled for $10K and 90 counseling sessions.

Fr. David J. Marcotte

Suspended in 2/19 by the archdiocese after it received an allegation that Marcotte sexually abused a teenage boy in 2016. Criminally charged in 10/19 with child solicitation, vicarious sexual gratification, and dissemination of matter harmful to minors. Archdiocese was sued in 7/20 by insurance company for failure to disclose allegations against Marcotte. Pleaded guilty in 3/22 to the of dissemination of matter harmful to minors. To be sentenced 4/7/22. Plea deal rejected by a judge in 4/22. Sentenced in a plea deal in 11/22 to a year of home detention followed by 18 months' probation. He was not required to register as a sex offender. 


Fr. Mark Maresh

In 2006 Maresh exposed himself to a woman and her children, a boy age 2 and a girl age 4, who were walking near an elementary school. The incident happened when Maresh opened his car door and said something to the woman. He was later arrested and pleaded guilty to public indecency. He was sentenced to 50 hours of community service, 30 days in jail and a $250 fine. After treatment at St. Luke Institute in MD he was returned in 2008 to public ministry. Included in the NE A.G.'s 11/21 report. He remains in active ministry in 1/23.


Fr. Antonio F. Marfori

Accused in 10/12/15 lawsuit of engaging at least once in unpermitted sexual contact with Doe 75, a boy aged about 15 in 1978 at Cathedral High School, where Marfori worked 1978-80. Attorney Jeff Anderson stated that Marfori orally copulated the boy on a trip, and that a second boy was abused by Marfori in the same way. Marfori is a native of the Philippines and graduated from St John's University in Collegeville MN in 1972. After learning of the suit, the diocese removed Marfori's faculties and began an investigation. When the suit was filed, Marfori was not included in the diocese's list of clergy accused of sexual abuse or an addendum to that list. Marfori reportedly remembers the complainant but said there was "no truth" to the allegation. In a 3/16 lawsuit a second former Cathedral High student claimed abuse by Marfori in the 1970s. Diocese added name to its list in 1/18. Per bishop, Marfori was living under restrictions in the diocese. The diocese's list in 7/22 shows that Marfori was laicized.

Fr. Paul F. Margand

Assistant priest at St. Teresa's in Lincoln in the 1980s when accused of molesting at least three boys, ages 11 and 12, on separate occasions within two years of ordination. Criminal charges were filed in 7/87 after one of the boys came forward. Found guilty in 1988. Served approximately three years in prison, released in 1/91. Diagnosed in prison as a pedophile with "obsessive-compulsive personality disorder with paranoid and schizoid features." A 4/02 story said he was a graduate student in criminal justice at Temple University in Philadelphia. Said to be using an assumed name. Laicized in 2004. Included on the diocese's list 4/2/19. Per the NE A.G. report released in 11/21, there are five known victims. Margand was struck and killed by a car in a hit-and-run accident while out walking  9/1/22. He had been living in Deptford Township, NJ.

Fr. Angel Crisostomo Mariano

Mariano was a cross-dresser who was convicted of child molestation in 1998 for performing oral sex on a teenage boy while posing as a 25-year-old woman. Served 5 months in jail. Jesuit leaders had reprimanded Mariano for sexual misconduct at least 5 years prior to the 1998 incident. Jesuits had apparently been moving him around since 1988. After release from prison he moved to a Jesuit community at Los Gatos where other priests abused two mentally disabled residents. Permanently banned from ministry 1998. On diocese of San Jose list 10/18/18. Noted to have been dismissed from the Jesuits 11/25/02. On Jesuits West Province list 12/7/18.

In 11/06 a woman sued Marier and Bishop William Skylstad over allegations that the priest possessed child pornography. The woman said she found the porn in 1996 while cleaning the priest's room and told the Bishop. Marier denied that it was child porn. Sent for treatment. Later reassigned. The woman said in the suit that the bishop defamed her by publicly issuing a strongly-worded press release that supported Marier. Court dismissed the lawsuit in 3/07.

Fr. Jaime Marin-Cardona

From Colombia. In 12/19 the diocese announced credible allegations against Marin-Cardona involving a minor. In 9/19 parents of the child expressed concern to the diocese. Marin-Cardona was was placed on leave and sent to an "adult facility." Charged in 1/20 with child sexual abuse. The abuse occurred in 2014 and 2016 while Marin-Cardona was assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Danbury, involving two boys. Marin-Cordona admitted to touching one of the boys on his groin multiple times over four years; his victim said the abuse started when he was age 12. The priest also admitted to touching the buttocks of the other boy. Pleaded not guilty in 2/20. Allegations substantiated by DCF. On diocese's list 1/22/20. Pleaded guilty to revised charges. Sentenced in 10/22 to ten years in jail, suspended after one year, and five years probation.

Named publicly as accused in the CO A.G. report 10/22/19. It notes a report in 2009 that Marin sexually abused a girl, age 5 or 6, in 1956 or '57. His accuser said the abuse occurred in the rectory basement, that Marin turned out the lights, put his had over her mouth and said, "It's okay, I love you." She said he also groomed her with presents. Marin was assigned at the time of the alleged abuse to Our Lady of the Assumption in Trinidad. He died in 1976.

One of them told his parents and they went to church trustees. In 1962 Marks was sent to another parish. He died in 1979 at age 71. Named in a civil suit filed 11/12/13 against St. Paul-Minneapolis archdiocese and New Ulm diocese. Another man came forward in 3/14. Additional suit filed 6/17/14 by man who alleged Marks would pay him for sexual acts in 1950s when he delivered newspapers to the rectory as a boy. Charged in 2/17 with felony child sexual assault for alleged incidents of abuse of a girl at St. Pius X parish and school 2007-2010, starting when she was age 6. Pled guilty in 10/17 to reduced charges. Sentenced 12/17 to 1 year in House of Corrections. On Sacramento diocese's list 4/30/19. Fr. Guy D. Marsico

In 1994, a man told the diocese that he had been abused by Marsico in 1982 at age 13. Marsico was assigned to St. Leo the Great in Rohrerstown and later to St. Rose of Lima in York. Diocese investigated and removed Marsico from active ministry without privileges. Diocese arranged for Marsico to pay for man's therapy and medication. It denied him any type of settlement because it said it had no knowledge of the sexual abuse at the time it happened. The man testified before a grand jury in 10/16 for the state A.G.'s investigation of 6 PA dioceses. He said that the D.A. in the late 1990s told him there were other Marsico victims. In 2011 Marsico was reportedly a Harrisburg travel agent. Name included on the diocese's list released 8/1/18.

Fr. Daniel J. Martin

Accused 3/22/18 by a former priest of the Erie diocese of molesting him beginning when he was age 16 in 1985-89. The former priest said he was a devout boy whose home life was troubled. In 1984 Martin had been named by Pope John Paul II a Prelate of Honor with the title Monsignor. Abuse is alleged at St George's in Erie, where Martin was pastor, and after Martin's 1986 retirement, at Mount Calvary church and Mercyhurst College in Erie, where Martin was in residence. The diocese confirmed that the survivor brought the allegation to Bishop Persico in 2014. The complainant testified before the grand jury investigating how Erie and other PA dioceses handled allegations. Martin died 5/23/06. Settlement in 2021 in the low six figures of a claim of abuse of a boy, age 15 in 1964.

In 2002 a man reported to the archdiocese that Martin groped him at age 14 in 1965.  The abuse is said to have occurred when Martin took him and his brother to his family home in NH to shovel snow and chop wood. Martin took leave in 2000 and resigned in 2001 from his position as pastor of the church where convicted child molester Chris Reardon worked; he had been accused of ignoring complaints about Reardon. Per the 8/11 Boston archdiocese's list, the allegations against Martin were found unsubstantiated. Retired; privileges still restricted in 8/22.

Fr. Kenneth L. Martin

Accused of abuse of two teen brothers at St. Andrew in Bayonne, starting in 1978. One told a priest in 1981 and auxiliary bishop Pichelli in 1983, but no action. Martin later held prominent position in diocese, then returned to parish ministry. The same victim went to Archbishop McCarrick with allegations in 1996 or '97. Victim and family got small settlement. Martin was removed, later assigned as a hospital chaplain. Removed in 2002. Still a priest in 2013, without privileges, working as a train conductor for NJ Transit. He successfully sued to keep personnel file from being released in bankruptcy. On archdiocese's list 2/13/19. Multiple alleged victims noted. Permanently removed from ministry. New suit in 7/20 claims abuse of a boy 1981-84 at St. Andrew's.

Fr. Patrick H. Martin

Accused in a 2/26/04 suit of sexually abusing altar boys at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Manhattan. Three plaintiffs alleged abuse 1955-61, beginning at ages 11, 10, and 13, with one claiming more 200 incidents over five years. Martin also had a disciplinary role at parish grammar school. Police arrested a man who claimed Martinez fondled him after they had both been drinking. The man was later sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder. A lawsuit filed in 8/15 alleged rape by Martinez over 2-year period of an altar boy at Sacred Heart in Española, NM in the late 1980s. Included on Santa Fe archdiocese list of accused on 9/12/17.

A 3/03 lawsuit claimed abuse of a boy at Cathedral High in El Paso in the mid-1980s. At least 10 men alleged abuse there as boys when he was principal 1976-85. Others alleged abuse in New Orleans in the 1970s, prior to El Paso. Suit settled in 7/04. One of the additional plaintiffs filed suit in 5/04. Working in Santa Fe NM when suit filed. Retired. Two men settled a suit in 1/12 for $1.6M. New suit in 3/12, another in 4/12. Living in Lafayette, LA in 9/14 and allowed (under safety plan) to travel to Holy Family Community on the campus of John Paul The Great Academy on weekends for religious exercises. Visits stopped after publicity. Died in 2016. On El Paso diocese's list 1/31/19.

Fr. William Martinez

Named publicly as accused in the CO A.G. report 10/22/19. Admitted in 1993 to sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy 12/80-1/81, while assigned to Holy Apostles in Colorado Springs (prior to establishment of the CO Springs diocese). Martinez was in charge of the parish youth group and the boy was a member. Placed on leave, faculties removed. Sent to treatment. Resigned from ministry 1996. Victim sued; settled in 9/95. Allegedly abused another teenage boy in 1985 or '86, while assigned to Annunciation Parish in Leadville. Reported to the diocese within several years; no action by the CO Springs diocese, per the A.G. Voluntarily laicized in 2006.

Suit settled as part of 12/06 $60M settlement involving 22 priests. Transferred to new assignment, parishioners not told of past allegations. Named in suit filed 10/18. Still active parish priest in 10/18.

Fr. Nilo C. Martins

Brazilian pediatrician and order priest. Convicted 1985 of abuse of boy, age 12. Sent for treatment before conviction. Served only about 5 weeks of 23-46 month sentence. Immediately deported/returned to Brazil. Remained active priest there for for many years.

Fr. Loville N. Martlock

Placed on "medical leave" in 10/93 after accused of sexually abusing a boy, age 8-12, beginning in 1974, when working as a religion teacher at Notre Dame High School. In 2002 Martlock was retired, living out of state and not functioning as a priest. He died in 2014. Included on 3/20/18 diocesan list. List included deceased priests only if they had more than one allegation. In 9/18 a Buffalo deacon said that he was sexually abused by Martlock at age 16 in 1970. He said Rev. Mark Friel also abused him. Accused in a 1/20 lawsuit of abusing an altar boy in beginning in 1968 when the boy was age 8 and Loville was assigned to St. Christopher's in Tonawanda.

Deacon James A. Martone

Ordained as permanent deacon in 1983. Placed on leave in 2004 after allegations he abused a child beginning in 1991 and continuing for several years. Also placed on leave from his job as business manager of a third parish, pending results of the investigation. Diocese announced in 5/05 that the review board found the allegations to be credible. Permanently removed from ministry. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused. Died in 2021.

Fr. Fabian Maryanski

Retired 2014. Per 5/18 news, investigated by diocese and placed on leave in 1995 for alleged abuse of a teen girl in the 1980s. 'Absent on Leave' for 5 years yet resided and said mass at St. Mary's in Medina. Assigned in 2000 to a Cheektowaga parish, then pastor of St. Andrew's in Sloan. Suspended the day after news report. Bishop said he would reopen the investigation. Abuse allegedly when Maryanski was pastor of St. Patrick's in Barker, and the girl was ages 15-22. She said he gave her gifts, promised to marry her, and threw her to the ground when she said she was going to tell another priest. He acknowledged sex with her but denied it was when she was a minor. Settlement offered 12/18. Per 6/18 news, Maryanski recently investigated by DA after a complaint from a schoolgirl in 1/18. Behavior deemed "creepy," not criminal. In 12/18 diocese said allegations substantiated. Added to diocese's list 1/7/19. Removed from diocesan payroll 5/1/20 as part of bankruptcy agreement

Fr. A. Joseph Maskell

Parish priest, Keough High chaplain & counselor, police chaplain. Per 1994 lawsuit, abused girls at Keough, late 1960s-early 70s. Subject of investigation into 1969 murder of Sr. Catherine Cesnik. Student said she told Sr. Cathy of abuse by Maskell; Sr. Cathy soon missing, later found murdered. The former student said in 1994 that Maskell drove her to a remote area and showed her the body. Archdiocese settled with her 1/17. Another former student said two police officers sexually abused her while Maskell looked on. Said to have drugged victims and shown gun. Placed on leave 1992; reinstated 1993-94. Removed again 1994 after new allegations. Fled to Ireland; worked as psychologist, including with children. Died in 2001. By 5/17 archdiocese paid $472K to 16 people with accusations against Maskell. One man said Maskell sexually abused him as an 8th grade altar boy and his mother told the archdiocese in 5/67; Maskell was then moved to Keough. An Irish accuser surfaced in 5/17. HSE was investigating in 6/17.

Fr. George M. Maslar

Accused in a case that settled in 2021 of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in 1971. Maslar's alleged victim said that the two met at prayer meetings at the Cathedral of St. Augustine in Bridgeport, and that the abuse happened twice in Maslar's car. The diocese was informed of the allegation in 11/17. Maslar died in 12/21.

Accused in 2000 by a man of making sexual advances toward him when he was junior in high school and at University. The diocese did not tell him that Mason had been found guilty in 1981 of sexually assaulting a student and had been placed on probation for 18 months. Absent on sick leave 1987-1992 per the Catholic Directory; "On duty outside the diocese" 1993-2003. Believed to be drug abuse counselor in WI. Laicized 1/19/04. Included on the diocese's list 1/18/20, with multiple substantiated allegations.

Massaro, founder and longtime head of Youth Ministry program for Northeast province of the Capuchins, was accused in 2002 of molesting several boys, including one in Long Island and one from Queens, a number of years previously. He was removed from his assignment in New Hampshire (no claims of offense there) and placed on leave. Remained a priest without privileges.

Archdiocese admitted it knew in the 1950s of his history. Permanently removed from ministry by the Vatican 10/05; not laicized. Still under care of Archdiocese as of 4/07, with ill health. Died 05/03/14, age 98. On the Glenmary Home Missioners list 10/11/19.

Fr. Daniel J. Massie

Associate Pastor at St. Mary Parish 1980-86. Multiple allegations that he abused young girls there. At least one settlement in 1992. Treatment in 1992 for alcoholism and sexual issues. Removed in 8/02 without privileges from current parish because of history of inappropriate sexual behavior with minors. Laicized per Archdiocese's list of accused priests dated 11/07. Actual laicization date was 8/3/09 per personnel file released in 7/13. Allowed to work for the state as a social worker and substance abuse counselor 2006 until 2/17, when he stepped down.

Working in the Joliet diocese by 1977 ,where allegations were made in 1983 and 1991. Left Joliet in 1984, worked in Chicago and later returned to the Archdiocese of Cebu. Died in 2004. Name on 4/06 Joliet list of priests with credible allegations. Joliet diocese agreed to release of personnel files 3/13 as part of settlement in Rudofski v Joliet & Bennett. Files released 4/30/14. Also named in a civil suit filed 4/30/14. An additional suit was filed by three men against the Joliet Diocese claiming 1980 abuse 9/18/14. Settled in 8/18 for $1.4M. On the Richmond diocese's list 6/27/19.

Fr. Philip A. Mathews

Allegedly abused a boy, about age 10, in 1966 at an Atlantic CIty hotel, while assigned to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Berlin NJ. Claim settled 2/15. Mathews also worked in Laurel Springs and Margate parishes. Went on leave 1973. Appears not to have returned to ministry. Included on the diocese's llist 2/13/19. Deceased.

Fr. Richard O. Matte

Investigated by the archdiocese in 1992 after receipt of an anonymous letter complaining of Matte's behavior. His personnel file later showed two complaints in 1992 and at least one more by 11/93. Removed in 1994. By 3/02 six men had brought complaints against Matte and received settlements. He was sued at least twice. Voluntary laicization announced 6/10/05. Per the Boston list in 8/11, case concluded canonically. The list in 2020 shows that Matte died in 2017.


Mary Ann Mattes

Sr. Mary Jeremy. Given name Mary Ann Mattes. Accused in a lawsuit filed in 2/20 under the NY Child Victims Act of physically and sexually abusing a boy who was in second grade at St. Michael's Academy in Flushing 1959-60. Sr. Mary Jeremy allegedly "savagely beat" the boy in front of the class, including kicking his groin. The boy's parents reportedly removed him from the school after several incidents. Mattes died in 2018.

Listed on the website of Boston attorney Mitchell Garabedian on 10/31/14 after a settlement had been reached in the year previous. On Dominicans St. Joseph Province list in late 2018. It notes his removal from contact with children in 1984. Died in 1991.

Charged in 1998 with forgery and theft, accused of stealing around $14K from St. Joseph parish in Shelbyville. Charges dropped when he agreed to repay some of the money. Retired 2009. Suspension announced by the archdiocese 8/30/18 after it received an allegation that Maung abused a child 1993-97. Maung denied the allegation. Included on archdioces's list 10/12/18.

Fr. Joseph D Maurizio

Homeland Security raided rectory 9/12/14. Charged with illicit sexual conduct in foreign place and possession of child porn. Suspended. Accused in federal agent's 9/25/14 affidavit of sexual abuse in 3/09 of two boys living at center for street children in Honduras. Center's board members reported Maurizio 11/09 to diocese, FBI, and PA AG. Maurizio remained pastor. Resumed trips to Central American countries by 2011. Prosecutor cited 2 new allegations by boys in PA 9/29/14, ages 5 and 7 and rectory computer photos showing genitals of polio-stricken boy, now deceased. Per prosecutors in 9/15, 4th boy alleged abuse by Maurizio. One boy recanted at trial 9/15. Convicted 9/22/15 of illicit sexual conduct in foreign places, possession of child porn and international money laundering. Named in PA A.G.'s 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report. Sentenced 3/2/16 to 16 years., 8 mos jail and life probation. Appealed. Denied 7/24/17.

Taught and was principal of a number of high schools, including in Dayton OH, Hamilton OH, Chester PA, Brooklyn NY, Philadelphia PA, Beacon NY, Covington KY, Pittsburgh PA. Died 7/8/70. Included on the Order's list 6/24/20.

Fr. Robert E. Mayer

In 2/09 it was revealed that Mazon had been removed from ministry in the Gallup diocese in 2004 due to an allegation that he had sexually and psychologically abused a girl 1974-78 while at St. John's in Roswell. Civil suit filed in 2005 against Mazon and the Santa Fe archdiocese. It was settled and dismissed in 2/06. Living as of 2011 at order's Juan Diego Friary in Albuquerque, possibly with former Archbishop Sanchez. Included in an update of the Gallup diocese's list 4/28/17. On Santa Fe archdiocese list 9/12/17. On Las Cruces list 11/8/18. Died in 11/18. On the Cincinnati archdiocese's list in 2/22. On the St. John the Baptist Province Franciscans List in 6/22.

Fr. Terence O. McAlinden

Removed without privileges 9/07 after Diocese informed by prosecutor's office of claims that he had sexually abused a juvenile for years, beginning in 1985. Civil suit filed; dismissed. No criminal charges due to SOL. Diocesan review board deemed allegations credible. Matter forwarded to the Vatican. Same man filed in 2009 in DE. In 2011 a man said he reported abuse in 1989 and settled with Diocese in 1992. Another man alleged abuse in late 1960s. Suit still before the court 6/14. Diocese claimed no responsibility for McAlinden's behavior because he was "off duty" at the time of abuse. Diocese settled 10/14 with a man claiming abuse by McAlinden in the 1980s. Died 2/6/15. On diocese's list 2/13/19.

Fr. John Kevin McAndrews

Accused in a 2002 lawsuit of abuse of a boy, age 11-12, in the late 1960s at St. Anthanasius Church in Reading, MA. The abuse allegedly went on for a year. McAndrews died in 1986 at age 63. The Boston archdiocese 8/11 list reports no formal determination of guilt either because McAndrews died prior to canonical investigation or it was not complete at his death.

Fr. James M. McAuliffe

In a 6/10 newspaper ad, a man asked people to call if they wanted to talk about McAuliffe. When contacted by diocese, he said McAuliffe abused him at Holy Savior in Wilkes-Barre sometime 9/54 - 4/63. Diocese contacted police and notified parishes where McAuliffe was assigned. Several people came forward. One said he reported his abuse, including sodomy, in 1963. Bishop Hannon sent the priest for treatment in KY and did not allow McAuliffe to return to ministry. Hannon died in 1965; McAuliffe found his way back to ministry. Pastor Emeritus of St. David's when he died 8/7/89. Included in 8/14/18 PA Grand Jury Report. On Scranton diocese's list 8/19/18. Accused of abuse of two boys 1966-69, age range 11-16. Both cases settled in 2020 in the mid-five figured.

Fr. Daniel R. McBride

Placed on leave in 2002 when charged with the recent abuse of a 17-year-old boy, who was part of prostitution ring.  Pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor. McBride was age 75 when the incident occurred. Sentenced to three years probation in 6/03. Charges resulted from investigation of Parmadale residential treatment facility, operated by Cleveland Catholic Charities for children with histories of delinquent behavior and emotional problems. On Administrative Leave until his death 1/12/15. Included on the diocese's list of credibly accused.

Fr. Peter McBride

Diocese: Diocese of Paterson NJ

Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list 2/13/19. Multiple accusations noted. Removed from ministry 10/1/94. Indicted in 2/95 on charges of sexual harassment by offensive touching of two adult female parishioners, and of molesting a girl, age 14. McBride had admitted to exposing himself to and fondling the girl. Charges were dropped in the case of abuse of the girl, the judge saying that McBride was denied his right to an attorney. The girl filed a civil case in 2/96, which settled. Six other women also claimed molestation by McBride but no prosecution due to the statute of limitations. He pleaded guilty in 2/97 to improper touching of the two adult women, in 1991 and 1992. Sentenced in 4/97 to treatment and fined $250. Sent to St. Luke Institute in Silver Spring, MD. He was later allowed to work as a weekend assistant at a parish. 


Fr. Kevin McBrien

Removed from position at St. Matthew's In Glendale Heights in 5/10 after allegation that he abused a boy on a single occasion about 30 to 35 years prior, while assigned to Joliet Catholic High School. The same person also alleged abuse on multiple occasions by Fr. Lee Ryan at Providence High School. Investigation by diocese. Living in a supervised setting in 8/10. Added in 2/21 to Joliet's list of those with substantiated allegations. Noted to be on a safety plan, since 2011. Name included on the Chicago archdiocese's list in 10/22.

Fr. Francis McCaa

PA AG's 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report calls. McCaa "a monster" in his sex abuse of boys, ages 8-15, at Holy Name parish and school in Edensburg, 1961-85. At least 15 victims, maybe hundreds; at least two died by suicide. McCaa would ensure altar boys did not wear pants under their cassocks so he could reach under to touch and squeeze their genitals or push his finger into their anuses. He grabbed one victim's penis and said, in front of other boys, "If you ever use this, I'm going to rip it off." Abuse usually in the sacristy, sometimes rectory, and in confession. Bishop Hogan knew by 1985. Parent contacted DA's office, per instruction of a child care official. Hogan met with Assistant DAs re danger public would find out. DAs agreed to meet with parents group to diffuse anger. Sent to "treatment," then given hospital chaplaincy in WV with Hogan's "glowing recommendation." "Retired" 1993, died 2007. Subject of multiple lawsuits. On Wheeling-Charleston diocese's list late 2018.

In a 2002 civil suit, three men alleged they were sexually abused by McCabe when he was working in the Boston Archdiocese. McCabe's personnel file, released in 2003, reports five men said McCabe fondled them during 1970s. Omitted from 2011 Boston AD database. Included on the Jesuits Northeast Province list of credibly accused 1/15/19. It notes reports received in the 2000s of abuse in the 1960s-70s. McCabe died in 1998.

On the Jesuits West list 12/7/18 (name misspelled McCaffery). It notes reports in 2005, 2007 and 2008 of abuse 1978-79, 1979-81 and 1992-96. Living in Colombiere Jesuit Community in Portland, OR when he died 5/7/06. His status at the time of his death was "awaiting assignment," per the Jesuits West list. On the Jesuits Northeast Province list 1/15/19. The Fairbanks list in 11/20 shows nine reports of abuse.

Fr. Martin D. McCamley

Per PA AG's 3/1/16 Grand Jury Report, in 1981 Bishop Hogan dismissed a report that McCamley fondled a 16-year-old boy, then allowed the priest to be Vice-Principal of Bishop McCort High. Another report made in 2001 of fondling of 13-year-old boy prior to 1977, on overnights in the boy's home. The boy had been molested by McCamley's sex partner, Fr. James Bunn. Bunn apparently passed the boy off to McCamley. McCamley was sent for evaluations in 2001 and 2003. Suspended in 2003 after accusations by 4 men of abuse while at McCourt High and St. Patrick's in Johnstown. Retired to Orlando FL in 2004. Another accusation in 2008 of abuse of boy decades earlier, while assigned to St. Patrick's.

Fr. William T. McCandless

Criminally charged in federal court 12/3/20 with three counts of child pornography offenses. McCandless reportedly knew of the investigation for over three years. He lost his job as a counselor at DeSales University in 10/17 due to the investigation. McCandless worked at a parish in Monaco 2010-2017, and was an advisor to the royal family. He allegedly collected thousands of child abuse images while in Monaco and added to his collection in the U.S. Prior to leaving for Monaco in 2010, he was accused of admitting to abusing a 14-year-old French boy. Pleaded guilty in 7/22 to one child pornography charge. Sentenced to 37 months in prison and 15 years of supervised release. After release, to live under supervision with his Order. Was to also register as a sex offender.

Cardinal Theodore Edgar McCarrick

WDC Cardinal Archbishop 2001-06, Newark archbishop 1986-2000, Metuchen bishop 1981-86, NY auxiliary bishop 1977-81. Retired in 2006. Per NY archdiocese 6/20/18, substantiated allegations of abuse of a boy, when NY priest and Cardinal Cooke's personal secretary in the 1970s. Suspended. Denied abuse. Three prior allegations of misconduct with adults in Newark and Metuchen; settlements with two. In 7/18 a man said McCarrick abused him for 20 years, starting age 11 in 1969. He said he told Pope JPII in 1988 during visit arranged by McCarrick; no action. Sued in 8/19. Resigned from College of Cardinals, Pope accepted 7/28/18. Ordered to live a 'life of prayer and penance.' Moved to a friary in Victoria KS, near a school. Vatican ordered a new investigation in 10/18. A third allegation was investigated in 1/19. McCarrick was laicized 2/13/19. In 10/19 he was accused of abuse of at least 7 boys 1970-90. Named in 12/19 lawsuits, one claiming abuse of a teen NJ boy in the mid-'90s. A suit in 7/20 claims abuse in a beach house sex ring. New suits in 8/20 and 9/20. McCarrick was charged 7/28/21 with sexually assaulting a boy, age 16, in MA in 1974. His accuser said McCarrick was a family friend who often joined the family on trips, and that McCarrick sexually abused him in NJ, NY, CA and MA. Pleaded not guilty at arraignment 9/3/21. Accused in a suit in NY in 8/21 of sexually abusing a boy, ages 13-16, in 1975-78. Two news suits in 9/21, one by a former Newark archdiocesan employee alleging unpermitted sexual contact in 1991, the other by a priest alleging sexual assault, which he reported, and repeated unpermitted sexual contact around 1991 at McCarrick's NJ beach house. Another 9/21 suit claims abuse of a young man late teens-early 20s, in NJ the 1980s. A suit in 11/21 claims abuse of an altar boy 1982-86, started when the boy was age 10, and another by a man alleging abuse when he was a seminarian in 1986 by McCarrick. In 1/23 McCarrick's legal team said he was not competent to stand trial.

Monsignor. Accused in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing a girl, age 12, at St. Matthew's in 1982. Placed on leave in 7/21 pending investigation. McCarthy allegedly asked the girl to help him out at the church, showed her pornography, forced her to sit on his lap, and "had sex" with her multiple times. She is said to have told a teacher, who did nothing, and was later expelled for reporting the allegations. She told her mother about McCarthy's behavior after the mother suspected the girl was pregnant. McCarthy denied abusing the girl. In 5/22 the diocese announced that its Review Board found that the allegation was unsubstantiated. McCarthy was reinstated.

In early 9/03 an anonymous flier circulated in the neighborhood around the church where McCarthy served in the 1990s, urging parents to check with their children to see if they had been abused by McCarthy. Included on 3/20/18 diocesan list as removed, retired, or having left ministry after allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. Case sent to Vatican. Removed from diocesan payroll 5/1/20 as part of bankruptcy agreement.

Archdiocese then helped him in career as a Hennepin County correctional officer; he lost the job in 1999 after being accused of criminal sexual conduct with a 17-year-old. Believed to be living in Oakdale or St. Paul MN per the 12/13 list. Personnel files released 6/14 show several incidents of abuse and treatment. McCarthy died in 2019.

Lawsuit filed in 8/19 claimed abuse by McComiskey of a 16-year-old in 1976 at St. James and Phillip in St. James, and during a camping trip. Included on the diocese's list in 3/21, noting abuse allegedly occurring at St. Joseph's in Babylon, where he was assigned 6/70-9/75, at a private home on Long Island and at a hotel in Zurich, Switzerland.

Order settled in the 2000s with a man alleging rape at age 14 on trip to Rome in 1975. Order announced in 8/09 settlement with 3 men alleging abuse in the late 1970s at Salesian Junior Seminary in Goshen, NY. Three others then came forward. At least 16 civil suits. Arrested 8/12 in NY, charged with rape of boy ages 9-10 in 1981-82 at Ipswich MA camp. Convicted 11/14. Sentenced to 8-10 years in prison. Convicted 8/15 of abuse of boy, ages 6-8, at the camp in early 1980s; sentenced to another 8-10 years' prison, to run concurrently with term already serving. Added to New Orleans archdiocese's list 12/19 (AP asked why it was missing). On Salesians list in 3/20. Added 2/20 to Columbus diocese's list. Died 4/2/20.

Parish priest and pastor, Catholic Social Services/Charities director. Monsignor. Accused in a lawsuit in 2021 of raping a boy during 1972-74. The boy was in grades 4 and 5 and an altar boy at Queen of All Saints in Concord when the abuse allegedly occurred. The boy kept diaries at the time in which he repeated "God is doing this to me" and "God hates me." Medical records show he was treated for rectal bleeding at age 11. McCracken died 2/1/12.

From Ireland. Ordained for the Diocese of St. Augustine. Accused in 10/97 by three sisters of 'seducing' them in the 1980s when they were teenagers. The sisters claimed they came forward to his current diocese at least 14 months prior to the time they went to the newspapers. McCreanor was not removed from his parish until they went public. Per the diocese, at least five more women have come forward to claim that he had made sexual overtures toward them. He denied all allegations. No charges filed. Included on the St. Augustine diocese's list 11/6/20, abuse noted to have occurred 1973-75. Included on the Pensacola-Tallahassee diocese's list of credibly accused. Permanently removed in 1997.

Fr. Philip E. McCrillis

Two sisters filed suit in 2004 alleging that McCrillis had abused them and had a sexual relationship with their divorced mother in the 1960s, while he was at St. Albert the Great in Palo Alto. The women won a low six-figure settlement with SF Archdiocese (the parish was part of the Archdiocese at the time). The San Jose diocese acknowledged that it found the accusations credible. McCrillis retired 7/03 due to Parkinson's. Privileges removed 2004. Died 2/2/07. On diocese's list 10/18/18.

Worked in DE, PA and NJ. Died in 10/99. In 6/09, a nephew of Cardinal John J. O'Connor of NY filed suit in DE alleging abuse by McDevitt in Philadelphia in the early 1990s. This was after the Order had already removed McDevitt from a school. Name released as part of 8/11 Oblate $24.8M settlement with 40 individuals. Name included on Harrisburg diocese's 8/1/18 list, accused after his death of having kissed a child. Included in the PA Grand Jury Report 8/13/18.

Fr. Charles McDonagh

Monsignor. Accused publicly in 1/19 by two sisters, who said McDonagh sexually abused them over 5 years beginning in 1972 when one was age 13 and the other age 7. The family were Our Lady of Refuge parishioners in the Bronx, where McDonagh was newly assigned. The abuse allegedly occurred in the girls' home when McDonagh would "bless" the girls in bed. McDonagh was later secretary to Cardinals Cooke and then O'Connor. The girls' mother reportedly told Rev. Benedict Groeschel of the abuse in the 1990s, to no avail. McDonagh died in 4/99. Groeschel said in 2012 that victims of abuse were seducers of priests. On archdiocese's list 4/26/19. Claims against McDonagh eligible for IRCP. Settlements announced for each of the two alleged victims in 7/19. One of the sisters said that a third, older sister, was also a target of McDonagh.

It notes an allegation reported in 1957 of sexual abuse of a minor in 1956, while assigned to Loyola High School in Los Angeles, CA. Dismissed in 1957. [May have been a Jesuit seminarian at the time.] On the Anchorage archdiocese's list 1/16/20, where he worked 1972-73. It notes sexual misconduct with a vulnerable adult in 1976. Per the Fairbanks diocese's list in 11/20, there were four reports of abuse.

Apparently abused a college student at least three times in 1975. Confessed in 2012 to molesting over 200 boys; 18 were dorm students at St. John's Prep. Supposedly was living as a "restricted" priest but he traveled frequently to the Bahamas until 2002. Named in new suit in 12/09. Name on list of monks likely to have offended against minors as released by Abbey 12/9/13. Died in 2/17.

A woman complained in 1993 about abuse by McDonald when she was 14. In 1994 a woman said she was abused by McDonald when she was age 10. He was removed from active ministry in 1994. Personnel file released in 2/03 contained allegations that he had abused several girls. He admitted abuse of 4-5 girls. Another woman complained in 1996 about abuse 1965-66; in 1997 McDonald wrote a letter of apology. The archdiocese did not give it to the woman until 2003. She settled for $35K. McDonald retired in 1996 and died in 1999; Cardinal Law officiated at his funeral. Name included on the 8/11 Boston archdiocese list of accused priests.

Per statement released by Diocese of Spokane in 11/07, McDonald was the subject of an accusation that was found to be credible or proven. He died 10/07/85. Most of his career was spent at Bellarmine Preparatory High School in Tacoma, WA. During the late 1940s through the 1950s he was assigned to St. Mary's Indian Mission in Omak, WA, which was part of the Spokane diocese. On the Jesuits West list 12/7/18. It notes claims in 2009 of abuse 1948-53, 1953-60 and 1959-65.

Fr. Michael McDonald

Ordained in Ireland. Incardinated in 1958 into the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno. In 2004 the Monterey diocese reached a settlement of more than $760K in a civil suit filed in summer 2003. A man alleged that he was sexually abused many times by McDonald at St. Mary of the Nativity in Salinas between 1964 and 1967, starting when he was 10. McDonald died 11/3/71. On the Monterey diocese's 1/2/19 list of credibly accused. Included in 2021 on the Fresno diocese's list.

Fr. Paul E. McDonald

Personnel file released in 12/02 contained allegations by several men who said they were abused as children by McDonald in the early to mid-1960s, at St Joseph's in Hyde Park. One said he was repeatedly molested by McDonald for five years, beginning when he was age 10, during outings to the Blue Hills. The abuse included oral rape. Another victim stated that McDonald befriended his family after a house fire killed two of the boy's brothers, and then molested him and his cousin over a period of two years. McDonald took a one-year leave of absence in 1976 and soon left the priesthood to marry. Accused of abuse of one boy in the 1960s in civil suit that settled in 2001. Voluntarily laicized in 2005. The Boston archdiocese list in 8/11 says case concluded canonically.

According to a 2002 news report, McDonough was sued in 1993 for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old student 20 years prior. Documents produced during the case show that McDonough had been accused of sexual abuse by others at the time and that school officials were going to quietly transfer him. Suit dismissed in 1995 due to SOL. Per a 1993 article, McDonough was no longer a member of the order. On the Jesuits Midwest Province list 12/17/18. It notes a single allegation of abuse, occurring in 1973 while assigned to Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls. Dismissed from the order in 1975.

Fr. Archibald M. McDowell

Taught at University of Portland 1949-59. Accused of molesting an 11-year-old boy in 1956. In 1958 the Provincial of the order wrote to McDowell noting two canonical warnings already on his record, one of which was for fondling two high school boys. Sued prior to 7/02 by a boy he allegedly molested in 1956. Archdiocese paid $10K in 2003 to settle one claim. Also taught in Austin, TX. On the order's list 6/12/19. It notes multiple allegations received1949-50s of abuse occurring in OR, IN, and LA. Permanently removed from ministry in 1962. Died 1994. On New Orleans' list in 6/19.

Died 11/14/87. Sued in 2005. Accused of abuse of at least five girls in the 1960s. Took nude pictures of at least one girl. Claims settled as part of a $5M settlement with the Archdiocese in 2006. At least one more claim included in $2.6M settlement with the Archdiocese in 3/07 and at least one more in an 8/13 $5.2M out-of-court settlement involving 10 priests and 26 victims.

In massive civil suit filed 10/01/03, 27 victims alleged abuse by 24 priests, including McElroy. One man claimed abused by McElroy 1954-55. McElroy was basketball coach; some abuse said to have occurred on sports trips. Per 10/03 article, whereabouts unknown. The 1993 and 2002 Catholic Directories show him as "Retired." Settlement 10/17 as part of the diocese's compensation fund. On diocese's list in 2/19. It notes that McElroy died 1/3/04.

Br. Shawn McEnany

Pleaded guilty in 1988 to unlawful sexual contact with a 15-year-old female student at a Lewiston ME High School. Received two one-year suspended sentences and one year probation. Hired in 1990 to work at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH. Order thought it was ok since it was a boys school and he abused a girl. Placed on leave in 1997; charged with violating a state law that bars sex offenders from working with children and for failing to register as a sex offender. Charges dropped in 1999. Moved to RI, became a social worker. Died in 2017. Named in Maine AG Report. Accused in a 5/18 lawsuit of sexually assaulting a girl at Bishop Guertin HS in NH in 1995. Hearing set for 9/21/20.

Fr. George B. McFadden

Accused of abusing more than 25 girls and boys. Denied allegations. Admitted to "harmful acts." Forced into treatment and retirement 1991-92 but continued to function as priest at cathedral. Faculties not removed until 2002. Lawsuits began to be filed in 2003; 29th lawsuit filed in 6/06 by two brothers. Many cases settled or dismissed. By 2008 39 people made claims. Three new plaintiffs as of 9/06. In 12/05 Vatican refused to laicize McFadden because of his age. Residing in Ft. Wayne IN. On diocese's 2/22/19 list of credibly accused.

Fr. Richard P. McGann

Per news in 3/11, the Hartford archdiocese had paid an undisclosed settlement in 2009 to a man who alleged sexual abuse by McGann 1975-77, beginning when man was age 12. The archdiocese said when confronted in 2011 that McGann was placed on administrative leave in 2005 without privileges. Archdiocese was still paying a stipend to McGann. Plaintiff in settlement was convicted in 1986 of killing his grandfather and was serving 60 years in a ME prison. McGann's name was included on the archdiocese's list 1/22/19. It notes that he had been sentenced by the Vatican 5/24/16 to a life of prayer and penance.

Fr. Joseph F. McGarvey

Lawsuit filed in 1993 by three people, one a priest, alleging abuse by McGarvey and William C. O'Connell in the 1960s when, plaintiffs were in their teens. Plaintiffs say they were abused 1/65 - 12/72 when McGarvey was pastor of St. Mary Magdalen in Millville. Suit settled in 10/93 for $384K. McGarvey was placed on leave in 1993; later permanently removed. On diocese's list 2/13/19. Died 1/28/10. Accused in a claim settled in 2020 in the high five figures of sexually abusing a boy, ages 5-6, in 1977-78, while assigned to St. Mary Magdalen in Millville. The boy was a student at the parish school.

Fr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr.

Headmaster of Bradford Central Christian High School in 1997 when suspended after a man filed suit alleging that McGee sexually abused him on at least three occasions 9/88-10/89 when he was a 14- to 17-year-old Bradford Central student. McGee denied the allegations, and the diocese claimed the charges were too old to pursue. The suit was dismissed due to the statute of limitations. McGee returned to active status. He was elevated to Monsignor before the suit's dismissal was announced. Name not included on the diocese's 4/6/18 list. PA authorities opened investigation in 8/18, after release of PA Grand Jury Report, which did not include McGee. Name added to Erie list 10/18. McGee's accuser again filed suit 8/11/20 alleged abuse 1987-90 by McGee and Fr. Michael Amy.

Fr. John J. McGeever

Brother of Mercy prior to ordination to priesthood. Assigned to parishes in Huntington, New Hyde Park, Mineola, and to St. Agnes Cathedral. Pastor of St. Joachim's in Cedarhurst when he died 1/21/93. In 2014 a man told the diocese McKeever sexually abused him, including sodomy, for two years starting in 1981 when he was a 10-year-old St. Agnes Cathedral altar boy. Another man alleged in 11/17 that McGeever sexually abused him beginning at age 14, 1983-93. McGeever reportedly paid the boy to do work around the church, asked him to help him shower so he wouldn't fall, and told the boy he would be sent to foster care if he told. Allegedly abused at parishes in Rockville Centre, Mineaola and Cedarhurst. McGeever died 11/21/93. Included on the diocese's list in 3/21.

Name included on the diocese's list released 8/1/18. Noted to be the subject of multiple allegations of sexual abuse of children. Worked in Harrisburg parishes until 1970. Professor of psychology and education at Marymount College of VA and professor of psychology and statistics at Georgetown University. Retired in 1987, lived in Central PA. Died 8/12/06. Included in the PA Grand Jury Report released 8/14/18.

Fr. Malachy M. McGinn

Monsignor. Member of the Salesian order in Ireland prior to ordination. Ordained in Ireland for the San Diego diocese. Name appears on list of priests with credible allegations released by the San Diego Diocese 3/30/07. Also worked in the San Bernardino diocese. Accused in 1993 of a sexual relationship with a 21-year-old female at Our Lady of Solitude in Palm Springs in 1968, per personnel file released 10/24/10. Died in 12/97. On San Bernardino's list 10/9/18 of those credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It notes that the diocese was aware in 2002 of alleged abuse in 1969 and 1981.

Br. K. Paul McGlade

From Australia. Per news in 11/18, McGlade was named in lawsuits filed by 24 men claiming they were sexually assaulted as 11- to 15-year-old residents of the Academy at Mount Saint John for at risk children in Deep River CT, 1986-96. McGlade was a teacher at the school and executive director from 1990. McGlade was reportedly accused in most of the suits of sexual abuse, including masturbation, forced oral sex and sodomy. The suits also say that complaints of McGlade sexually abusing children were made to the diocese but disregarded. McGlade died in 2013. As of 12/20 there were 35 lawsuits alleging abuse by McGlade. A plaintiffs' attorney stated that another was to be filed and that over 50 plaintiffs were expected. Also accused of abuse of boys prior his to arrival in CT.

Accused of abuse of a minor in 1963, per archdiocesan report. Claims in a civil suit of abuse at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena when he was an instructor. Dispensed from Perpetual vows 4/11/70. Working in HI at the time. Married, raised a family, continued as an educator. Died 6/13/13. Personnel files released by Order in 7/13 do not actually specify child abuse, but they do admit that celibacy had always been an issue for him. Included in 11/21 on the Marianists list of "members found to have sexually abused a minor."


Fr. Francis E. McGlynn

Diocese: Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph MO

Retired in 1992; privileges removed 2002. Sued 2003. Plaintiff claimed McGlynn sexually abused him in 1971 and 1974 while Plaintiff was an altar boy at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Trial set for 10/07 but case settled 9/27/07 for $225K. Two women also filed separate suits in 2003 and 2004. The 2003 suit dismissed on SOL in 12/04. At least one claim settled in an 8/08 $10M settlement involving 12 priests. New suit filed by a woman 10/11 claimed abuse in 1963-64. McGlynn died in 5/12. Plaintiff dropped name from suit -- diocese still in. Included on the diocese's 9/5/19 list of accused clergy, with multiple substantiated allegations.

Fr. Albert McGoldrick

Accusation in 2002 to that McGoldrick and two other priests abused a boy 1979-83, starting when the boy was 15. The accuser met with the bishop; all three priests soon resigned from their parish assignments and were placed on leave. Claim(s) settled by diocese in 10/03 as part of massive $21M settlement with 40 people claiming abuse by 16 priests. No known assignments 1989-94. Later worked for Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy. Laicized 2005.

Fr. James McGonegal

Named publicly as credibly accused of child sexual abuse by the diocese on its list 6/21/19. Noted to be on administrative leave pending the Vatican's decision regarding laicization. Per the list in 2022, McGonegal was laicized. In 2014 McGonegal pleaded guilty to soliciting sex from a Cleveland park ranger - a felony because he was HIV positive. In a plea agreement he was to participate in a yearlong intervention program and to serve 50 hours of community service. He was also ordered to stay out of Cleveland's Metroparks.
